Chapter 1 Pregnant.

Chapter ONE.

Erika's POV.

"The necklace looks so good on you." Raven complimented me with a very huge smile on her face, and immediately she helped me with the necklace on my neck. I touched the diamond necklace that was given to me by my future in-laws.

It looked so good, and it matched with my white long dress. I would be getting married today. It was really a happy day in my life, and words can't express how happy I was.

I stood up from the chair, and admired my body shape that I could see through the mirror. "We should get going now. The guests must be waiting for us at the church." Raven reminded me, while she stared at the wristwatch that was right on her wrists.

I grabbed my crystal purse that was on top of the drawer, while she walked right behind me. We entered the car that was sent to pick us up at his house. My parents must be at the location already.

We were almost at the church. I was still finding it hard to believe that I would be getting married to him after four years of being together with him. Even though it was supposed to be a contract marriage, it happened that we both happened to fall in love, and that was the best part of it.

"Finally!" I muttered under my breath when we got to the church. I came down from my car, while I walked towards the entrance of the door. Raven walked right at my back as my best friend.

I looked right into the church and noticed that he wasn't there yet. I had to look at my wristwatch to confirm if I was not too early.

"The bride is here already." One of the guests announced this while all of them stared at me.

What is happening? I could see his dad walking to the entrance. "We have been trying his number, but it was switched off. It looked like he ran away." His dad informed me, while I squinted my eyes, knowing that it was not true.

"Have you tried calling his friend?" I questioned Charles's father.

"We tried his number; he told us that he couldn't reach him either." His father answered me. I touched my head in frustration. Why did he have to act this way on the most important day of my life?

"You don't have to ruin your makeup. We will just wait for him." He held my arm while he assisted me into the church.

"You don't have to feel bad." His mother, who was right by my side, told me while she patted my shoulder. They should do something about it. They had the power to find his location right now, and nothing was going to happen.

That was how powerful the family was.

Some of the guests were already complaining, while others were going. Why would he decide to humiliate me this way? After a few minutes of waiting, I heard that familiar voice.

It was that of Charles. He was here already. I looked back, and I was stunned to see him standing with a lady. He was with the popular actress. I squinted my eyes, hoping that I wasn't seeing the wrong thing.

"Why is he this way? Did you two have a fight before now?" His mother questioned me while I nodded my head in disapproval. There was no reason why the both of us would fight.

Anytime we fought, we would make sure to sort things out on that day, or a day before.

"No, mom." I answered her.

"I am so sorry if I came late." He apologized while he reached the front of the church. I looked at him, and the way he held the lady's wrist.

It looked as if he was so happy. "I am so sorry for coming late." He apologized again. He then looked at me, and I looked at him.

I was still confused by what was happening. I stood up from where I was sitting, and then walked up to him.

"What do you think you are up to? Why are you with her?" I questioned him. He diverted his gaze towards me.

"I am so sorry, Erika." He told me. He looked at the famous actress, who was right at his side, and then kissed her at my front. It was a very intense kiss.

I was expecting the guests to throw a tantrum, but it looked like they were really happy. It looked like they planned all of this. The tears were swelling up my eyes. I tried to hold it, but my emotions got the best of me.

Why would he decide to humiliate me this way? He then stopped kissing her immediately, and looked at the whole crowd.

"Miranda is mine. She is the one I like, and I am sorry for all that happened here." He apologized to the whole crowd. They all cheered him up instead.

I looked at his parents, and they weren't doing anything to stop him. After all the bonds that we shared together, this was the way that they decided to repay me? I thought they loved me as their future daughter-in-law, but it happened that they were waiting for this day also.

"Evans! Are you joking right now? If this is a joke or some sort of prank, it is better for you to stop now." I commanded him, and then he let out a soft chuckle.

"You fell for all my lies all these years?" He let go off Miranda's hand, while he walked closer to me, so that there was barely any space between us. "I never loved you from the start. I only use you for your body." He told me right in my ear.

I grabbed the necklace that was on my neck. "You are so evil." I shouted at him, while I threw the necklace and ran out of the church. "Erika! Wait?" I heard Raven's voice.

I bet she must be running after me also. "Taxi!" I shouted after I saw a can coming, and entered.

"Where are you going, ma'am?" He questioned.

"Just take me away from here." I instructed him while he drove off. I cleaned off my tears while I thought about those words he said to me earlier. It felt sharper than a two-edged sword.

I didn't know what a two-edged sword was like, but it was way more painful than that.

****

My feet were sore from walking barefooted on the silent road. I didn't know where I was going to. I don't know my destination or my location. Furthermore, I just wanted to be lost, and never be found. My heels were right in my hand while I kept on walking.

I felt that nausea immediately. I felt like vomiting. Furthermore, I went to a corner while I let it all out. I guess it was the stress.

"This is where you have been, Erika." Raven was here already. I wondered how she got to find me. I didn't bother to reply to her, while I acted like nothing happened.

"You have to stop all of this, and come back home with me." She urged me.

"You don't have to act..." I didn't let her complete her sentence before being interrupted.

"Act what? Do you know the kind of humiliation that I went through? Four years with him were a joke. Huh? Do you know how painful that sounds?" I questioned her, while she just let out a huge sigh again.

"I just want to..." I felt nauseous again, while I ran to the corner to let it all out. "You have to rest, Erika." Raven told me while she patted my back. I was feeling so dizzy that I could barely see anything.

Everywhere was getting blurry-not until I fell to the ground, feeling lifeless!

*BLACKOUT*

The ceiling was really blurry. I opened my eyes slowly, while I noticed that I was in a very unfamiliar environment. I remembered all that happened yesterday at the church, which made me sighed deeply.

Furthermore, I raised my head slowly, and then saw the doctor discussing it with Raven. I didn't know what the two talked about, because he left immediately. Raved turned back to look at me and said that I was awake already.

"You are awake." I could see the sorrow in her eyes. Why is she sad? Was it because of what happened yesterday? "What did your doctor tell you?" I asked her out of curiosity.

I remembered that I had fainted last night; maybe I was sick or something. Or could it be a terminal disease?

She held my hand immediately when when when she got to where I was. "The doctor said that you are pregnant." She announced it to me.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.
