Betrayed and Mocked. In a moment of revenge she makes a mistake that would change her fate completely. Starting from the marriage she is forced into to a fast changing life she never anticipated.
"I win yet again" Sylvie smiles warmly at the Old man seated ahead of her. Her pair of greenish blue eyes sparkling admirably like the drops of rain rolling off the blue tent above their heads.
For a second, the old man was entranced in her optimistic glow. Even the moist air could not rival the freshness that one got from looking at her smile.
"Tsk what a pity" The Old man asked his tongue in regret. First from the fact that he had lost for the umpteenth time to this lovely young lady in a game he was very prideful in his skills, and secondly for the fact that this despite playing against this young lady for a consecutive number of times, she still won't tell him where she was from or share anything more than her name
"I must say you surpass your age mates when it comes to playing chess. You must have learnt from a really professional player. Did you grandfather teach you?" He asked trying his best to see if he could pry a little bit information from her lips.
Sylvie smiled wryly. At the mention of her grandfather, she almost could not hold back the wrinkle in her brows still at the end, she gave a wry smile and nodded. It was the truth after all, she had learnt all she knew from her maternal grandfather.
"What a great man he is. Perhaps you should bring him out someday. I bet I would be his match instead" The Old man laughed and said confidently.
To his twisted logic, Sylvie covered her mouth and laughed. "Don't you think that's incorrect? If you can't beat me, how do you intend to win against my grandfather?" She stuck out her tongue and asked playfully.
Sharing in her mood, the old man laughed along. The air around the two was so harmonious that it was almost impossible to believe that they were mere acquaintances and not family members.
Eventually the Harmony was disrupted by the sound of a ringing phone.
Sylvie took out an old taped phone from her worn out purse. A glimpse at the screen was enough to wipe out the smile on her face totally. She looked at the time reflected on the screen of her phone and shock flashed through her face.
Time was gone!
Once again, she had lost track of time sitting at this stool conversing to the old 'beggar'. How ironic that the minutes she spends here talking to a stranger were the happiest she would always be in a long run. Now reminded of the time gone, she had lost the joy she felt a second ago and instead was filled with fear and trepidation.
A contrast that the old man noticed without even trying. The ringing continued incessantly where as the girl say there stiffly. Her eyes fearfully glancing from the name on her rubber strapped phone screen and then the time.
Without even waiting for him to ask, She gathered her things from the table not forgetting to pick up the trash he left on the table beside the board of chess "I have to go. We'll meet next time same time same place!"
"I won't be here next_" the rest of his words were stuck in his throat as the girl's figure had already sprinted away into the raging storm.
"I couldn't even bring up the resort" The old man sighed as he took out two slim elegantly printed paper. Each showing a gold plated word; VVIP.
He had come today especially to hand her this invitation card to the chess club party that was happening next week. How unfortunate that he could not complete his primary goal. Feeling disheartened he dig out his phone and dialed a number.
The phone had only rang for a second before the other side picked it up.
"Unfilial child come pick me up!" He said agitatedly Into the phone.

Running through the rain. Sylvie could not stop to care for herself which was already drenched till she looked like a homeless dog. She ran till she eventually came to a stop in front of a grand gate.
She hid under the guard post roof for a second then tried to arrange her appearance. Her cloth was stuck to her skin like a second skin. Her hair drenched till it appeared scantily whilst glued to the side of her face. She was in a complete disheveled state. Even tugging and hitting was not enough to return her to looking the least decent as she did before she jumped under the rain like it was mere illusions.
The guard standing at the post watched her try to straighten herself up. Even him could see this was a futile effort still he didn't stop her.
She managed to straighten her look a little but. Her hair pulled into a loose ponytail and her clothes wrung quite a bit too much. The fabric was already not a quality one. Being squeezed that much to get rid of the water caused it to lag significantly till it looked even more haggard, still it was better that looking like she was a mole rat.
"Hi" She offered a small smile to the guard that just witnessed this embarrassment moment before walking in and disappearing beyond that gate.
In the sitting room the Semi-grand mansion.
A group of people sat down at the round cushion. The sounds of their laughter and conversation never seized to echo in the room. Whatever they were discussing was evidently a joyful occasion as the satisfied and pleased smiles of their face was easy for people to see as was the imminent wealth of whosoever was the owner of this house.
Who else could it be if not the Casper Family. Although they were not your classic multi-rich family, they still were amongst the nouveau rich one. With a blooming company in the Real Estate business, they were ranked at the top six families in the city and amongst the top 15 in the country. What a great achievement.
Still nothing beats their biggest achievement of having a marriage arrangement with that Rivera Family.
"Indeed it would be a wonderful day" Middle age, Madam Casper chuckled excitedly.
"Say Josephine, do you think it was time that we announced it to the public?" She twirled the wine in her glass cup and brought this up with a knowing look in her eyes.
For sure, the excitement on the face of the equally middle aged woman seated across from her dimmed a little bit.
Josephine picked up her wine glass and tried to hide her twitching smile behind it.
"We should let the kids decide, after all they are the one walking down the aisle not us" What a tactical way of rejecting Tabitha's suggestions.
Tabitha knows she had just been rejected. The corner of her lip folds a little in disdain. She wouldn't have brought that topic up if it weren't her daughter who had specifically requested it. Shoving the decision back to her son was a way of Washing her hands off the duty of informing them that the Rivera Family had no plans to make that arrangements public and also explain what that was so.
Tabitha knows this, nevertheless she feigns an understanding look.
"That's true. We old geezers shouldn't meddle too much in the relationship of youngsters. Especially when everything is concluded in stone already. Going back now would only bring harm to both family. Don't you think?" She gave a threat of her own. Her message was simple, whatever the reason the Rivera Family had, had better not interfere with the plans they already made or it wasn't going to end well for both Family.
In Terms of status, The Rivera Family was much more influential that the Caspers. However a thief could bring down a mighty Co once he knows what to hold and what to pull. Having interacted with each other for a long time, their secret was bound to reach the ears of the other.
Josephine frowned to this. It was exactly Because she was aware of this that she could stomach the impudence of this woman before her severally. If it wasn't so then she would have put her to her place.
