THE REJECTED LUNA Chapter 1 CHP 1

You might be familiar with those stories where a young girl is rejected, because she is tagged a wolf less girl. Well, that is not just my story. My name is Ember Fin, and I am an orphan.

I started living with my uncle after I lost my parents to a disastrous flood, that claimed many lives in my city. Till today, some say that it was the anger of the moon goddess upon the community, that made her destroy a lot of lives.

"Phew!" I sighed in frustration and weakness. For the past few days, I and some other late shifters who had been rejected and sold by their families, were jam-packed in a very small confinement.

To make matters worst, we weren't given feed, and we were also treated like servants. What pained me the most was that my wicked uncle, had claimed every property my late parents had left behind.

Being dragged down the hallway in chains, I knew that it was the highest level of pain that my body could endure.

"Would you walk very fast, you untamed rejects?" The wild man barked at us. It was very obvious that he was the emcee.

Well, we were all tired as a result of exhaustion and pain.

"My back... my back...!" I screamed in pain. One of the ruthless men standing behind me, had flogged my back with a painful whip. Even as I made to fall on the ground, I kept getting some more lashes all over my body.

Almost immediately, my whole body got covered in blood. The worst part of my dilemma, was that none of them cared about what they were doing to us. It was even very obvious that they were enjoying the pains that they were inflicting on us.

In no time, we arrived at the hall. Throughout my journey on that chain, I could only cry in pain, and also call on the moon goddess to come and take me away, just like the way that she claimed my parents.

We got to the hall, and we met the presence of an audience, that I later discovered were mostly Alphas, who came to look for younger and fresher blood that they would prey on.

All my body was sore, and I irked of fresh blood and rotten meat. Obviously, from my untreated wounds.

"So, I promised you'll a spectacular display, today." The emcee began, and I stared at him in disgust.

Their were over give of thirty of us on that chain, that had been bounded legs and hands together. At that very sight, I had witnessed some who passed away.

"Looking at these young bloods, I know that it'd be a tough decision to make. Let's start from the first person!" He said, and they started bidding on the price that she would be sold at.

Although my vision was actually blurry, and I was also the last person on the line, and I could clearly see how everything was going.

Soon, like a movie, I was just the last remaining.

There I laid on the ground in a helpless manner, I cried unto the moon goddess with the fear that she might have deserted me.

With so much hate in me, I cursed each of the men sitting in the audience. I couldn't explain how they derived joy in preying on the vulnerability of young girls.

"She is the last girl remaining, and obviously the most beautiful of them all." The emcee started again. This time, he was obviously talking about me.

Each passing second, I would notice the impatience in the eyes of those men. Their eyes were filled with both lust and also evil.

"I hate you." I cursed at him, but I was silenced with an ear deafening punch that almost shattered my brain.

"You cursed animal!" He spat at me.

At this point, I had given up already, and I was just hoping that the worst wouldn't happen.

To think that I was being manhandled by this man, and none of them could ever help me.

"Mere looking at her, you'd know that she is very fertile. She will definitely fill your home with plenty wolf babies." The emcee said, and they whole audience started laughing at me, again.

I was just so pained.

Here I was, sitting down in front of an audience of men who loved to capitalize on the weaknesses of others.

The most annoying part of it was that they were actually laughing like drunk fools who had lost their minds. In all honesty, I actually didn't find anything funny in all the naughty jokes that they were making.

"You'll will suffer and die in hell. Karma will come after all of you." I cried out in frustration, and the response was another round of laughter.

What was funny to them?

Why did they find it funny?

"You'll be the first to die." One of the guards fired back at me, and dashed towards me with a sword.

"Stop!" the voice of the emcee, echoed across the entire building. "Do not tamper with this commodity. Remember that if she has any scar, her market value would also reduce as well." He yelled at the guard, and he drew back immediately.

What would have happened if he didn't hold that boy back?

Where has their conscience gone to?

"So, who is making the first bid?" He asked the audience.

"Twenty thousand dollars!" A deep baritone voice shouted from the back of the audience.

"Fifty thousand..." Another intercepted him.

"One hundred thousand dollars..." Another.

Yet, another, until a shocking incident happened.

A voice that sounded more superior to the rest mentioned a figure, and the auditorium went into a long murmur.

"Ten million dollars." The voice muttered, and the whole attention turned to him. Everyone wanted to see who it was. Well, the emcee didn't waste any time, before declaring the auction, closed.

I stared in uncertainty, as I didn't have any idea, about any drama that was even happening at the moment.

"Sold to Alpha Roman Moscow!" The emcee mumbled under his breathe, and dashed off the stage with immediate effect like someone who had seen a ghost.

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.
