Married To My Ex Husband's Nemesis Chapter 1 One

Emily's POV

It was late December. I had just received the best news of my life. I was pregnant!!!

Daniel and I had tried for over three years to bear a child but all our efforts proved futile. I was glad that I had such a kind and understanding man, not so many men would have such level of patience.

I held the envelope in my hands and I clutched it to my chest and tears ran down my cheeks. I got closer and closer to our front door, so happy to break the news. As I moved closer and closer, a lot of things were becoming strange in my eyes.

First of all, the front door was wide open. Something that had never been done before. Knowing Daniel, he was the security conscious kind of guy.

The entire house seemed okay, everything was in place but Daniel was still no where to be found.

Where could he have gone?

I moved a bit towards our bedroom and was hearing rough sounds. I could hear low voices and the thumping sound of our matrimonial bed. Then the moan of a woman.

A woman?

"Yes, give it to me baby. Give it to me."

"Mmmh. Do you like it?"

That was Daniel' voice and the lady responding in a very seductive tone. That voice sounded oddly familiar.

I moved closer and then pushed the door knob.

Lo and behold, I found my husband fucking my bestie. His eyes widened when he saw me but she? She couldn't even care less. Her eyes were as dead as the act she was performing against a dear friend.

My heart shuddered. I could feel it breaking into so many pieces.

I came here to share good news only to meet bad news. Oh Lord! What is this? Is she prettier than me or what? What was it about her that made him go after her? Or maybe they were right all along, cheaters cheat because they want to. Because it is a conscious decision.

I took a step back at this realisation in front of me. Another woman naked before my man kissing and touching him.

"Emily i can explain." He tried to move a step closer but I used my palm to signal a stop it right there motion.

"Emily." He moved closer again.

"Will you stop it?" I cried, "I trusted you. I gave you my heart. I was loyal. Why? Why Daniel? Why?"

"It was the devil Emily I'm begging you. It was the devil." He fell at his feet and was crying before me.

"Of course," I rolled my eyes, "It is always the devil. Always the devil." I said sarcastically.

"And you?" I looked at her, "Aren't you going to say anything?"

She was as mute as a mouse.

"I'm done with this marriage." I uttered. "I want a divorce."

"Emily. Emily." He ran after me as I quickly zoomed out of the house and slammed my way into my car.

He kept on tapping at my car window endlessly and resorted to blocking the front of my car to stop me from moving.

"Move out of the way or I'll hit you!" I yelled at him but he wouldn't listen.

He was begging me to come down so we could talk. I started the engine and moved the car and that was when he dived into another side of the road.

Pathetic!

"Baby," I cried holding my tummy, "it's just you and me now. Your dad will never find out about you."

I didn't know where I was driving to at that point. I remembered my mom telling me that as soon as I'm married that I have no business going back to my father's house.

I come from a very strict religious home. My mom tolerated a lot of shit from my father when he was still alive and no matter how he treated her she never left his side.

She even landed in the hospital one time because of him.

My mom had suffered multiple miscarriages in the past as a result of the beatings before finally giving birth to me. I became her first and only child.

My mom was just lucky and she knew it. Do you know the amount of women that get killed everyday by domestic abuse? They're so many. If there is one thing that I have vowed to myself while watching my mom suffer is that I will never end up in an abusive or unhappy marriage.

I zoomed past with tears welled up in my eyes and my nose clogged up from the phlegm formed as a result of crying. I started breathing from my mouth and exhaling through my nose.

"Don't worry baby," I said rubbing my tummy, "mummy will take care of you."

My phone started ringing. I was too irritated to look at my screen, I was even more irritated when I saw the name of my screen.

Daniel.

I hissed and drove faster. I didn't have his time at all. Not at this point. The traffic stopped for a while and I was getting impatient. Normally, if this kind of thing happens in a movie the girl normally runs to her bestie to cry but guess who is caught cheating with my man?

Who is to console me now? Is it my mother? She will literally tell me to go back to my marriage.

Speaking of the devil, she started calling soon after. I guess Daniel told her that I wasn't home and you know how her lectures always are. She was just too male centred that she would take trash just to please them. I was tired. I tried.

I took all her lessons about how to please your husband, how to make him not to look at any other woman, I even bought books on marriage and seduction, I bought lingeries, I bought sex toys just to make my marriage more lively.

I guess my efforts just weren't worth it.

I knew what I was going to do. I was going to leave the city and start all over again. She can have him all she wants. He's all hers but he can never have access to this child that I'm about to raise.

I had just survived a private jet crash, my body a map of violet bruises and my lungs still burning from the smoke. I woke up in a sterile hospital room, gasping for my husband's name, only to realize I was completely alone. While I was bleeding in a ditch, my husband, Adam, was on the news smiling at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. When I tracked him down at the hospital's VIP wing, I didn't find a grieving husband. I found him tenderly cradling his ex-girlfriend, Casie, in his arms, his face lit with a protective warmth he had never shown me as he carried her into the maternity ward. The betrayal went deeper than I could have imagined. Adam admitted the affair started on our third anniversary-the night he claimed he was stuck in London for a merger. Back at the manor, his mother had already filled our planned nursery with pink boutique bags for Casie's "little princess." When I demanded a divorce, Adam didn't flinch. He sneered that I was "gutter trash" from a foster home and that I'd be begging on the streets within a week. To trap me, he froze my bank accounts, cancelled my flight, and even called the police to report me for "theft" of company property. I realized then that I wasn't his partner; I was a charity case he had plucked from obscurity to manage his life. To the Hortons, I was just a servant who happened to sleep in the master bedroom, a "resilient" woman meant to endure his abuse in silence while the whole world laughed at the joke that was my marriage. Adam thought stripping me of his money would make me crawl back to him. He was wrong. I walked into his executive suite during his biggest deal of the year and poured a mug of sludge over his original ten-million-dollar contracts. Then, right in front of his board and his mistress, I stripped off every designer thread he had ever paid for until I was standing in nothing but my own silk camisole. "You can keep the clothes, Adam. They're as hollow as you are." I grabbed my passport, turned my back on his billions, and walked out of that glass tower barefoot, bleeding, and finally free.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.
