Chapter 1 1. Moving To Forks

ALEXA

When I first arrived in Forks, I never expected any changes in my life.

However, I was wrong when I met that mysterious, gloomy boy: Nicholas Alexander.

"So, how is it? Did you finally choose me over that dog?"

"Oh, shut up, Nicho!"

March 12, 2024

It should be sunny or something in Australia, but if it's in Forks, it will be gloomy and rainy all day.

"Oh, rain, rain, go away," I recited, looking at the muddy streets of Fordland-the most gloomy area in Forks. I occasionally wrinkled my nose as my mother's sedan passed over the rocks.

"Come on, Alexa, it shouldn't be that bad to stay temporarily at your father's house. There's Jacob there. You used to have a crush on him, didn't you?"

"Well, yes, until you married his dad!!!" I replied sharply. I felt angry when I remembered that incident. "Because you married his dad, I had to bury my feelings! There's no way I can date and have a forbidden feeling with my stepbrother. This isn't a novel!"

"Well, yeah, sure...whatever," my mother rolled her eyes lazily. "At least now I'm divorced from him. Your status should be friends, instead of stepbrother."

And with that, my mother stepped on the gas and increased her speed.

Neither of us wanted to discuss this endless problem.

It wasn't long until we actually arrived at Jacob's residence.

"It's really giving off his vibe, I see," I thought, getting out of the car while looking at this classic American-style house. Despite being the Forks head sheriff, Jacob's father really likes hunting, so it's normal if his house is brown and a bit dark.

"There's even a furry carpet as a welcome, is that his hunting result-" "Alexa!!!"

"Huh?"

Suddenly, a pair of muscular tan hands hugged me from behind. I blushed when I smelled the familiar cedarwood scent, and feeling his toned abs, I knew who it was.

"Jacob..." I called in a breath. Jacob grinned widely, and his perfect chiseled jaw still rested on my shoulder.

"Hi, step, long time no see," he whispered in my ear. I giggled when I felt him sniffing my neck playfully, and I fucking didn't remember when he was this sensual. "I saw the car and only saw you. Where's Mama?"

"Mama?" I looked left and right and spotted her talking with my ex-stepdad. From the way they talked to each other, I knew that their conversation was awkward, and maybe my mother hoped to get back together.

"Well, it seems they're talking about adult things. You know what I mean. I don't even know why your father divorced her in the first place," I said without taking my eyes off them.

Jacob sighed. "Yeah, I know. But that's adults. If only they could think in the wild side...." Jacob's last words made me frown. "Anyway, I've transformed the guest room to your liking. Why don't you put your stuff there first? I can give you a hand to arrange it since I'm free."

"Okay, sure." Then, Jacob escorted me. However, it didn't end as an escort because Jacob suddenly lifted me up!

"Hey, put me down!!!"

The ride to the guest room was a pain in the ass because we had to climb the stairs.

Jacob threw me on the bed, and soon, he threw himself on me too.

"Oh gosh...Alexa...Since when have you been this heavy?? Is the food in Australia that good? You don't eat too many burgers, right?" Jacob asked, panting, and was immediately rewarded with a punch in the stomach by me.

"Hey!!!"

"First of all, Australia is not America, idiot. So we explored a lot of food there, and secondly..." I looked at him sharply before rolling and throwing my whole body on top of him.

"How dare you say I'm fat??? Have you forgotten that the last time we met was when we were 14 years old? I'm now fucking 19 years old, dumbass!"

"Okay, okay, you win, sweetheart! Now can you please get off me? I'm almost suffocating with your prettiness!" Then I let go of him.

I smiled, knowing that I won against him.

"Anyway, are you now..." "Jacob!! Get your ass down here!! Your barbells are blocking the way!!"

"Okay, Dad!!" Jacob shouted, getting up lazily from the bed. "Tsk, since he became the sheriff captain, he's become more fussy. You're lucky your mom got divorced when he was still a beaver sheriff."

"Well, if your father had been the head sheriff from the start, then my mother would have never let go. You know how she likes 'rough' men, especially in bed," I said sarcastically, which made Jacob snort.

"Well, yeah, I know," Jacob said before straightening his shirt. I just realized it was unbuttoned to his chest. "But I hope you like a soft passionate boy, because I...

A passionate one."

And Jacob quickly left. I blushed, clearly dumbfounded by his meaning.

"Is that a flirt?" I thought, before shaking my head. Reminding myself that Jacob is just my ex-stepbrother, and that I will stay here until July, so I...

Must not get involved in a forbidden relationship for 6 months.

"I better get some sleep now. It's been a long day," I thought, remembering that tomorrow there are many things to do at school. Since I will be in Forks for 6 months, I have to go to a temporary school, and I still don't know the school model and what subjects to take, or if there's very no, no teacher.

"I can only pray now. I just hope to get good friends and good teachers," I thought before turning off the light and getting into bed. I smiled a little when I saw stars on the ceiling.

Jacob must have prepared it because he knew I was afraid of the dark.

"If only he wasn't my ex-stepbrother..." I thought, making myself comfortable in bed, and sniffing the pillow with Jacob's body scent. Preparing to welcome the dreamless sleep.

However, I couldn't help but see a light from a window. And I swore that the light was red and like someone's eyes.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

My stepmother sold me like a piece of inventory to a man known for breaking people just to plug the financial crater my father left behind. I was delivered to the Morton estate in the middle of a freezing storm, stripped of my phone, and told that if I didn't make myself useful, my senile grandfather would be evicted from his care facility by noon. The master of the house, Adonis Morton IV, was a monster living in a silent mausoleum, driven to the brink of madness by a sensory condition that turned every sound into a physical assault. When I was forced into his suite to serve him, he didn't see a human being; he saw a source of agony. In a fit of animalistic rage, he pinned me to the wall and nearly strangled me to death just for the sound of a shattering teacup. I only survived by using my grandfather’s secret herbal blends and pressure-point therapy to force his overactive nervous system into a drugged sleep. But saving him was my greatest mistake. Instead of letting me go, Adonis moved me into a guest suite connected to his own bedroom by a hidden door. He didn't just want me as a servant; he needed me as a human white-noise machine to drown out the demons in his head. The nightmare deepened when he took the promissory note that defined my freedom and tore it into confetti. By destroying the debt, he destroyed my exit strategy. He replaced my maid’s uniform with a silver silk dress that clung to my skin but did nothing to hide the dark, ugly bruises his fingers had left on my neck. He branded me as his "primary care associate," a title that was nothing more than a gilded cage. I felt a sickening sense of injustice as he forced me to sign a contract that banned me from contacting other men and required me to sleep wherever he slept. He looked at me with a possessive heat, calling me his "medication" rather than a woman. My family had sold my body, but Adonis Morton was intent on owning my very presence, using my grandfather’s medical bills as a leash to keep me within twenty feet of him at all times. Standing in a neglected greenhouse with mud staining my expensive silk, I realized I was no longer a victim waiting for rescue. If I was going to be his medication, I would learn how to be his cure—or his undoing. I began clearing the weeds with a cold, calculated frenzy, determined to turn this prison into my laboratory. He thinks he has trapped a helpless girl, but I am going to pry open the cracks in his stone walls until his entire world comes crashing down.
