Chapter 1 Betrayal

Vivian's POV

The moment I dropped my pen on the desk and stretched my arms, a satisfying feeling overwhelmed me. The last exams of my final year are finally over and I can leave this boring room. College was done. I've somehow managed to get through all the reading of uninteresting topics in criminal justice.

I leaned back in my seat, my eyes sweeping through the hall as the students walked out of the hall, chatting excitedly but it was the least of my business. I just wanted to have a nice time with my boyfriend and am considering returning to Italy after today.

I walked out of the hall into the evening breeze in excitement. Pulling out my phone, I wanted to call Ryan, my boyfriend to meet me for a celebratory date. "Weird," he wasn't picking up and there was no way he wouldn't.

No matter how busy Ryan was, he always answered my calls and put me first. That was one of the reasons it's fell in love with him. Shrugging it off, I placed my phone in my pocket, heading straight for his apartment.

New York was always busy, but it didn't stop me from getting to his apartment on time. Although it would be impossible for me to stay her win New York for a long time before I get dragged back to Italy to handle the duties expected of me, I wanted to have a good time with him.

Growing up in the kind of environment I did, my family's ideals were always forced down on me. I have been trained to take over the family one day. Whoever thinks a girl born into a mafia family is lucky must live my life to regret ever thinking that. Coming to New York has been the most refreshing thing I've ever done in a while.

Walking down the corridor leading to his room, I reached out top open the door but it was strangely unlocked. A frown settled on my face as I slipped through the door. "Ry–" my words got stuck in my mouth when my eyes caught a pair of black heels.

There was only one person I know who had those heels was none other than Mia, my very own friend. But what was she doing here with Ryan?

"She should be introducing me to her family very soon and you know, she's more of a wife material." I heard Ryan's voice coming from the room and I froze in place to listen.

"Are you trying to say you don't want me as your wife, Ryan. I can do much better than she would. I'm already doing much better than her in bed." Mia's voice followed hu, clearing up my suspicion.

"Why would you sit home, do nothing and just be the wife of the top guy in Black family? I want you to live your life while she–"

I didn't bother listening to the rest of the conversation and just slipped out of the apartment. My boyfriend and best friend were having an affair and they thought she wouldn't know about it.

As she stepped out of the apartment, her phone buzzed. Pulling it out, she could see it was Ryan's call. "Where are you, babe? Are you finally done?"

"Yes." I replied, walking towards the opposite apartment and heading into the building. "I am leaving for Italy tonight."

"What?" he said in shock. "I thought you said you won't be leaving till we get engaged next month."

"Change of plans, Ryan." I said, setting my phone aside as I got to the rooftop of the apartment. There was a black huge box there and I lifted it effortlessly before setting it down before me.

"What do you mean by change of plans? Did something happen babe? Are you being forced to go back home by your father?" He asked with concern in his voice. It wasn't like he was going to do something even if father came over to New York to drag me back home.

"Let's break up, Ryan." I said as calmly as ever while assembling the sniper in the box. "It won't work out for the two of us anymore since you have to focus on your job in the mafia from now on. I think it's time I returned home also."

"You can't do this, Vivian. We can stay together even though you're far away. Or did I do something to offend you?" he asked and from the sniper, I could see him seated on the bed with Mia behind him. Oh how perfect they looked.

I should have known from the beginning that in the end, no one in the Bellini family could actually have the kind of love I had. My father won't even agree to it in the first place. I still had a lot of things to do before getting engaged or married. They might not know who I am here in New York, but I am Vivian Bellini, the only daughter of the Bellini family and the underboss of our mafia operation.

"Let's break up, Ryan. And I never want to see your face again. You can spend the rest of your life with Mia if you please." I said, nonchalantly.

In that instant I pulled the trigger, aiming straight for Mia and it didn't miss. I never missed. Without turning back, I hung up and left the place swiftly, heading back for my apartment. Maybe he did all of this just to remind me who I was, I was meant to be in Italy, not some crappy place like this.

The sun was barely up when I dragged my stuff out of my apartment, down towards the waiting car. I paused in my tracks when I saw Ryan standing there at the end of the stairs, seeming to be waiting for me.

"What do you want?" I asked him, not bothering to look in his direction as I tried to walk past him but he grabbed my arm, turning me to look at him.

"Look me in the eyes and tell me what you said yesterday about wanting to break up." He said coldly and I wanted to laugh. Was he trying to scare me or what? It was a funny sight but I couldn't let my identity slip after keeping it for the past four years.

"I asked you to spend the rest of your days with Mia. You thought I didn't know?" Of course, I didn't know, I just realized it. It didn't take a toll on me emotionally that much since I had been taught how to put my emotions away and get rid of those standing in my way.

"Are you jealous? This is unlike you, Vivian. And besides, the enemies know about her already so it would be difficult continuing with her. Someone shot her yesterday and we've been investigating but no lead." He rambled and I just stared at him. Does that mean if his enemies caught a whiff of me too, he wouldn't mind dumping me? What a loser.

"I'm leaving for home and I never want to see your face again Ryan." I said walking away but once again he stood in my way. Irritation crept all over me and I just wanted to hit him in the face but I kept my cool.

"Even if you leave for Italy, Vivian, I swear I'll get you back and you'll stay by my side. You just wait and see."

"And if you ever get in my way or line of sight, Ryan Malone, I won't hesitate to shoot you to the ground, ending your life right there."

I turned to leave him and I could tell he was speechless. I didn't care, right now, I had other business to deal with in Italy.
