Fall in love by the lake - My broken CEO Chapter 1 Robert

I was getting out of the shitty Honda my dad got me as the cool autoumn breeze hit my face. God, I hate New York... In my mind I was back in sunny California with two babes by my side enjoying a refresing drink when a rude taxi driver's honk got me out of my daydream

"dude you comin' or goin' or what?! " he yelled. I turned my face towards the sound then proceeded to walk in front of his cab.

I tried to get myself together , prepearing myself of what is waiting for me in the next two months. Two months. That's how much time I gave my dad to reach his stupid goal before I go back to LA minding my own business. Not that it concerned me if he succeeded or not, I was determent to leave here as soon as possible. I decided not to live my life according to him, but this, I had to do for him. He raised me and paid my bills , altough he was a pain in the ass about it, but still I never had to work a day in my life , but was 'livin da vida loca' thanks to him. God, I can't wait to get out of here and I haven't even started work.

I looked up at the skyscraper in front of me, and with a heavy sigh I entered the building. I watched as crazy ass workaholic New yorkers were running towards the elevators with a cup of coffee in their hands as they were already typing on their phones. They didn't even look up. I could never live like this - thought to myself - always in a hurry, like there was no tomorrow and somebody's gonna steal my job at any moment.

I entered the elevator and pressed the button to the top floor where the interview was held. As I stepped out of the elevator - not gonna lie - my face dropped. The huge hall was packed with nervous individuals , waiting eagerly for the secretary to announce their names so that they could meet the boss and convince her about their skills an expetise. I was confident until a few minutes ago as my father told me that his friend got me this interview. I thought I was the only one applying. I mean, I know it's New York , but fuck...at least 50 candidates were there for the PA position.

Anyway I sat down waiting with the others quite impatiently. I could't help but notice I was one of the only 3 male candidates. I heard that everyone was shitting their pants of the boss but it really suprised me that only 3 guys had the guts to show up in this huge city. It was one of the 5 top companies in the city afterall, and the position we were applying for was the PA of the president. I mean... If you were a carrier driven individual what more could you want in your resume....

The interviews were quite fast, once they called out your name you entered the office and were out of it in no time. There were no forms to fill , no pre-interview shit, none of that like that at other companies. Seems like a mere look at your stupid face and a few minutes were enough for the "Ice Queen" -as they called her - to know that you're not good enough for her. I hated her already. I mean, why the facade...gather us all here just to throw everyone out within an hour. Entitlement as it's finest.

As there were less and less candidates left in the hall I became familiar with some faces and started a little small talk with some of them. I was taken aback when they shared their work experience with me. These girls were fresh out of college and already had 2 years of work experience when me, on the other hand in my 28th year of age and couldn't show up any experience other than the required internship I took in university for my degree.

I checked my watch , it was 8:45 am and only three of us were left in the hall . The blonde secretary came and called one of the girls in, while giving me a reassuring smile with a wink. What the fuck..I saw from the corner of my eye that she was eye fucking me from the moment I stepped outside the elevator but what can one say...I have that effect on ladies. Anyway, back to Earth Robert, I told myself , it's not the place and time, that's not why you're here. Not that the blonde was any special so I quickly prepeared myself as it was my turn to go soon.

A brunette that entered 3 minutes ago, already walked past me with a defeated look, signaling me a 'no' with her head meaning she didn't get the job. I should be happy but I felt for her, as she told me how much she needed to job. Next was the redhead's turn but she was out in two.

The blondie walked towards me with seductive steps, announcing my name like it wasn't obvious that it was my turn.

"Robert Miller... You can go in" .

I used my mother's maiden name when I applied, thinking my real name would give me away in no time in this city. I nodded and walked in the room with confident steps.

It's time to face her. The Ice Queen...

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.
