Deadly Affair With My Brother Inlaw Chapter 1 Elena's Pov

I stirred on the bed and then my eyes flipped open. Glancing around, my eyes slowly adjusted to my surroundings. My head throbbed a little, and my hand went to my temple, and then it hit me. I wasn't sleeping. I was under the influence of alcohol, barely aware of what was going on. The only thing that mattered was the heady mix of alcohol that plagued me and the forbidden emotions that thickened the tension in the room.

The man kneeling over me on the bed undid the buttons of his shirt and peeled it off, his eyes fixed on mine, sultry and burning with desire. I blinked as his image doubled-tripled, before coming back to form one person-my brother-in-law. The thought of who he was should keep my conscience in check, but it didn't.

I wanted him. Now. And that's what mattered.

He arched towards me slowly, his hand grabbing the back of my head as his warm lips met mine. My breath caught when he began, slow at first, before the kisses grew more passionate. His free hand trailed down from my cheek to my neck and chest, leaving trails of fire in its wake. Almost of their own accord, a hand travelled to the small of his back, while the other one threaded through his hair.

I returned the kiss with the same fervour as his weight leaned against me, and when he broke away, tracing the kisses down my neck, my breath caught in my throat...

Six Hours Earlier

I watched my reflection in the mirror as tears trailed down her cheeks, staring back at me with hollow eyes, looking defeated.

"I miss you dad," I whispered, the emotions within me bubbling forward. I clenched my jaw as more tears ran down. Then I heard footfalls echoing in the distance, growing closer.

Piper's reflection appeared at the door, clearly irritated. "You're still not dressed up?"

I hesitated for a brief moment before I turned to her. "I've told you before-"

"No!" She snapped. "You don't get to tell me anything as it has to do with my orders." She took a few menacing steps towards me.

I opened my mouth and words failed to come out. She continued without a pause.

"How many times do I have to remind you that you're a Pearson?" Her voice came with weight and command.

"I know that-"

"No, you know nothing!" She shut me up, her trademark scowl taking over her face. "Because if you do, you'd know that part of your responsibility as a part of the Pearsons is never having to question my instructions!"

"I'm willing to marry anyone else," I pleaded. "I just don't want Luther Williamsburg, please."

"You don't get to make that choice, Elena," she took a few more steps into the room, her voice reducing to a low purr. "The Williamsburg are the most powerful families in all of New York, and they control Wall street. You're lucky they even want you."

I frowned, my hands clenching into fist by my side. "So, you're using me as a pawn? You're using me for your own selfish gains and-"

A sharp sting landed on my cheek before I could register the action that caused it. My hands went to my cheek, eyes stinging with warm tears as I staggered a little.

"That's not how you talk to Piper Pearson," she hissed with disdain. "I own you, and you owe me! I saved you from your worthless family that Vladmir Eldridge almost wiped out. You're living because of me, and you owe me the honour at least."

She started pacing the room slowly like she owned the place, circling me like a vulture eying its prey. "You'll marry Luther, or I'll send you back to the street. And trust me, by the time I'm done with you, you'd wish we never met in the first place."

Her words stung harder than the slap still ringing in my ears. My heart raced and my knees almost buckled.

"I don't have to remind you again," she huffed, still circling me. "You have five minutes. If I have to come up here again for you, well, you don't need a soothsayer to tell you the repercussions." She strolled towards the door and disappeared through it.

The door slammed harder than I expected, and I trembled, my body burning despite the cold temperature of the room. I sank back on the chair before the dressing table, my face going to my hands as I let it all out. My body trembled with sobs as desperation clawed at my chest.

I need a way out.

After a moment, I struggled to my feet, staring back at a sorry version of myself at the mirror as I struggled to draw the zipper of the elaborate dress Piper had chosen for me. It was too tight-that I thought I'd suffocate. My fingers grabbed the zipper and pulled, but it wouldn't bulge. I groaned.

The light flickered and went out.

I glanced around, wondering what was wrong. Hurrying to the window, I could see light rays from downstairs. The light issue must be from my room, I thought.

A soft creak snapped me at attention.

I stilled, glancing this way and that way. Sure that I heard something, I walked towards the closet, pulling one of the leaves open. My dresses on the hanger stared back at me. I made to close the door when a strong hand clamped my mouth shut. I trashed against his grasp when his other hand wrapped around my waist, holding me steady.

"Shiiii," he hissed. "I won't hurt you."

Slowly, I stopped struggling and bobbed my head so hard, my chest pounding. Slowly, he let go of me and I turned to meet his gaze. I couldn't make out his features clearly in the dark, but I could tell the man standing before me had a strong jawline and his hair was dark.

"Who are you?" I hushed.

"I-" A sharp knock from the door stopped him. I flinched.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.
