Forced out of a mental hospital by her family, Nicole was made to marry Aidan-reputed to be disabled-in her sister's place. The public ridiculed their union: a so-called lunatic and a cripple. What they didn't know was that Nicole had a sharp mind, countless talents, and secret identities. High society sneered at her unruly behavior, but Aidan always took her side. "My wife is too fragile to hurt anyone," he'd say. But soon- "Sir, your wife destroyed someone's house!" "Let her." "Sir, your wife ran away!" What Makes A Power Couple Chapter 1 The Unwanted Marriage

"Be good. Hold me. Don't move..."

A deep, gritty voice, edged with an irresistible allure, whispered harshly against Nicole Wilson's ear, his breath scorching her skin in the pitch-black darkness.

Heat radiated relentlessly from his body, enveloping Nicole entirely, causing every muscle in her body to stiffen in fear. She felt her breaths becoming shorter, more frantic. Her mind screamed at her to escape, yet her body remained frozen.

The sensation consumed her, pulling her deeper, as though she were slipping beneath the surface of dark, icy waters.

His kisses landed on her skin like drops of fire, one after another, each one burning. Sweat slipped from his forehead and traced a slow, burning path along Nicole's neck. With a mix of care and possessiveness, his fingers chased away the dampness on her collarbone, leaving behind a trail of warmth.

It felt like the weight of him could crush her spirit entirely.

Softly, yet undeniably seductive, he murmured close to her ear, "There's no need to be afraid-I'll make you my wife."

Tenderly, he brushed the tears from Nicole's cheeks, treating her like something incredibly precious, only to claim her lips fiercely the very next moment.

Suddenly, Nicole jolted awake, her breath coming in sharp gasps. Looking around-she was still in the car.

The same nightmare-the one that relentlessly haunted her-had returned once again. That suffocating room. The edge of danger in the air. His distinctive, raspy whisper... It always felt too vivid, too real to be just a dream.

Taking slow, deliberate breaths, Nicole fought to steady her trembling nerves, though the memories from five years ago stubbornly lingered.

Beyond the car windows, sunlight spilled generously over the city. Ariosa had grown busier, more alive than she'd ever recalled it being.

She hadn't even noticed how much time had slipped by-five years locked away in that mental hospital.

It all began when her younger sister, Marissa Wilson, plotted against her five years ago and sent her to spend the night with a stranger, costing Nicole her virginity.

Within a month, Nicole discovered she was pregnant, though the father's identity remained an agonizing mystery. That same year, her child was born lifeless.

During that same time, the business of her father, Brody Wilson, soared. Every family member had a stake in it-even her, the daughter he had discarded and sent off to rot in the countryside.

Together, Cathy Wilson, her own mother, and Marissa schemed to cast her out, locking her away in the mental hospital. Taking advantage of her weakened state after childbirth, they'd stolen her rightful ten percent of the shares of the Wilson Group.

Now, Marissa was set to marry into the prominent Moore family through an arranged marriage-to become Aidan Moore's wife. Rumors painted Aidan, the Moore family's second son, as disable and repulsive, condemned by a fortune-teller to die young, before reaching twenty-eight. Very few people had ever laid eyes on Aidan in person.

Someone like Aidan had never been what Cathy had in mind for Marissa. That was when they suddenly remembered her.

Under the cover of night, they sent a driver to drag her out of the mental hospital. If Marissa's future hadn't been dangling on the edge, they would've let her rot behind those locked doors forever.

Reclining in the back seat, Nicole shut her eyes, her face carved from ice.

Everything they had stolen from her, she was ready to take it all back. This time, the ones who once crushed her weren't getting away without damage.

Soon enough, she reached the Wilson family's residence. Five years had stripped this place of any affection. For her, it was nothing more than a shell.

Her steps were steady as she walked up the driveway. Just as she reached the doorway, she caught sight of Cathy and Marissa, laughing over walnut ice cream like the world was perfect.

"If you hadn't come up with the plan to make that useless girl stand in for you, I swear I would've cried myself to sleep."

Marissa replied softly, "Please, Mom. Don't talk about Nicole like that. I'd be completely lost without her. I'm just scared she won't say yes to any of this."

Cathy let out a short laugh. "She got pregnant by some guy no one even knows and ended up giving birth to a corpse. She should be grateful anyone's offering to marry her at all. And it's the Moores. She doesn't even have the right to utter a rejection."

"Think about it-your mother's not wrong. You're going way too easy on her. Have you really forgotten what she put you through five years ago?" Brody said, his jaw tight.

Marissa finally gave a small nod. "You can count on me, Dad. I'll never be a burden like Nicole. Marc and I will always be the ones you and Mom can brag about."

Just hearing the name of Marc Wilson-his son-made Brody's expression ease up.

Back when the Wilson Group was drowning in debt, Marc had pulled them out of it. He kept the company going when everyone thought it was over.

"And what makes you so sure I'll go along with any of this?" Nicole's cold voice suddenly broke through the living room.

The three froze and turned as one toward the sound.

Cathy's mood soured at once. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on your way to the Moore family?"

"Grandmother set up a will before her passing, leaving me and Marissa each with ten percent shares in Wilson Group. Don't you think it's about time I got my shares back?" Nicole retorted.

Brody slammed his hand down on the table and stormed toward her. "You humiliated this family. The stock price tanked because of your mess. I took those shares for a reason. After all that, you still have the nerve to ask for them back!?"

Unshaken, Nicole met his furious glare with a smirk. "It's fine you don't give them back."

She made her way to the couch, dropped into the cushions, crossed one leg over the other, and continued without a hint of rush, "Then I'm not getting married today."

"You little-" Brody raised his hand, ready to strike.

There wasn't the slightest twitch from Nicole. She raised her chin, met his eyes, and spoke in a voice cold enough to freeze the air. "Go ahead. Hit me. The second you do, I'll walk away from the shares, and this marriage deal dies right there."

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

SHANA GRAY

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.

REGINA MCBRIDE

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I sat on the edge of the examination table, the crinkle of the sanitary paper sounding like thunder in the sterile room. The doctor didn't even look at me as he confirmed the news: the pregnancy was over. My husband, Keyon, didn't answer my call. He just sent an automated text: "In a meeting." When I returned to our cold mansion, I found his iPad glowing with a message from his "muse," Katina. He was throwing her a secret gala tonight-on our third wedding anniversary. He told her he couldn't wait to escape the "boring" and "draining" atmosphere I created at home. Keyon didn't stumble in until 3 AM, smelling of Katina's perfume with a smear of red on his collar. When I handed him the divorce papers, he laughed in my face. He called me a "glorified housekeeper" with no skills and no future, promising I'd be back in three days begging for a subway ticket. He even bet his friends ten thousand dollars that I wouldn't survive a week without his name. He had his assistant cancel my credit cards and block my gate access before I even reached the end of the driveway. He wanted me to starve. He wanted me to crawl. He sat in his office, mocking the "desperate" woman who pawned her three-million-dollar wedding ring for scrap metal just to pay for a meal. I stood on the rainy curb, watching the man I had protected for three years treat my life like trash. He didn't know about the ultrasound I just threw in the bin. He didn't know that while he was calling me "dull," I was the one secretly writing the code that kept his billion-dollar empire from collapsing. As I slid into a cheap Uber, I opened a hidden, encrypted app on my phone. The screen refreshed to a dashboard for an account Keyon didn't know existed. The balance was ten figures long-the accumulated wealth of "Solaris," the world's most elusive tech genius. Keyon thinks he just evicted a parasite, but he's about to find out he just declared war on the only person who can hit "delete" on his entire life.
