The Hot Chase After Divorce Chapter 1 Betrayed And Divorced

Elena's Point of View

"You can't do this! I am your mate! Your Luna!" I screamed at Rex, the only man I have ever loved. "In which world do you think that what you are doing makes any sense?!"

"In my world!" He thundered. "I can do what I want, when I want, however I want. And right now, I want you gone from my pack."

"The pack will never accept this-" I shouted at him in pain, hurt and anger.

"I am their Alpha! They will accept what I want them to, or they will leave." He growled at me.

"Why are you doing this, Rex? What possible reason could you have for doing this?" I cried as I collapsed to my feet.

"These are my reasons. And I don't have to explain them to you. Just make sure that you are out of this pack before sunrise."

"It is because of her, isn't it?" I asked brokenly. "Maya, you told me that there was nothing going on between you two. That it was all in the past. You told me not to worry. You liar!" I screamed at Maya for betraying me with her deceptive lies.

"There is no point screaming about this. If you had done your duty, all of this wouldn't be happening," He said dismissively as he turned away from me.

"My duty," I whispered to myself. "You say that like I am the one who can control having a child."

"Well, it is certainly not my fault. Maya has proved that."

"What, no. You wouldn't. Rex!" I cried out, my heart was totally shattered.

"It is true." He said quietly. "She is carrying my child and I know that there is no way I can allow her to carry my child out of wedlock. So you have to go. Peacefully. If you love this pack as much as you say you do, you will leave here right now without any noise".

I watched through a curtain of tears as he walked out of my room, my world vanishing with him.

A part of me kept saying that it was a lie, that it was some sick game.

But it was definitely not.

The man I have loved since I was sixteen, the man I have loved for eight years, my own mate, has cast me aside for his teenage fling.

As I remained sprawled on the floor, the words of my friend, Lisa, ran through my mind.

"I am not saying you should reject him, Elena. All I am saying is for you to take some time to get to know him. There are a lot of factors involved in this. Foremost, he is from another pack, one of the most powerful packs in fact. If anything happens, do you think our Alpha would speak up for you? No, he won't. Second, Rex is older than you. Like ten years older, he already has a fiancee. Do you think she would be happy with you? You have to think if you are willing to put up with that shadow all your life!"

My goodness, she was right all along.

I was so convinced about the mate bond, the illusion that mates were bound together forever, that he would never hurt me.

He was still the most handsome I have ever known. Strong, well-built, wavy blonde hair, startling green eyes, ivory skin.

Heavy muscles and lean, and when he pulled me into his arms, I always felt so safe.

How wrong could I have been?

I should have insisted on him not meeting Maya.

I was naive.

Childish.

And now I am paying for it.

"Where can I go now?" I whimpered to myself before I broke down in tears again.

"Elena dear, where is Elena?"

I looked up to see Alice, Rex's mother, standing by the door, staring at me in shock.

"Elena!" she said in a panic tone as she rushed to me. "What is wrong? What happened? Where is Rex? I will go find him now." She said as she got to her feet.

"No!" I gasped out as I held a grip of her hand.

"Elena," she said quietly as she got down to her knees. "What happened?"

I sniffed at the catarrh dripping from my nose, while my eyes were still flooded with tears to continue. "Him and Maya."

"No. No, he wouldn't". She said in horror.

"He did! He said so himself. And now she is having his child, and he wants me out of the pack by tomorrow!"

"What?!"

"He said that if I loved the pack as I claimed to, I should leave quietly. He said it so calmly! Like I was nothing to him! Like the past years we spent together was nothing!"

"That! It is not happening. Not on my watch!" She snapped as she got up to her feet again and walked to the door, only to stop at my words.

"There is no point. I am leaving," I said quietly.

"Elena!" She whirled around to face me. "No! You can't. You are the Luna of the Crystal pack! You can't leave. I will talk to him, we will sort this out.

"There is no point," I repeated. "It doesn't matter if he decides to let me stay. He betrayed me. Told me to leave my home. There is no way I can ever look at him the same way again. I will leave". I said as I slowly got to my feet. "Not because I failed, but because he did. He had single-handedly destroyed our love and the trust between us. Staying here will just be mere torture. For me and everyone who holds us dear."

"But what about the pack?!"

"It is his pack. Let him figure out what to tell them. I don't care right now."

"Oh, Elena. My sweet, sweet child," she said as she walked towards me and took my face. "Where would you go?"

"The world is vast, and I don't believe there is no place for me. I will find it another dwelling place".

"At least let me help you. I can find you a good apartment to stay in."

"No, Alice," I said to her gently as I extracted myself from her. "It is not that I don't appreciate it, but I can't risk Rex finding out where I am. He wants me out of his life. Well, now so do I. And that means everything. You have been a wonderful mother to me, and I am truly sorry."

"I understand you, my child, I do. And I am sorry. So sorry that this has happened to you. I am sorry."

"It is okay. It is not your fault," I told her.

"Can I at least help you pack?"

"I would appreciate that."

We both fell silent after that, as I moved to pull down a suitcase. Alice insisted that I take everything, all the clothes and jewels and money, everything that would help me start a new life.

I know he has given me till tomorrow, but you can't bear staying here for one more night and so, before I knew it, we were both outside of the pack after taking a route in the backyard to avoid unwanted eyes, waiting for an Uber.

"Would you at least call me?" She asked. "Just to let me know you are alright."

"I will send an email," I told her as soon as I got into the cab.

She placed a peck on my cheek before closing the door and soon the car pulled away.

As I watched the pack vanish behind me, I placed my right hand on my tummy.

How could I have stayed?

It was not possible.

How could I have stayed and let my child be raised by a man willing to cast me aside, because his ex-girlfriend was pregnant for him.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."
