Not only that, Klein discovers that he's the phoneix healer and a great medical personnel. As he rises from ashes, Klein must confront the darkness of his past and the treacherous landscape of wealth and medicine. Will he find redemption or will the weight of his new found power consume him?
"Hahaha! Where's he hurrying off to? No doubt, another of your part time jobs, isn't that, Klein?" Alice sneered as soon as she saw him. Alice was his girlfriend's close friend. She despised nothing like she did Klein. He was a poor college student who managed to remain in school because he had access to student loans.
Klein looked up and his eyes met hers. He knew better than to stare at her or respond.
"I'm sorry, but I should go now," he said and made to leave. He was almost late for his evening shift.
"Yuck! What's that stench? Look how much you stink!! I wonder what Lara is still doing with you! Gosh!"
Alice had never supported Klein's relationship with her friend. She was way out of his league! She was beautiful and there were a lot of second generation rich young masters who wanted to be with her. To the best of her knowledge, Klein didn't deserve Lara. He was for the gutters while she was a queen. The difference in status was very clear.
"Alice, I.."
"Don't you dare. Never you mention my name. I don't want my name coming out of those gutters you call mouth. Well, I'm only here to inform you that your name will be removed from those eligible for the student loan if you don't pay off the ten percent debt left before the week runs out. You have four days to do that. I don't want to hear any stories whatsoever." Having said what she had in mind, she walked off, leaving Klein to himself.
Alice was in charge of student welfare and student loans.
By the time Klein got to the restaurant where he worked, his boss was at the entrance, fuming. Klein knew immediately that he was in trouble.
"You idiot! I see that you are tired of your job here. How dare you come late again!" he screamed and landed a slap on Klein's face.
"I'm sorry sir..." Klein began. He was only two minutes late, but his boss was yelling already.
"I should have fired you long ago. We have important guests today and you dare to show up late. Get to work right now, useless thing."
Such was the life of Klein Edward. He was a poor college student who struggled to make ends meet. His girlfriend, Lara was the campus belle and she was very materialistic. A lot of people were surprised when she chose Klein to be her boyfriend. He was very happy and did his best to treat her well. He did a lot of part time jobs to pay his school fees and buy her expensive gifts. Klein was willing to go hungry just to save his money to get an expensive bracelet which Lara admired. That was how much he loved her.
He changed into his work uniform and set off to arrange a VIP table. A rich and important guest had booked a table in the VIP section of the hotel, and his boss had specifically chosen him to take care of that.
"Be very fast, will you?" his boss ordered with a frown on his face. He had no patience for his subordinates and Klein was always a victim, no matter how well he behaved.
Today however, Klein bore the troubles with an unusually happy heart. That day was payday and coincidentally his girlfriend's birthday. He couldn't wait to get his salary so that he would rush off to spend every cent on a gift for her. He had debts to offset but a birthday gift for Lara was more important than anything.
Some minutes later, the customers arrived and Klein hurried to meet them. He was carrying a tray of food which they had already ordered.
"Good evening sir and ma'am. You are welcome to our...." Klein's words died in his mouth as he saw the face of the young lady.
It was his girlfriend, Lara! No, his eyes had better be playing tricks on him. Lara clung affectionately to her partner, who was a wealthy and popular heir from their school, Rex. His father was the CEO of a multi million company and he was the heir.
"Lara?" he called softly. He needed to be sure he wasn't seeing things. Lara didn't flinch, instead, she leaned in closer, pressed her body on the guy and gave him a light kiss.
Pissed, Klein charged towards them and separated them. How dare Rex kiss his girlfriend in his presence!
"Rex! How dare you!"
"Have you gone mad? What right have you to you lay your filthy hands on me? Damn this low life!" Rex fumed. Lara held his hands and caressed them tenderly.
"Take it easy baby. And as for you, Klein, what's your problem? Can't you just focus on your job? Fill our glasses with wine and serve the food properly," Lara ordered. She spoke calmly, as if she wasn't doing anything out of place.
"Lara....how can you be out here with another guy? You are my girlfriend for goodness sake and I love you!"
Lara threw her head back and laughed.
"Girlfriend? Very funny how you assume I'll be with a poor college brat like you. I, Lara Badmus, with a church rat? Hell no! You must be delusional if you think we were dating. Rex is rich, caring and loving and that's what I want. Not some stupid miserable college boy with no money."
"No Lara, don't say that. I love you so much and you know I do. I'm struggling to give you as much money as I can afford," Klein begged.
"Interesting. People of your class shouldn't be with beauties like Lara. She's mine and I'm taking good care of her. Stay off. I'll act like this never happened. Now, do your job and make this night a memorable one for my love's birthday."
Klein glared at Rex and resisted the urge to punch him on the face.
"Lara, I swear I love you. I was waiting to get my wages so that I would get you something for your birthday. Please, don't leave me, I love you so much," Klein begged. He moved closer to Lara and touched her hands.
Slap!
Lara slapped him, grabbed a glass of water and threw the contents on him.
"We are done! I'm with Rex now and this is someone you cannot match up to. He doesn't have to wait for miserable wages to treat me well. If you hadn't served me like a servant, do you think I would have looked at you twice? You don't deserve me, get that into your head!"
