"Dante Sanchez was a man of honor and grace and may his soul continue to rest in peace." The voice of Uncle Romero speaks loudly over my mother's loud sniffling.

"May his soul rest in peace." All the followers of my father gathered together say in chorus.

"How could he leave me at a time like this." My mother sobs and I almost roll my eyes at her, we all knew my father was nothing but a nightmare, the pretense was beginning to tire me out.

It doesn't take long before all the guests and families present for the last memory of my father disperses.

"It is time Seraphina." My mother whispers and I know what she meant but I feign ignorance.

"I don't want you to go." My cousin Tiana whispers beside me and it was beginning to feel like we were about to host another funeral.

"Seraphina, come here" Uncle Romero calls from the dinner table.

"It's almost time for you to leave." I have been hearing this all day. "But- you don't have to leave if you don't want to." Uncle Romero says and my eyes widen at his words.

"Are you being serious?" I ask him my excitement bubbling underneath.

"Yes, you do not have to get married if you do not want to." Uncle Romero says.

"But Dant-" my mother goes to interrupt my happiness.

"I know what my brother said, Diane, but he's no longer here is he? I will no longer sit and tolerate watching my niece being handed over to that brute." My uncle strongly says, I never knew he cared this much about me.

"Seraphina do you want to get married to him?" Uncle Romero asks and I'm quiet for a second, afraid this might be some sort of trap but I nod timidly anyway.

"No, Uncle." I tell him.

"Then it's decided. You will leave for England immediately, your mother and sister will join you soon, I'll take care of things down here for a while until everything cools off." Uncle Romero says and I watch him with tears in my eyes, my head turning towards my mother.

"Go on, go pack up." Uncle Romero says softly nudging my hand and I did not need to be told twice.

In less than thirty minutes, I already had my luggages packed up with a big smile on my face, the heavy cloud of being forcefully married to some strange horrible man has been lifted.

"Seraphina, are you sure about this?" My mother asks in fear from my doorway.

"Yes mother, I am. Do you not want to see me happy? Living a different life from what we have been forced to?" I ask her softly, moving to hold her hands.

"Yes dear, of course I do, but your uncle-" My mother says, swallowing hard.

"My uncle is only trying to help." I say interrupting her and she sighs.

"Take care of yourself and keep your phone with you at all times." My mother says in defeat with a small smile on her face.

"Thank you mama." I whisper and after saying my goodbyes to my cousin and uncle, I'm off to the airport with the family's guards.

Thirty minutes of unimaginable joy in my head, I look up front and I'm confused for a second.

"Jason?" I call out to one of the guards.

"Yes ma'am?.

"This is not the way to the airport." I tell him and he looks towards his partner before nodding at my question.

"I'm sorry ma'am, Boss asked us to pick something up from the club before leaving." Jason explains but something still feels off.

"This is not the way of the club either." I say, my eyes watching his.

"Yes ma'am, we are headed to the club of a mutual friend to your uncle." Jason says and I relax and go back to being cozy.

In my world, you needed to be alert at all times and I wasn't alert enough.

"Is she the girl?" A slutty woman in pink asks from the entrance of the club and Jason, my personal guard nods.

"Jason we have been driving for hours to get here, when do we get to the airport?" I ask him impatiently, turning away from the woman.

"Take her inside." I hear the woman say and my brows crease.

It is not until two bulky men move closer to me that I realize she has been speaking about me the whole time.

"Jason what's going on?" I ask beginning to panic.

"Jason?" I call when he doesn't bother to give me an answer.

"Jason what is going on? Ask them to let go of me." I beg, desperate to leave.

"I'm sorry ma'am, direct orders from your uncle, you are to remain here, this is your new home now." Jason says with a smirk and I watch him collect bundles of cash from the woman before leaving.

"Jason please, what do you mean?" I scream out in fear as the men grab me.

"No, no, no, tell my uncle I'll be good, just please let me out." I plead but the men ignore me, dragging me inside, throwing me onto the rough floor of a tiny room.

"Shut your mouth." One of the men yells violently at my screaming and crying.

"I'm so sorry, please let me out." I cry, beyond scared but they all ignore me, locking me up and walking out of the room.

Why would Uncle Romero do something like this to me? I have no idea how long I've been here for days, weeks? I lost track of time at some point in between losing my mind.

"Have her dressed up, the auction will begin soon, she is to be our first piece." I hear a voice say from outside.

Two young girls barge into the room, dragging me up from the floor.

"Come on girlie, we don't have enough time." The first lady says.

"Get changed Into this." The girl says throwing a dress into my face, if I could even call the material that.

"No, I will not." I tell her after clearing my sour throat, my mind fixed.

"You either get it on yourself or I will have the men do it for you." The lady threatens and I gasp.

"Do you have any idea who you are speaking to?" I glare at the lady and she laughs in my face.

"Oh you poor little thing, of course we all know who you are, your own uncle is about to sell you off to one of those terrific men out there, lucky you." The lady mocks and I try to hold back the tears threatening to fall.

"Come on, get dressed dear, save up all that energy for later, you'll surely need it." The other lady softly says and the first lady giggles and I wonder what that was about.

Once I'm changed into the uncomfortable, see through dress, I'm escorted through the club and into an underground den.

I jump in shock at the sudden loud whistling and yelling of multiple men from inside a room.

I get dragged into a dark room and I swallow in fear.

What is going to happen to me?

"Gentlemen and Ladies, welcome to today's auction show." The voice of a man shouts and more loud whistling and laughter follow and more fear grips me but I can neither see or do nothing.

"You are about to be introduced to the greatest piece you can possibly find this entire month, Welcome the alluring Seraphina, a magnificent and endowed beauty, she is a very, very naughty virgin girl." The voice says with a chuckle and my heart stammers with every one of his words.

I was about to be sold?

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.
