Chapter 1 Episode 1

CHAPTER :

"it's over, Khiara." A deep voice sounded out and Khiara shook her head vigorously.

"No, baby. We can't end what we have. I love you and cannot let you go." Khiara replied frantically. She then stepped forward to touch the owner of the voice but she was pushed backward.

"Get away from me. You will never be enough for me. You're so annoying." The deep voice was heard again.

"No, you can't leave me." Khiara said again and stepped forward to touch the man before her but she only caught the air.

"What! You can't leave. You belong to me!" She yelled out loud and then started to run but she found herself landing on the hard floor with a loud thud.

"Ouch..." Khiara cried out, pain coursing through her whole body. Her phone dinged in the distance.

She opened her eyes slowly to see that she was in her bedroom. It was dimly lit and she could only make out vague outlines of things.

"Not again..." Khiara whimpered, tears leaking out of her eyes. She had just ended her relationship and she couldn't stop having nightmares about it.

The words that she would never be enough rang continuously in her head. However, she successfully blocked out those words. Her nightmares were so frequent that she had started to think that she was never going to be enough for anyone.

At this point, she just wanted to be alone.

Holding her banging head, Khiara supported herself to sit on the bed.

She then heard her phone ding again and she wondered what the hell was happening. The sounds from her phone indicated that she had messages.

She grabbed her phone with a loud groan and unlocked it.

Scrolling through her messages, her eyes went wide when she saw the messages.

"Happy Birthday, Khiara..." A message stated and she realized that it was her twentieth birthday!

"Oh no..." Khiara cried again. She wasn't in the mood for a big birthday. She knew she would have to entertain the guests and she was ready for that.

A knock sounded on the door and Khiara's head whipped in the direction of the door.

She wasn't in the mood to meet anyone but she knew she couldn't just decide to stay in bed. She stood up to her feet and then started to walk toward the door.

With the aid of the dim light from her phone, she was able to navigate her way forward. But before she opened the door, she was quick to wipe her tears.

As soon as she opened the door, she heard a loud cheer.

"Happy birthday..." Her family cheered.

The light from the hallway streamed into Khiara's eyes and she groaned. She could see her parents and sister, with smiles on their faces and also with three boxes in hand.

"Thank you..." Khiara said, with a meek smile on her face. Her heart felt warm at their loving gesture. But still, she didn't feel like entertaining anyone.

"You should get dressed, Khiara. We have a big surprise for you. The birthday party will start in an hour." Khiara's mother said to her, stepping forward to place a kiss on the celebrant's cheek.

"Happy birthday, Khiara." Her sister, Anna, stepped forward and handed a small box to Khiara. She then received presents from her parents.

With a big smile on her face, Khiara said, "I'll be down soon, mum."

An hour later, Khiara was standing before her wide mirror.

"Do you think it's beautiful?" Khiara asked with a forced smile on her face. She was referring to the light pink dress she had on.

"Of course, it is. Are you ready? Mum and dad are waiting." Anna said and then took Khiara by the hand.

"Let's go." Khiara said and then took a deep breath.

They walked out of the bedroom, and through the hallways. They could hear the sounds of music coming from the common hall.

"Are you excited about today?" Anna asked in an irritatingly loud voice. She wiggled her brows suggestively.

"Of course, I'm excited." Khiara lied but then she noticed Anna's gestures and she knew something was up. She decided to find out later.

As soon as they got to the top of the stairs.

The anchor of the event, introduced, "Welcome, Miss Khiara."

The guests burst into a round of applause as Khiara descended the stairs. Anna walked two steps behind her.

She then looked back at her parents.

"Happy birthday once again." Her parents wished.

"Thank you, mum, and dad." Khiara said, the forced smile on her face still on.

"We would like you to meet someone." Her mum stated and Khiara nodded. She decided to go with the flow so she would be done with everything.

Her father then led her to the handsome man she had seen earlier.

"Princess, this is Alpha Asher." He introduced and Khiara raised her brows in wonder.

"Alpha Asher, this is my daughter, Khiara, your wife-to-be. Isn't she so beautiful?" He then introduced Khiara to Alpha Asher.

"Glad to meet you, beautiful." Asher greeted and stretched his hand toward Khiara.

On the other hand, Khiara was frozen in shock. What did she just hear?

"Wife-to-be? I'm not getting married, father." She said after she recovered from her frozen state but her father was nowhere to be found.

"Do you want to have a walk with me?" Asher asked but Khiara gave him a stink eye. She walked past him and then sat at the makeshift bar and ordered a glass of whiskey.

Her mind was reeling on what was happening. She had just gotten out of a relationship, drastically. She was still healing and then she was being made to get married.

With a loud sigh, she downed the drink in her hand.

Two hours later, the party was coming to an end, and Khiara was incredibly drunk.

She stood up to her feet, staggering. Her eyes were hazy as she walked up the stairs. She got confused by the number of doors she was seeing and ended up in a guest bedroom.

Opening her hazy eyes, she fell into Asher's arms. A need to be loved, overwhelmed her and she placed a kiss on his lips.

In a few minutes, their clothes were off and their bodies intertwined under the sheets.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.
