Chapter 1 Unlike Sides Attracts

Jiggle club room, 8:30am

TINA

I stretched my tired bones and yawned tiredly on the comfy bed. The sunlight reared its head through the half-opened window and I squinted my eyes to obstruct the rays. I made to stand up and felt a sharp pain below my tummy and also on my head.

"Crazy hangover" I muttered in pain.

"This is not my room" I mumbled in realization and jerked up on the bed.

It was when I sat up that I noticed the man beside me, sleeping soundly like a baby. He has broad shoulders, and bulky arms and his six packs were sultry. His face was like a flawless sculpture made by God himself on His off day. This man is a Demigod and If perfection is to be human, he'd surely be one.

"He looks so handsome" I screamed mentally.

"Shut up. Is that what you're supposed to be thinking about?" My subconscious yelled at me.

I pulled the blanket and realized I was naked. A bell rang in my head immediately. "What just. . happened?" I found myself stuttering uncontrollably. "Ahhhh" I screamed when the realization dawned on me.

"You're a whore anyway" My subconscious mocked.

"Shut the hell up" I yelled while grabbing my head that was banging.

"Who are you?" The man beside me asked suddenly.

I flinched in fear. I didn't realize he had woken up and was staring at me.

"Who are you to ask me who I am?" I fired back at him. Tears were already clouding my sight.

I held my head in my hands and managed to stand up and started wearing my gown.

He stared at me endlessly without saying anything.

"He's stunned" I reasoned.

"Who are you? What's your name?" He asked again.

"I thought I was quite popular. I was your muse for the night" I whispered into his ear courageously.

"You don't get to talk to me like that" His voice sent chills down my spine. He sounded like those Mafia bosses that I do watch in movies and write in my stories. My heart further jumped into my mouth when I realized he could be a Mafia boss for all I thought.

"Please, I want to leave" My voice came out in a tiny pleading and vulnerable tone. He creased his brows and stared at me in confusion. He was probably wondering where all that feisty attitude went.

"Answer my question" He bellowed which shook my insides.

"I am . . ." I was talking when his phone rang. He grabbed it harshly and placed it on his ear. Discreetly, I grabbed my panties which were lying carelessly on the floor and squeezed them into my bag. I packed my high-heeled shoes and stormed out of the room.

"Why" that was all I could chant in my head gloomily.

I wiped the stubborn tears that got its way out of my eyes.

"How did I end up in bed with someone I don't even know? Can my life get any worse?"

My phone rang and I ransacked my bag to get it out.

"Brenda" I muttered as I saw the caller.

I picked up the call and I immediately got the phone out of my ear.

"Tina, where are you?" She yelled like she would always do.

"Please, stop shouting. I'm on my way" I said slowly.

I don't have the energy to banter right now. The call ended and I flagged down a taxi, heading to my bungalow, my house, my sweet comfort zone.

"Gosh," I muttered dejectedly and the tears I've been trying to keep at bay came down in torrents as the driver sped off.

.........................

"Boss" Brad was running after Jake in a hurry.

He was trying to keep up with his pace. Jake's brow was furrowed. His arms stood fixated by his side as he took a bossy stride towards the R&B's club parking lot. The tattoo of an eagle on his bulky right arm glistened and shone beautifully and his tie dangled helplessly in his hand.

"Get into the car and drive" He ordered sternly.

Brad entered the driver's seat quickly. Jake also entered the back seat stiffly and rested his head backward.

"Who is she?" He asked vaguely.

"Who is who, boss?" Brad was confused.

"The lady that was with me last night" He snapped impatiently.

"Oh... I looked into her and she's a popular stripper in the club" Brad explained.

"A stripper?" Jake repeated as if unsure of the word.

"What's her name?" He asked again.

"I don't know yet but she has been working as a stripper for approximately six years now. She has no family record whatsoever but she has a friend who sometimes follows her to the club" Brad recounted.

Jake nodded slowly and looked out of the window seeming to be deep in thought. "How did you know all these when you don't even know her name?" He scoffed and looked out the window.

"It is based on popular opinion sir" Brad noted apologetically and looked in the rearview mirror.

"I want real facts, Brad" Jake said sternly.

"Yes boss. I will work on it"

"And where were you last night?" Jake queried.

Brad gulped down his saliva and his Adam's apple moved wearingly. He gripped the steering too hard and concentrated on the road as he drove.

"I got a call, boss" He explained in a guilty tone.

"This your little girlfriend better be worth your time" Jake blurted.

"I don't have a girlfriend boss" Brad squirmed embarrassingly.

Jake didn't respond and the silence in the car was longing for a break. Brad looked into the rearview mirror intermittently while driving, not like he could read his ever-serious facial expression. Jake's phone rang.

"Boss, your phone" Brad pointed out.

"Put the phone on flight mode," He said simply and dabbed his eyes with his palm.

"Boss, I have deleted and destroyed the CCTV footage and I made sure that there is no copy elsewhere" Brad relayed.

"Good" Jake muttered under his breath.

"To Tee's office"

"When," Brad asked.

"Now" Jake thundered.

Soon, Brad drove into the hospital parking lot. He had barely parked well when Jake got out of the car and rushed into the building.

"Jake, my man" A man hailed when he sighted him.

He is wearing a medical shrub and walking towards Jake in the hospital corridor. He was smiling wildly, the kind of smile that will heal a patient right on a hospital bed or deliver bad news with ease. The badge on his shrub read "Dr. Tee". He is Jake's family doctor and his friend too.

"Tee, we need to talk," Jake said with urgency.

"Okay! Let's talk in my office" He responded and led the way to his office. They entered his suite-like office and Jake walked towards the couch and plopped on it.

"Coffee?" Tee offered.

"Yes," Jake replied in the affirmative.

Tee brewed the coffee and served it in two coffee cups. He took one and gave the other to Jake and sat opposite him.

"Thanks" Jake muttered and gulped the coffee in a go and slammed the cup on the glass table.

Tee watched him with keen interest but said nothing. For a moment, no one said anything until Tee spoke.

"Man, I have patients to attend to. What's the matter?" Tee inquired.

"I had sex" Jake blurted.

The silence stretched longer as Jake and Tee stared at each other with an expressionless face.

"You did what?" Tee asked to be sure he heard right.

"I said I had sex," Jake said louder this time.

"That sounds cringe coming from you. Am I like your go-to report man?" Tee made a disgusting face.

"Gosh, can you be professional for once? Why did I make you my doctor?" Jake squirmed uneasily on his seat.

"Okay okay. Let's be serious now. You had sex, okay? What am I supposed to do? Pop a champagne?" Tee laughed hysterically and reached out to hit him on the shoulder jokingly.

"I penetrated. I mean the real sex. Gosh, how do I explain this? Why are you laughing? What's funny?" Jake face palmed himself in frustration.

"No way" Tee yelled as realization dawned on him.

"How the hell did that happen? There was no improvement when you came for a test two days ago. Are you sure you're not imagining things? It might be hallucination, it happens sometimes in this type of situation if you're thinking about it too much and..." Tee trailed off and was cut short by Jake.

"I'm as surprised as you are. Did the new medicine you recommended work already?" Jake clasped his hands in earnest as different thoughts crossed his mind in a go.

"That medicine is not supposed to work till the next three months. That is if it is even going to work. Your erectile dysfunction condition has not been heard nor seen in the entire field of medicine. No medical cause or cure" Tee relayed.

"Is this a miracle beyond science?" Tee wondered aloud. Jake bowed his head and sighed. His head was all messed up. He was happy and sad. Happy that he's finally cured of his ailment and sad that it might just be a spur of the moment or even a teasing dream.

"We will have to carry out another test to check the situation but I'm happy for you man" Tee shook his shoulder and stood up.

"By the way, Who is the lucky chick you lost your innocence to?" Tee questioned.

"Stop it" Jake glared at him.

"Fine. I concur that you're not innocent but you know what I mean" Tee raised his hands mockingly. "But who is she though?"

"A stripper" Jake murmured.

"Holy shit" Tee exclaimed in exasperation.

I had been a wife for exactly six hours when I woke up to the sound of my husband’s heavy breathing. In the dim moonlight of our bridal suite, I watched Hardin, the man I had adored for years, intertwined with my sister Carissa on the chaise lounge. The betrayal didn't come with an apology. Hardin stood up, unashamed, and sneered at me. "You're awake? Get out, you frumpy mute." Carissa huddled under a throw, her fake tears already welling up as she played the victim. They didn't just want me gone; they wanted me erased to protect their reputations. When I refused to move, my world collapsed. My father didn't offer a shoulder to cry on; he threatened to have me committed to a mental asylum to save his business merger. "You're a disgrace," he bellowed, while the guards stood ready to drag me away. They had spent my life treating me like a stuttering, submissive pawn, and now they were done with me. I felt a blinding pain in my skull, a fracture that should have broken me. But instead of tears, something dormant and lethal flickered to life. The terrified girl who walked down the aisle earlier that day simply ceased to exist. In her place, a clinical system—the Valkyrie Protocol—booted up. My racing heart plummeted to a steady sixty beats per minute. I didn't scream. I stood up, my spine straightening for the first time in twenty years, and looked at Hardin with the detachment of a surgeon looking at a tumor. "Correction," I said, my voice stripped of its stutter. "You're in my light." By dawn, I had drained my father's accounts, vanished into a storm, and found a bleeding Crown Prince in a hidden safehouse. They thought they had broken a mute girl. They didn't realize they had just activated their own destruction.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."
