It was about Jane's ambition. To build a united home together with her ex for the sake of the child they had together. This was despite being married and a CEO.
"It started from you" Jane blamed her mum.
"Are you mad?" Retorted her mum with a devastating look at her.
She vomits nonsense, and each time she vomited the nonsense, she dashed her one invective. " At your age,27, was it your father that would have told you to open legs or close legs?"
Jane's excuse for having a child outside wedlock had been that she had no father who would have disciplined her. Sometimes she extended the blame to hereditary because her mum had no father like her.
She left her mum in the parlor to think about her life, where she is heading to with a baby who has no father. Like a mother like a child?
What was she going to think that she had never thought?
Sometime ago,she had thought of tendering her resignation from her office but her friends discouraged her.
Take pride in single motherhood? As she was advised.
It was not in her dream to be a single mother. After her mother gave birth to her without a husband?
When she gave birth to her, she tried all her best possible to find the Dutch but failed. Her mum did not like her single motherhood and did not wish her only daughter the same.
How did not useless relationship start?
It was five years ago, she met with a cute guy by the name John and they killed themselves with love like there was no tomorrow.
No father to ask her where she had been until she was pregnant.
After giving birth to a bouncing baby boy, she searched for John. Perhaps,he may come back to claim ownership of the child, being a boy. John was no where to be found.
With the aggravation from her mum still ranking in her,she left to see Selena.
They were both bankers of the Arab bank.
It was a Thursday, Selena had given her boyfriend an invitation.
She twirled in front of the mirror in her cozy two-bedroom apartment in County A, excited that John would be visiting.
She had just dropped the phone after speaking with him, and the good news had her dancing.
"What is that?" Jane inquired, referring to the reason for the show of happiness ā extreme happiness based on Selena's actions.
"My guy's coming," Selena revealed, and she shivered at the thought.
"When?" asked Jane.
"This Friday," she told her.
"For a weekend?" Jane inquired further.
"Of course!" Selena was surprised at her question. How could she not spend the weekend with her fiancƩ?
"You just met a man," Jane tried to warn her, "and he is coming to stay?"
"What's the worry? Don't I have a spare room?" Selena asked, implying that she and her boyfriend would spend the weekend together.
"What I mean is that it is too early to allow him to come here and stay for so long, from Friday until Monday," explained Jane.
Selena had sat down opposite her to explain things. "This will not be our first time together. Okay?"
"So, you guys have been going out? Maybe that is why you are shivering."
"When you see him, the cutest, you too will shiver. Besides," She said and gestured that she is of age and cannot wait any more. "I can't miss him for anything, seriously."
Selena with a degree in Banking and Finance, and 27-years-old too, marriage had been weighing her down. When would my own wedding be loading?
Since she fell in love with John, it was a prayer answered. Nothing on earth could make her lose John.
Jane left to be back on Friday. She has no tinge of envy that her friend is going out with a cute or the cutest guy. She had seen a cute guy once in her life and dreamed of building a perfect home with him; a nuclear home of three or four, filled with peace but got her finger burnt in their relationship.
She shook her head. Is there a way to rewind the hand of time? To start life afresh, without a pregnancy outside wedlock, with a man who will accomplish her dream?
The next day, at 7 am, Selena called, "Are you coming?"
"Yes, of course," she agreed, and sat in front of her own vanity table, applying her beauty regimen. Before, she did not need cosmetics. Everybody called her angel and the useless John called her Angel from above. He was the reason she spends time before the mirror. A painful relationship can really disfigure face. She drove off to County A.
Selena had been barking on the phone. John had arrived already, and they were waiting for her to come so that the trio could go out together.
Either because of that she gassed her car the most. A car crossed the road as if two devils were driving it, and her tires screeched, causing the Toyota Primera to somersault and crashed into a pole, which was her savior. A nurse picked her call. The phone had been ringing like a creditor's phone call for the past twenty hours.
The caller said she was Selena. The nurse who answered the call told Selena that the owner of the phone was brought to their hospital by good Samaritans.
"Where?" Selena, confused, ran into John's Prado, and both of them drove off.
* Complicated.
The Prado entered the hospital. Selena and John followed a nurse into an emergency room.
Jane, who had lost consciousness, was receiving a drip and still asleep.
"No. Hold on, please," the nurse stopped Selena from turning Jane's face. She was stitched on her temple.
"Can I see the doctor then?" Selena asked.
"Yes," the nurse led her out. Jane and John were alone in the hospital room.
"Jane?"
John, doubting his eyes, lifted from his seat silently. He craned his neck, and Jane turned her face at that moment.
That her jaw dropped, that was natural.Whom she saw pierced her heart, and her heart, beat and beat, reached a crescendo.
She was thumping visibly on the narrow bed, eyes closed like she was drowning into a deep sea.
Selena, who walked in, ran for the doctor. The doctor, the nurse, dashed in.
"Jane! Jane!"
Her breathing was irregular, her body, as hot as a car hood after running five miles
"Why the sudden deterioration!?" Both the doctor and nurse exchanged surprised glances.
She gulped her medicine without looking either way, eyelids firmly locked, fingers gripping the blanket she laid back.
"No way. No way" She tried to subdue the challenge in her.
"Jane, it's okay. We are going to my house when you are discharged," Selena spoke to calm her down, noticing her irregular breathing.
Her lips were still pressed together, and her head nodding incessantly.
In the evening, about to leave the hospital, "Enter the car, Jane." She told herself, "It won't be!" She shook her head at her fear. At her fear? Yes!
After many years in search of John? Now, with Selena?
" No no no. The marriage can't hold. John must come back."
"Jane, enter the car nah." Selena who saw her inner wrangling urged her. John at the steering wheel knew what was happening to Jane. He boned. Soldier go soldier come.
When Jane revealed she was pregnant for him, he was twenty-two and not yet ready to settle down.
Now, he has got a fiancƩe. It was a coincidence that Selena knew Jane. But what would he do?
He drove off as Jane entered the car. John and Selena getting married? "Never!"
