I Wait For You, My Love Chapter 1 Contract Terminated

The night following a lengthy separation was filled with unrestrained passion.

After slipping in and out of awareness multiple times during lovemaking, Natalie Simpson finally registered the familiar sound of water running in the bathroom.

Resting against the pillow, she felt completely drained, yet the moment the man stepped out, she gathered all her remaining energy and pushed herself upright.

Connor Hughes emerged shirtless, droplets still trailing from his damp hair. His skin, unusually smooth for a man, seemed to radiate an almost mesmerizing allure that was impossible to overlook.

He reached for a folder, placed it on the nightstand, and nudged it toward her.

"Contract terminated."

His words struck like an icy gust, leaving her frozen in place.

Her gaze landed on the bold heading-Sponsorship Agreement-printed across the document. A tremor ran through her as she fought to keep her tone composed.

"There are still three months left. Can't you wait a little longer?"

She had always known this day would arrive. After so many years by his side, it was inevitable. Yet, she had clung to the hope-just a little more time, just a little longer-to remain with him.

At least not now, when she had just been told she had only six months left.

The heavy silence between them gave her the clearest, most devastating answer.

"It was just a joke." Natalie lifted her shoulders in a casual shrug, trying to play it off. "Honestly, I've been meaning to end this for a while. My family's been urging me to settle down, and they've already lined up blind dates for next week. I was actually wondering how to bring it up to you."

She forced out a laugh, as if the situation was nothing more than a trivial matter.

Connor, midway through drying his hair, paused, his dark eyes flickering toward her. "You're going on blind dates?"

Natalie nodded, her expression giving the impression that it was the most natural thing in the world. "After all, I can't be with you forever; I need to settle down."

Given her fragile health condition, dreaming of a future with him was out of the question. All she wanted was to leave without making a scene.

Connor's eyes darkened. Irritated, he tossed the towel aside, pulled on his clothes hastily, and left his hair still damp.

"Dean will take care of the rest."

His voice was devoid of warmth, treating her less like a partner and more like an object he had lost interest in.

A sharp ache twisted in her chest. In that instant, every lingering thought she had held onto dissolved. She no longer harbored any illusions.

Connor's gaze landed on the torn blouse on the floor, realizing it was beyond repair. After a brief pause, he spoke again. "Stay here tonight. Dean will bring fresh clothes in the morning."

Natalie forced a smile and said, "Don't forget to remind him to bring birth control pills."

Connor's hand halted briefly as he adjusted his watch. Without looking back, he turned to leave. "Can't you tell him that yourself?"

The forced smile on Natalie's face stiffened before slowly fading.

The next morning, at exactly ten o'clock, Dean Williams, Connor's assistant, appeared at the door as expected.

He handed her a cup of warm water along with a familiar pill.

"Appreciate the cooperation, Ms. Simpson."

For three years, she had been taking these pills while with Connor. Every single time, Dean was the one who delivered them-always with that same polite, detached expression, ensuring she took them.

Natalie stared at the pill in her palm, an unsettling chill creeping through her veins.

"I brought warm water for you. Drink it before it cools," Dean said, his tone seemingly considerate, though she knew better.

He was merely making sure she wouldn't be pregnant with Connor's child.

Natalie smiled faintly, swallowed the pill, and took a slow sip of water before returning the empty glass.

"Thanks, but I prefer mine with ice."

Unbothered, Dean pulled out a stack of documents and began laying them out one by one.

"A villa at Aroma Estates, a penthouse at Bloom Towers, a suite in Spring Residences..."

As he continued listing properties, Natalie's thoughts wandered.

She had first visited Aroma Estates two years ago on her birthday. That night, she had casually mentioned to Connor that she had never seen the ocean before.

Despite having just returned from a trip to Uzrersey, he had driven for hours to take her to the coast, just so she could witness the stars shimmering over the waves.

She still remembered the salty breeze, the rhythmic crashing of the tide, the way her hair tangled with grains of sand-most of all, she remembered Connor's voice, whispering her name over and over.

That night had been the most unforgettable birthday of her life.

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

For seven years, I drank the bitter tonic my fiancé, Alpha Adrian, gave me, believing it would cure my "wolfless" defect. I was wrong. It was poison. He wasn't trying to heal me; he was keeping me weak so he could replace me with my foster sister, Ariel. When the fire consumed the Alpha's Wing, I was trapped under a burning beam, my legs crushed. Adrian kicked down the door. I reached out to him, screaming for help. But he didn't look at me. He looked at Ariel, who was lying on the floor in a silk nightgown. He scooped her up, cradling her like she was the only thing that mattered. I begged him not to leave me. Instead of helping, he used his Alpha Command on me, his voice booming with supernatural weight. "Stay put! I'll be back for you!" It was a lie. He used his power to freeze me in the inferno and left me to burn alive. I survived, only to watch him publicly reject me for her the next day, with my own father's blessing. They called me a "genetic dead end." They thought I would crawl away and die in shame. I didn't. I limped up the mountain to the Neutral Lands to find the one man everyone fears-the exiled Alpha, Garth Morgan. "I have the Gamma Bloodline Scroll," I told the massive figure emerging from the shadows. "I don't want your gratitude," Garth growled, his eyes like storm clouds. "I'm not here for gratitude," I replied, staring him down. "I'm here to make a deal with the devil."
