Chapter 1 Mia*s POV

MIA

"Can you not interrupt me while I'm filming?" Matilda yelled at me.

I moved away quickly from where she stood and made my way to another corner before she reported me to my parents. She was always the golden child, so it's obvious that they'd do whatever she wanted.

She continued filming with her friends while I just stood there, watching her live my dream. She had lots of followers and was the popular one even though we were twins.

We were nineteen years of age but yet she got her wolf before me. She was like the prettier and better version of me, it was like looking at myself in the mirror watching what I would never become.

"Mia, can you help me hold the lightning stand? It's not bright enough," she told me.

I scoffed, "Do it yourself, or better still get one of your friends to do it," I told her.

She looked at me with bloodshot in her eyes. "Are you talking back to me? Do you want me to report to Mom and Dad because I can assure you that the consequences would be bad," she threatened.

I gulped down my saliva and went to do as I was told. My hands were aching and I wanted to give up so badly but I knew the consequences of not abiding by her rules.

"I can't believe my face looks horrible, the party is tonight and if I don't look great then I'm done for," Matilda whined.

"You don't have to worry much Matilda. You mentioned that Kael was your mate so you don't have to worry about anything since you're the one he's choosing," her friend said.

I noticed the expression on her face. I could tell there and then what a big fat liar she was. She only needed more popularity to her name and decided to go this far.

How ridiculous!

"How did you even know that he's your mate? Hasn't he been out of the pack for years now? I doubt if you've ever seen him before," I said.

She gave me a look of despair and all of her friends looked at her with a questioning look. "That's right but I can tell that he's my mate because there's no way he'd settle with a low class and I'm the most popular so we're meant to be."

How delusional she can be and I thought that she's supposed to be the smart and pretty one but I'm guessing that she's just beauty with no brains.

"We have to get new dresses!" They squealed.

They were very annoying and the fact that they almost caused my ears to bleed. They didn't even care about the light stand I was holding and just shoved me aside so they could make their way past me.

The house was already so messy but they didn't have to worry about the mess they made since I'm around to clean it up for them. Taking a deep breath, I grabbed the cleaning materials from the store and started cleaning.

Could my life get any more pathetic?

"You look cute, honey!" Mom complimented Matilda.

She didn't bother showing any concerns and I just stood there, waiting for them to get over with their drama. I was already done dressing up like half an hour ago but Matilda needs to take her time as usual.

"Can you be fast? We don't have all day, Matilda!" I whined.

Mom looked at me with a scornful expression. "You know she has to look pretty," she scowled at me. "I gave birth to two girls but only one proved to be useful so you have no right to complain."

My heart sank after hearing her statement. I was sure that I was going to cry but the last thing I wanted was having to cry in front of them. That would be so embarrassing and give them another reason to mock me.

"I'd wait in the car."

They didn't bother looking at me and I walked out, making my way towards the car, getting lost in my thoughts eventually.

It took almost another thirty minutes before they arrived at the car. "Can you go to the back?" Mom asked.

I looked at her, confused by her statement. "But it's my turn to sit at the front today. Matilda's had her turn last week," I cried.

"Yes, but she wants to sit here today. It's such an auspicious day today, don't tell me you want to deny your sister of her happiness. Aren't you the eldest?"

"Just two minutes."

"Go to the back, Mia," Dad calmly said.

I couldn't believe that they were both throwing me under the boss. Out of anger, I got out slamming the door loudly, and made my way to the back with mom slouching in anger as I watched the three of them discuss and as usual, I was left out of the conversation.

We arrived at the pack house, where the party was being held. It's a welcome party for alpha Kael as he rounds down the throne. He's been gone for so many years and I can't even remember what he looks like because the last time I saw him he was still a teenager and that was when his father held his birthday party in the palace.

I tried envisioning what he would look like but no matter how hard I tried, the vision looked very blurry. But rumors have it, that he's a stone-cold hottie. I wasn't much into guys but part of me was curious to see what he looked like now.

We entered the main hall and my parents went to meet a few others while Matilda parted to go meet with her friends. I sat in a corner, watching the dancers as some form of entertainment.

It got so bad that I started thinking of myself back at home, just binge-watching through the series. I wasn't much of an extrovert anyway.

The MC of the event arrived at the podium disrupting the event. He got a hold of the mic. "I apologize for the disruption but Alpha Kael is running a bit late and might not be here in time so till then enjoy the rest of the event."

My blood boiled at the fact that it only meant I would have to be here longer. I couldn't take it anymore, I couldn't be here for another minute.

I realized that the event was going nowhere, grabbed my bag, and left the area. I was almost at the door when I collided with someone familiar and the smell of his cologne hit my nostrils.

"Fuck!" He cursed.

I looked up at him, realizing that he was very handsome, his black hair styled perfectly and face with that well-structured jaw sent me flying. My breath hitched and I gulped down a large sum of my saliva before I lost it.

"Can you watch where you're going?" He scolded me, looking into my eyes.

For a moment, it was almost as if time stopped and it was just the both of us. I stared at him for an amount of time and my wolf kicked in, making it hard for me to concentrate.

"Mate!" Moriah– My wolf yelled.

I looked at the man awestruck by what had just occurred and I was aching to touch his face, just to know how that perfectly structured jaw felt in my hands. I could tell that he felt something too, maybe it was the mate bond.

I reached out to touch his face but he angrily grabbed it. "Know your limits."

He flung it away and walked past me before I could even complete a sentence. I was still surprised by what had just occurred and for a while the moment replayed in my head.

Why would he do that? He was so rude to me? Was he going to reject me?

"Mia!" I heard Matilda's voice from behind.

She walked over to me, grabbing me by the hand. "Don't tell me you're leaving. I just heard that Kael is around and I need you to stay to watch him claim me."

Her delusion was going to be the end of her. "And why do I need to stay?"

She scoffed and dragged me back to the party. I angrily sat down, watching as the Mc called out his name. Everyone clapped including me and as soon as he stepped on the podium, I knew I was done for.

Matilda started screaming like crazy while I was trying to comprehend the situation on the ground.

"Isn't he so hot?" She giggled.

He didn't smile, rather he maintained a stern expression while waving his hands. His eyes met with mine but he moved his gaze away before I could even smile at him.

"Mate!" Moriah yelled again, and I had to take deep breaths to control the emotions spinning up in me

It was him! Alpha Kael was my mate?!
