Cleo planned to surprise her boyfriend on his birthday, but instead, she caught him cheating with her stepsister. Furious, Cleo reported the incident to her stepsister's fiancé, Sean. However, Sean had already discovered the betrayal and proposed they work together to plan a revenge scheme. Without much thought, Cleo agreed. But, during that revenge plan, it slowly became clear that Sean wasn't just an ordinary man. He was someone with a big secret Cleo could never have imagined.

The Sweetest Revenge For The Betrayer Chapter 1 The Reverse Surprise

Cleo stood at the door of her boyfriend's apartment with a wide smile. In her hands was a box of birthday cake decorated with a small candle, ready to be lit. She had already imagined the surprised expression on her boyfriend Evan's face when he saw the surprise.

Carefully, Cleo unlocked Evan's apartment door using the access code he had once given her.

The apartment was silent. The dim lighting in the living room made her think Evan might be asleep or unaware of her arrival.

It wasn't surprising for Cleo to assume Evan was asleep-it was already late at night. Even so, she was determined to surprise him.

Her steps were cheerful, almost soundless. But after just a few steps, she heard a faint sound coming from the bedroom. At first, she thought it was the television, but as the sound became clearer, Cleo's heart began to race.

"Ahh ... faster ...."

A woman's voice came through, soft and filled with moans, followed by the voice of a man Cleo knew all too well.

Evan.

Cleo froze in place. Her eyebrows furrowed, curiosity and unease rising in her chest. With hesitant steps, she moved closer to the bedroom door, which was slightly ajar.

She peeked through the crack. What she saw made Cleo's world crumble instantly. On the bed were Evan and her stepsister, Celine, completely naked.

Their bodies were pressed close together, sweat glistening on their skin under the glow of the bedroom light.

"So, when are you going to break up with that fool?" Celine's voice was sharp and clear, each word slapping Cleo with unbearable pain.

Cleo clasped a hand over her mouth, trying to stifle the gasp of disbelief. Her hands trembled, the cake box she held nearly slipping from her grasp.

"I'll end things with her soon. I'm tired of pretending to love her," Evan replied, his tone dismissive. "She's nothing compared to you. You're so much more exciting, especially in bed like this."

After finishing his sentence, Evan pulled Celine into his arms and kissed her passionately, as if unwilling to let even the smallest space exist between them.

Cleo couldn't hold back her tears any longer as she watched the scene unfold. Slowly, she turned and walked toward the door, leaving the apartment behind.

Once outside, tears streamed down her face. She had planned to give Evan a surprise, but instead, she was surprised. Her heart ached as if it had been ripped to shreds.

Inside her, a fiery anger began to build. She vowed to make them pay for what they'd done in a way that would be far more painful.

She could have stormed into the bedroom and confronted them right then, but she wanted to deliver a punishment so cruel they'd never forget it.

With determined steps, Cleo walked out of the apartment, ignoring the tears still streaming down her face.

Once outside, she paused to collect herself, then promptly threw the birthday cake in her hands into a nearby trash can.

Taking a deep breath, Cleo reached into her bag and pulled out her phone. She had decided to tell her stepsister's fiancé, Sean, about what she had just witnessed.

Quickly, she typed out a message.

[Sean, I need to talk to you. There's something very important you need to know.]

She hit send, and within seconds, a reply appeared.

[What's wrong, Cleo? We can meet now. I'm not busy.]

Cleo stared at her phone screen for a moment before replying briefly.

[I'll be waiting for you at the cafe nearby. Come quickly.]

Once the message was sent, Cleo headed toward the cafe where they would meet. Each step felt heavy, but she knew this was the first move in her revenge. She wouldn't let them get away with what they had done.

"How long have they been cheating?" she whispered. "I'll make you both suffer. Just wait."

With her determination growing stronger, Cleo continued walking, letting her anger fuel the revenge she had carefully begun to plan.

When she arrived at the cafe, only one thought crossed her mind: they had to feel pain far greater than what they had inflicted on her.

While waiting for Sean to arrive, Cleo ordered a cup of coffee. The warm steam rising from the cup in front of her should have been calming, but her mind remained in turmoil.

Evan and her stepsister Celine's betrayal replayed in her head like a broken record that wouldn't stop.

Cleo stared into the dark liquid in her cup, desperately trying to find a sense of peace that felt impossible to grasp. Unintentionally, her mind drifted to the past-to the days when Evan was her everything.

The memories came flooding back.

"Cleo, you know I can't live without you, right?" Evan had said, holding her hand tightly.

At the time, they were sitting in a small park near Evan's apartment, laughing and talking about the future. Evan had promised to always be there, vowing to be the one who would make her happy.

The memory was so sweet, like honey that had now turned to poison. Cleo smiled bitterly as she recalled how she had once believed every word Evan said without the slightest doubt.

But those sweet memories were quickly buried beneath the bitter reality she had just witnessed-Evan and Celine, in that room.

A betrayal she could never have imagined was now painfully real before her eyes. Suddenly, the ache in her heart transformed into anger, slowly taking over her.

Without realizing it, Cleo gripped the coffee cup in front of her tightly. Her fingers clenched around the porcelain, her breaths growing heavier.

"The cup will break if you hold it too tightly."

The voice startled her out of her thoughts.

Cleo was startled and immediately turned her head. Sean standing beside her with a smile, his gaze full of curiosity.

"Sean," Cleo murmured, her voice trembling slightly.

Sean pulled out a chair and sat across from her. He studied her for a moment before speaking.

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
