A Deal Too Deep: My Stand-In Romance With Aloof CEO Chapter 1 Clayton, I've Decided

In the dimly lit hotel room, twilight seeped through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a soft glow over Yvonne Lawson. The room, swathed in silence, hummed quietly with the sound of heavy, eager breathing.

Yvonne's arm encircled Clayton Gibson's neck, her teeth catching his lower lip in a playful nip as her hand roamed boldly across his form, eventually tugging at his bathrobe belt.

"You've given in to me," Yvonne murmured, a teasing smile playing on her lips, edges curling with seduction. With a fluid motion, she stripped away the last barrier of cloth between them.

Clayton pressed Yvonne against the glass, his breath warm against her skin, his voice rough with barely contained desire.

He cautioned in a low growl, "Yvonne, consider the consequences." His hand braced against the window, the other lifting her leg, his words tinged with warning and allure. "Once we cross this line, there's no turning back for you and Louis."

"I'm aware," Yvonne responded, her gaze fixed on his midsection, her arms tightening around his solid waist, pulling him nearer. "Clayton, I've decided. I'm ready for what comes next."

When Yvonne discovered her boyfriend, Louis Gibson, in an affair with none other than her own sister, she reached a crossroads. She could have retreated to her room, numbed the pain with alcohol, and wept into her pillow. Instead, she chose a path of retribution.

She selected her next move with precision. Clayton, a single, six-foot-two man in the prime of his life at twenty-eight, was her chosen instrument. His physical strength was undeniable, but more crucial was his social standing.

Why wouldn't she ensnare Clayton, given Louis's audacious betrayal? An eye for an eye-it seemed only just.

Clayton's eyes, stormy with emotion, met hers. His gaze carried an edge of irony. "Let's not pretend here. You're using me to strike back at Louis, aren't you?" His voice was tinged with scoff. "Is that it? Willing to grab whatever chance you get for revenge? What do you take me for?"

Yvonne, once poised to be Louis's bride, now stood before him, Louis's uncle, a plan of vengeance weaving its threads around her former love. Had Louis remained faithful, their wedding would have been merely a month away.

Yvonne's expertly polished nails grazed Clayton's chest, descending to his taut abdomen and finally encircling his arousal.

"You can't hide your feelings, can you?" Yvonne's voice was a murmur of provocation as her fingers lingered. "This is nothing more than a fling fueled by our mutual longing. If you truly didn't want this, you wouldn't be here, secluded with me."

As she pressed her lips to his chest, her tongue lightly traced his muscles. "If you wish to stop me, do it now. I'm well sought after in town-there are plenty who would gladly take your place."

In her eyes, Clayton was not her only choice.

Her motive for tempting him was straightforward. She intended to use him.

And Clayton? Had he initially come here with pure intentions? It was unlikely he planned to persuade her to abandon her plans for revenge tonight.

Overwhelmed by desire, Clayton pulled Yvonne close, tightening his embrace as his breath quickened. He tilted her face up to his and kissed her passionately, her lipstick blurring under his pressure.

With a sly smile and eyes full of heat, he murmured, "Who would've thought that Yvonne Lawson of the esteemed Lawson family would reveal such daring once her clothes slipped off."

She possessed a boldness that could indeed make Clayton question his sanity.

His first encounter with her had been at a meticulously organized family gathering. She had appeared demure and compliant, the very model whom elder family members would admire.

Yet, who could have predicted that such a docile woman would not weep or throw a fit upon discovering her boyfriend's unfaithfulness? Instead, she chose to silently depart and later, on the night of her sister's engagement party to Louis, invite Clayton to a hotel room.

She loosened his tie, peeled off his shirt, and surrendered to the visceral desires against the backdrop of expansive windows.

Clayton gripped Yvonne's slender waist, his voice low and searching. "Yvonne, is this seduction merely a ploy to spite Louis, or is there another motive behind it?"

"I..." Yvonne started to reply, but Clayton's firm grip on her waist tightened.

He pressed closer, his look intense and his tone laden with warning. "Consider your next words carefully."

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.
