Chapter 1 1.LET ME GO

Annabel's POV

"Let me go!" I screamed as I thrashed around on the hospital bed, my hands and feet were bound. I looked around as sweat poured down my face. There were doctors and nurses cladded in white and it seemed that they were preparing for a surgery.

"Who the hell are you?!" I screamed my lungs out in fright, "Why am I here?! Fucking let me go!"

But none of them paid attention to me. They were focused on setting the surgical instruments. My breath became ragged and heavy. The last thing I remembered was being alone with Michelle in the room. I have no idea how I appeared on this hospital bed.

My gaze fell outside while I screamed for help and my eyes widened when I recognized the faces of my father-in-law and mother-in-law. Hope flushed inside my heart.

"Mom! Dad! Please get me out of here!" I screamed.

However, Mr Davis and his wife Vivian scoffed and walked into the hospital room so casually. They smiled down at me but it wasn't the usual kind of smile. It was one full of contempt, it sent shivers down my spine.

"Didn't you stick your nose in my business, Annabel?" Mr Davis said to me with eyes as dark as the devil's, "Didn't I warn you not to cross paths with me, huh?"

I bit my lower lip to stop the tears from falling. Only few weeks ago I'd stumbled upon hushed tones. They were that of Mr Davis and his cohorts planning the murder of an associate. I was not so lucky and got caught. He threatened me not to say a word but it haunted me all night.

I spoke to Scott, my husband, about it but he thought it was a joke. He could never believe that his father is a murderer.

"You..you had to tell my son even after I warned you, Annabel!" Mr Davis muttered through clenched teeth.

Tears fell from my eyes as I whispered, "I can't let you kill an innocent man."

Both of them laughed at me like I'd gone mad. Vivian, my mother-in-law placed a hand on my belly.

"No," I cried even harder, that was my child. Mine and Scott's. "Please..don't.. I promise I won't say a word about it anymore! Please.. I'd do anything. Please don't hurt my child!"

"No," Mr Davis said to me, "I'll have to teach you a lesson so next time, you won't think I'm bluffing!"

"No..no please!" I cried and screamed, thrashing on the hospital bed, "It's... it's your grandchild! How..how could you be so cruel?!"

Vivian tucked her dark hair behind her ears. I should have known...I thought inwardly. She is Mr Davis' second wife and the mother to his second son. She is Scott's stepmother and so she has no blood relation to the child in my womb. She came across as a loving and wonderful mother when in fact she is a treacherous snake!

"Relax, it won't take long." she whispered as she caressed my face and I watched them walk out of the room, leaving me to my fate.

My crying and shouting did nothing to make the doctors have pity on me. They wheeled their surgical instruments towards my bed and dimmed the light in the room.

"No..no!" I sobbed, "Please don't harm my child! Please let me go, I am begging you!"

But they picked up a syringe and pierced it through my arm. I gave a yelp as it worked it way down my veins.

"Please.." I begged as I lost consciousness gradually, "Please...don't."

When I opened my eyes, I was in an entirely different room. Sharp pains coursed through my entire body and I felt stiff until warm hands held mine.

I opened my eyes and met the eyes of the only man my heart beats for. He held my hand and kissed my knuckles. His enchanting greenish gold eyes held a sought of pain that I could not understand.

When I looked further across the room I saw the entire Davis' family around my bed weeping. I sat up abruptly with the help of Scott.

I looked back at him and it was then I saw the dried tears on his cheeks.

"What's.. what's happening?" I questioned as I looked from faces to faces for an answer. I did not quickly remember what happened hours ago.

"Annabel-" Nathan, the second son of Mr Davis, etched closer to my bed. It gave me an uneasy feeling, my heart began to beat rapidly.

"Can someone answer me?" my voice broke, "What is happening?!"

Still, everyone maintained silence. My gaze fell on Michelle's hands around my husband's arm. She pretended to be weeping, but I could see through her lies.

Michelle was betrothed to Scott before I met him. However, when we fell in love Scott chose to be with me.

"I'm so sorry, Annabel," Michelle said as she blew her nose into the tissue, "The doctors tried their best!"

What is she talking about? I looked around even more confused. However when I connected to the smirk on the corner of Mr Davis' lips every memory of hours ago rushed into my head.

Michelle had made me unconscious.. I'd woken up tied to a bed..I gasped suddenly as my hand went to my belly.

I held it while looking down, feeling for my eight months old baby but I felt...EMPTY.

"My child..my baby.." I began to wince as I held my belly tighter trying to feel a movement, hoping against hope that the memories were just all a dream.

"Annabel," Scott held my hand and I lifted my gaze to meet his tear filled eyes.

He said, "We lost her. We lost our child."

I died on a Tuesday. It wasn't a quick death. It was slow, cold, and meticulously planned by the man who called himself my father. I was twenty years old. He needed my kidney to save my sister. The spare part for the golden child. I remember the blinding lights of the operating theater, the sterile smell of betrayal, and the phantom pain of a surgeon's scalpel carving into my flesh while my screams echoed unheard. I remember looking through the observation glass and seeing him-my father, Giovanni Vitiello, the Don of the Chicago Outfit-watching me die with the same detached expression he used when signing a death warrant. He chose her. He always chose her. And then, I woke up. Not in heaven. Not in hell. But in my own bed, a year before my scheduled execution. My body was whole, unscarred. The timeline had reset, a glitch in the cruel matrix of my existence, giving me a second chance I never asked for. This time, when my father handed me a one-way ticket to London-an exile disguised as a severance package-I didn't cry. I didn't beg. My heart, once a bleeding wound, was now a block of ice. He didn't know he was talking to a ghost. He didn't know I had already lived through his ultimate betrayal. He also didn't know that six months ago, during the city's brutal territory wars, I was the one who saved his most valuable asset. In a secret safe house, I stitched up the wounds of a blinded soldier, a man whose life hung by a thread. He never saw my face. He only knew my voice, the scent of vanilla, and the steady touch of my hands. He called me Sette. Seven. For the seven stitches I put in his shoulder. That man was Dante Moretti. The Ruthless Capo. The man my sister, Isabella, is now set to marry. She stole my story. She claimed my actions, my voice, my scent. And Dante, the man who could spot a lie from a mile away, believed the beautiful deception because he wanted it to be true. He wanted the golden girl to be his savior, not the invisible sister who was only ever good for her spare parts. So I took the ticket. In my past life, I fought them, and they silenced me on an operating table. This time, I will let them have their perfect, gilded lie. I will go to London. I will disappear. I will let Seraphina Vitiello die on that plane. But I will not be a victim. This time, I will not be the lamb led to slaughter. This time, from the shadows of my exile, I will be the one holding the match. And I will wait, with the patience of the dead, to watch their entire world burn. Because a ghost has nothing to lose, and a queen of ashes has an empire to gain.

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. Now the rivals' disgraced children have a poisonous proposal: Marry for vengeance. Crush their fathers' legacies. Never speak of divorce. Whoever cracks first loses everything. Can these two rivals, united by their vengeful hearts, pull off a marriage of convenience to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs? Or will their fathers' animosity, and their own complicated pasts tear their fragile alliance apart?
