Billionaire's Regret: Ex Returns Chapter 1 Divorce

She was 6 weeks pregnant.

Ava Smith walked slowly into the living room and sank onto the sofa, wrapping her arms around her knees, her mind swirling with uncertainty. Clutched in her hand was the pregnancy test report she'd received just an hour ago.

She absentmindedly touched her stomach, a storm of anxiety building steadily inside her.

It has been two years since they got married but it hadn't thawed the ice around Logan Smith's heart. Her unwavering loyalty felt more like a cruel joke in return.

Still, she couldn't stop herself from hoping-maybe the baby would change things. Maybe he'd finally care.

Just then, the sensor at the entrance chimed.

A man stepped inside-tall, commanding, dressed in a sharp black-and-gray suit that emphasized his broad shoulders and slim waist. His eyes were cold, unreadable, and piercing.

His gaze swept across the room, his expression unreadable, his handsome face distant and cold.

Ava stood up quickly, holding the test report tightly in her hand. She took a breath, ready to speak. "Logan, I have something to-"

"We need to end this," he said, cutting her off without hesitation. "These are the divorce papers, sign it."

Ava froze, the words catching in her throat as she stared at him in disbelief and then asked. "Why?"

The man gathered his eyes and began to speak. "You aren't needed. I married you because my father made it the only way to inherit his properties. I wasn't going to allow my hard work to go to the snake. I have all I need now and I think you are useless now. My true love is back. Arabella is back!"

Logan's phone rang and he answered. "Arabella what's wrong? Are you okay?" It was the woman.

Ava's heart ached. She stared at the man in front of her in disbelief. She knew that his heart only belonged to his mistress.

Her marriage to him for 2 years was filled with hatred. Every word he uttered made Ava's heart ache the most. She had been jealous of Arabella. Every time he called her he showed her care that she never deserved. It wasn't her fault that she was forced into this marriage. Her mother caused all this and now she was filled with tears.

"I will be right there," that was his word which brought her back from her sad thoughts.

"Are you heading out?" Ava asked, her voice tinged with sadness.

"Well as you can see, I have something so important to handle, every discussion can wait."

"Really, is it because of that bitch?" Ava asked angrily.

"Shut the fuck up! It shouldn't be your headache if I am going to see anyone. All you need to do is to get back in bed and wait for me because that's all you do as a useless wife that you are." he said and stormed out angrily.

Ava clenched her teeth, trying so hard to suppress the tears. If Logan knew that she was pregnant, would he still ask for a divorce? Deep down, she knew that he wasn't the woman he loved. The real woman he loved was back. How was she going to live without him and the baby? In Logan's heart, she was just an insignificant trifle he could easily dump.

Ava sat on the sofa crying for so long. She remembered the first time she met him five years ago, how he handled her with love and care. Her reverie was broken by Logan's voice outside. She quickly got up, wiping her tears. Then the doorknob opened and then there was Logan standing and staring at Ava like she was a ghost.

"Logan? What are you doing back? Aren't you supposed to be with Arabella?" she blurted out.

"That shouldn't be your problem. Back to what I said about the divorce. Sign the divorce paper and get out of my life."

"What if I don't agree?" she asked, her voice trembled as she stared at him.

Logan seemed to have known that she wouldn't agree and his tone was mocking. "I am not asking for your opinion. Do you think I love you? You irritate me."

Her heart hurts the most and this time she couldn't hold back her tears. "Logan Smith, you agreed to marry me first. I never forced you to marry me. How can you even think of a divorce?"

He stared at her angrily. "You know who I love, if my father hadn't forced me into getting married to you, do you think I would have given you more than a passing glance? I have made a big mistake."

Ava let out a short laugh. "Really, you said you loved me and cared about me. Now everything has changed just because that bitch is back! Where was she when you had a heart attack? She disappeared into thin air and now Arabella Carter came back claiming she loved you. Are you that foolish Logan?"

As soon as the word left her mouth, the man threw a hard slap in her face. "Who are you to tell me what to do? You have no right to call her name?

Ava covered her face, she was completely dazed, her delicate body couldn't stop trembling. It was the first time Logan had hit her just because of Arabella Carter.

Her heart stinger, as she snapped through suppressed sobs. "Why should I step aside for her? I am married to you and not willing to get a divorce.

A trace of impatience flashed in Logan's eyes as he pushed Ava down to the sofa and tore her clothes. "Ava you're such a bitch and I think you only need my dick to get better."

She pressed against the man's chest and stopped his fright. "Logan, are you crazy!"

Still Logan wasn't ready to stop, she pushed him away and quickly stood up. "Logan, what if I tell you I am pregnant. We are expecting a baby. Do you still want to get a divorce?"

A flicker of surprise crossed Logan's eyes. "You're pregnant?"

Ava searched Logan's eyes for a sign of reconsideration.

"Wasn't the last time an accident? Didn't I tell you to take care of it? You can't be pregnant.

"Really?"

Logan scrutinized Ava with a skeptical look before his tone returned to the initial harshness. "Well I don't care. The best thing is for you to get rid of the child and get the hell out of my life."

His words cut through Ava's heart like a thousand sharp knives leaving her breathless.

"You shouldn't take this so seriously. I will get the driver to take you home as soon as you sign the papers."

Hearing the sound of the door closed made tears she had held back for a long time flow down her cheeks.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancĆ©, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."
