Alpha King Rex was born with a fated mate "Gina" chosen by the Moon Goddess herself. But when he met her, he turned away in anger. He already had someone else "Jessica" his childhood best friend turned lover. Their bond was strong, undeniable and forbidden. Crushed by rejection, Gina vanished.

RISE, LUNA OF ASHES Chapter 1 THE BOND BROKEN

They called it a blessing.

A sacred gift bestowed by the Moon Goddess herself, a bond older than kingdoms and stronger than blood. It was said to be the purest connection a wolf could ever experience-a soul-deep thread woven by fate, linking two hearts long before they ever met.

The Elders taught that the mate bond existed to preserve balance within the wolf world. It united strength with compassion, power with wisdom, Alpha with Luna. It was meant to create harmony, ensuring that those chosen by the Moon Goddess would lead their packs with unity and purpose.

Every pup grew up hearing stories about it.

Stories of mates finding each other across vast territories.

Stories of wolves enduring impossible odds because the bond gave them strength.

Stories of Alphas who crossed oceans and mountains to find the other half of their souls.

The mate bond was sacred.

Irrevocable.

A blessing.

At least that was what everyone believed.

For Alpha King Rex of Crescent Moon, it felt more like a curse.

Especially the day he met Gina.

The day fate arrived at his doorstep and demanded a future he didn't want.

The day everything began to unravel.

The Great Hall of Crescent Moon had stood for centuries.

Built from pale stone and ancient timber, it served as the heart of the territory and the symbol of its power. Massive pillars lined the chamber, each carved with the names of past Alphas who had led the pack through war, famine, and prosperity.

Above them hung banners bearing the silver crescent crest of the kingdom.

The hall was crowded that day.

Warriors stood guard along the walls.

Elders occupied their ceremonial seats.

Members of influential bloodlines gathered to witness an important council meeting.

No one knew history was about to change.

The great doors opened.

A cool breeze swept into the hall.

Then Gina stepped inside.

The moment her bare foot crossed the threshold, something ancient stirred.

The air seemed to vibrate.

A pulse of power rippled through the chamber.

It wasn't loud.

It wasn't violent.

Yet every wolf felt it.

Heads turned immediately.

Conversations died.

The atmosphere shifted.

For a brief moment, it seemed as though time itself had paused.

Then silver light exploded around Gina.

A soft glow surrounded her body, shimmering like moonlight dancing across water.

Gasps echoed throughout the room.

Several Elders rose to their feet.

Warriors stiffened.

Even wolves who couldn't see the full manifestation felt the magic pressing against their instincts.

Only those carrying Alpha blood could witness the light completely.

And what they saw left them speechless.

The blessing of the Moon Goddess.

The unmistakable mark of a destined Luna.

Whispers immediately spread throughout the chamber.

"Is she...?"

"It can't be."

"His mate?"

"She's not even from this pack."

"Who is she?"

Gina heard none of it clearly.

Her attention had already locked onto something else.

Someone else.

Her heart hammered against her ribs.

For years she had dreamed about this moment.

Since childhood, the Moon Goddess had visited her in visions and whispers.

Not every night.

Not every month.

Just enough to leave certainty in her soul.

Again and again she had seen silver eyes.

A powerful wolf.

A king standing beneath moonlight.

The man destined to be hers.

The man she was destined to love.

She had carried that certainty her entire life.

Even when others doubted.

Even when she doubted herself.

The truth had always remained.

She was meant for him.

And now she was here.

Gina wasn't born within Crescent Moon.

She hadn't grown up among warriors and nobles.

Her childhood had been spent far from palace walls in the peaceful Southern Glades.

The forests there were lush and vibrant, untouched by political games and territorial rivalries.

She had spent her days running through fields, swimming in rivers, and listening to stories beneath starlit skies.

Life had been simple.

Safe.

Yet no matter how peaceful her upbringing had been, she always felt something calling her beyond the horizon.

As though her future waited elsewhere.

As though her life had been preparing her for this very moment.

Now she understood why.

Her wolf paced restlessly beneath her skin.

Excited.

Nervous.

Hopeful.

The pull was undeniable.

A force stronger than instinct.

Stronger than reason.

Stronger than fear.

She followed it.

One step.

Then another.

The ancient stone floor echoed beneath her feet.

Her pulse quickened.

The closer she moved, the stronger the connection became.

Then she saw him.

Alpha King Rex.

Standing at the far end of the hall.

The sight stole the breath from her lungs.

He was even more imposing than the stories claimed.

Tall.

Broad-shouldered.

Power radiated from him like heat from a fire.

His dark clothing contrasted sharply against the silver crest fastened across his chest, the symbol of Crescent Moon's authority.

There was something intimidating about him.

Something dangerous.

Yet beneath it all she felt the bond.

Warm.

Familiar.

As though part of her had finally come home.

Their eyes met.

The world vanished.

The hall disappeared.

The voices faded.

Everything narrowed to a single moment.

A single connection.

The mate bond ignited.

Raw.

Brilliant.

Intoxicating.

Power surged through her veins.

Her wolf practically howled with joy.

She felt every emotion at once.

Relief.

Happiness.

Wonder.

Belonging.

For the first time in her life, she felt complete.

Tears threatened to fill her eyes.

Not from sadness.

From certainty.

This was him.

This was her future.

This was the man the Moon Goddess had promised.

Then everything shattered.

Because Rex looked away.

Not in shock.

Not in confusion.

Deliberately.

As though refusing to acknowledge what had just happened.

Gina blinked.

Certain she had imagined it.

Her wolf whimpered inside her.

The bond remained.

The pull remained.

Yet his reaction made no sense.

Slowly, she took another step forward.

Then another.

Drawn by instinct.

Drawn by fate.

Needing to close the distance between them.

"You..."

Her voice barely emerged above a whisper.

The entire hall watched.

No one moved.

No one breathed.

"You're my mate."

The words hung in the air.

Simple.

Beautiful.

Terrifying.

Rex's jaw tightened.

A muscle twitched beneath his cheek.

For a brief moment, something flashed in his eyes.

Conflict.

Pain.

Perhaps even fear.

Then it vanished.

He still refused to meet her gaze.

"No."

The word landed like a blade.

Gina froze.

Her heart stumbled.

"What?"

"This isn't right."

Murmurs erupted throughout the hall.

The Elders exchanged alarmed glances.

Several stood immediately.

One Elder in particular stepped forward.

Elder Theon.

His silver beard trembled as he stared between them.

"Alpha Rex," he began cautiously, "the bond has chosen. You must-"

"I have someone else."

The interruption cracked through the room.

Sharp.

Final.

Unforgiving.

The hall fell silent.

Theon stared.

Several Elders looked horrified.

Gina felt the first crack appear in her heart.

Rex finally looked up.

Not at her.

At the crowd.

At the council.

At everyone except the woman fate had chosen for him.

"The Moon Goddess made a mistake."

Silence followed.

A terrible silence.

The kind that arrives when something sacred has been broken.

Nobody knew what to say.

Nobody knew how to respond.

Because wolves didn't reject fate.

They didn't question the Moon Goddess.

They didn't dismiss the mate bond.

Yet their Alpha King had just done exactly that.

Then another figure emerged from the shadows.

Jessica.

The room seemed to shift around her.

She moved with confidence.

With purpose.

With the certainty of someone who believed she already belonged there.

Her raven-black hair flowed over her shoulders.

Her posture was regal.

Elegant.

Dangerous.

Jessica came from one of Crescent Moon's most influential families.

She was beautiful.

Powerful.

And accustomed to getting what she wanted.

Without hesitation, she walked directly to Rex.

Then she took his hand.

The gesture was simple.

Natural.

Familiar.

The ease between them told a story all its own.

They had history.

They had shared moments.

Shared trust.

Perhaps shared dreams.

Their fingers intertwined effortlessly.

Not because of fate.

Because of choice.

Gina stared.

Unable to look away.

Something inside her began to collapse.

The bond remained active.

She could still feel it.

Still feel him.

Still feel the connection reaching toward him.

Yet he wasn't reaching back.

He was choosing someone else.

And somehow that hurt even more than outright hatred would have.

Jessica leaned against him slightly.

A small smile touched her lips.

Not warm.

Not kind.

Victorious.

The expression of someone who had already won.

Gina's stomach twisted.

The hall felt colder.

Smaller.

Harder to breathe in.

The bond pulled desperately inside her.

A silver thread stretched between two souls.

Straining.

Twisting.

Fraying.

There was no rejection ceremony.

No sacred ritual.

No formal severing witnessed by the Moon Goddess.

Only silence.

And pain.

Crushing.

Relentless.

Unbearable pain.

Gina felt invisible.

Moments earlier the room had looked at her with awe.

Now it looked at her with pity.

She hated that even more.

Still, she forced herself to speak.

"The Moon Goddess chose me."

Her voice cracked.

Yet she stood tall.

Refusing to break completely.

Refusing to beg.

Refusing to disappear.

Rex's expression never changed.

His answer came without hesitation.

"I choose her."

Those three words destroyed what little hope remained.

The Elders erupted into protest.

Voices rose throughout the chamber.

Arguments broke out instantly.

Some demanded Rex reconsider.

Others warned of consequences.

Several called the decision blasphemous.

Yet their words sounded distant.

Muted.

Meaningless.

Gina barely heard any of it.

Because her entire world had narrowed to a single truth.

She wasn't wanted.

Not by the man destined to love her.

Not by the pack she was meant to lead.

Not by the future she had imagined her entire life.

Slowly, she turned away.

Every step felt heavier than the last.

Her pride crumbled into ash.

Her dreams shattered beneath her feet.

The bond continued to unravel.

Piece by piece.

Thread by thread.

Until all that remained was a faint ghost of what should have been.

Nobody stopped her.

Nobody followed.

The great doors loomed ahead.

She reached them.

Then crossed the threshold once more.

The moment she stepped outside, the cold air struck her face.

Still she didn't stop walking.

Behind her, the doors of the Great Hall slowly closed.

The sound echoed like a funeral bell.

And with it, something deep inside her broke.

Something ancient.

Something wild.

Something that would never be quite the same again.

But fate was not finished.

The Moon Goddess did not choose lightly.

She did not weave souls together without purpose.

And bonds broken by wolves...

May yet be mended by destiny.
