My fated mate, Richard, and I were preparing for our sacred Mating Ceremony, a vow before the Moon Goddess meant to bind our souls for eternity. But a psychic message slammed into my mind-a weaponized memory sent by his adopted sister, Eva. In it, she was wrapped in Richard's arms while his parents, the Alpha and Luna, beamed with approval. For the next two weeks, I was forced to play the part of the adoring Omega bride. He would lie about "pack emergencies" to run to her, leaving me alone in a gown shop while she sent me visions of their trysts. His parents stripped me of the project I had poured my soul into for two years, handing it to Eva as a gift. They called me a weak-blooded Omega, unworthy of their son. Meanwhile, Eva sent me an audio clip of Richard promising her she would be the one to carry his strong heir, not me. They all thought I was a pathetic, disposable pawn in their twisted game. They were waiting for me to break. They had no idea I was secretly the heir to the most powerful pack on the continent. And I had already arranged for our Mating Ceremony to be broadcast globally, turning their sacred day into the stage for their ultimate humiliation.

Chapter 1

Isabella Brooks POV:

The image slammed into my mind without warning, a violation of the sacred space of our Mind-Link. It was a psychic message, a weaponized memory sent by Eva.

In it, my fated mate, my fiancé Richard, was laughing. His head was thrown back, his strong throat exposed, and his hand was tangled in Eva's blonde hair. She was pressed against him, her scent-a cheap mix of synthetic florals-clinging to his skin like a disease. Surrounding them were his parents, the Alpha and Luna of the Black Creek Pack, beaming with approval. His friends were there too, raising their glasses in a toast.

They were a perfect family. And I was the outsider.

My inner wolf, a beast I had suppressed for five long years, howled in my mind, a raw, guttural sound of pure agony. The bond the Moon Goddess had woven between Richard and me frayed at the edges, a searing pain that felt like my soul was being torn.

But I didn't let the pain show. I took a slow, steady breath, pushing the anguish down into a cold, hard knot in my stomach.

I closed my eyes and reached out through the Mind-Link, not to Richard, but to a connection I had kept hidden for years.

"Father."

The response was immediate, a voice as cold and sharp as a winter wind. "Isabella. What is it?"

"I need a favor," I sent back, my mental voice calm and even. "My mating ceremony is in two weeks. I want it broadcast. Globally. Every pack, every werewolf with a screen, needs to see it."

There was a long pause. I could feel his immense power, the authority of the Alpha of the Shadowfen Pack, weighing my request.

"It will be done," he finally replied. "But there is a condition. After the ceremony, you come home. You will stop this foolish game of playing an Omega and take your place as my heir."

"I accept," I said without hesitation.

"Good."

The connection severed.

Two hours later, Richard knelt before me in the pack's grand hall. He held a small velvet box, and inside, a moonstone ring glowed with a soft, ethereal light. This stone was a sacred symbol, meant to represent the purity and strength of a mate bond before the final Marking ceremony.

"Isabella Brooks," he said, his voice thick with an emotion I now knew was a lie. "You are my destiny, my other half. The Moon Goddess blessed me with you. Will you accept my Mark? Will you be my Luna?"

My wolf clawed at the inside of my mind, screaming "Traitor! Liar!"

I forced a smile, letting a single, perfectly timed tear roll down my cheek. "Yes, Richard," I whispered, my voice trembling with manufactured joy. "Yes, of course, I will."

He slid the ring onto my finger, and the crowd of Black Creek members erupted in applause. He stood, pulling me into his arms, his scent of pine and earth now tainted by Eva's cloying perfume. He was the perfect Alpha, the loving mate, and I was the perfect, adoring Omega.

It was all a beautiful, perfect lie.

For the next week, he played his part flawlessly, planning the ceremony with a passion that would have once made my heart ache with love. I watched him, a spectator to my own life.

Eva's taunts continued, little psychic daggers sent through the Mind-Link. A flash of them kissing. A whisper of a promise he made to her. She wanted me to break before the big day. She had no idea who she was dealing with.

The day we were meant to choose my ceremonial gown, Richard's attention was elsewhere. I saw the distant look in his eyes, the slight smile playing on his lips. He was in a private Mind-Link. With her.

"Isabella? Does this one please you?" he asked, gesturing vaguely at a dress.

"I want you now, Richie," Eva's voice echoed in his mind, sloppy and loud enough that the edges of it leaked into my own link with him.

He flinched. "I have to go," he said suddenly, his phone already to his ear. "Pack emergency. Beta needs me."

He kissed my forehead and was gone.

A moment later, a new message arrived in my mind. It was from Eva. A short, vivid clip of Richard storming into her room, his face flushed with desire. His lie, exposed in an instant.

My heart didn't break. It turned to ice. I calmly picked up my phone and sent a text to a number I hadn't used in five years.

The reply was instant. "Walter. At your command."

I typed my response, my fingers steady. "The plan is a go. It's time to begin."

I was still bleeding into the mesh underwear the hospital gave me when the photos hit the internet: my husband, the Don, forcing his tongue down his mistress's throat. Three days ago, that very mistress had shoved me off a yacht. I lost the baby. I lost my uterus. I was left completely barren. Yet, when my husband finally called, it wasn't to ask if I was alive. "The press is eating us alive," Dante barked through the phone. "Send a gift basket to Sofia. Fix this mess." To make matters worse, his grandmother stood at the foot of my bed, holding the hand of the daughter they had stolen from me at birth. "Mommy looks like a ghost," my daughter said, her voice devoid of love. That was the moment the last ember of affection died. I realized I wasn't a wife to them; I was just a broken vessel. So, when they sneered that I was useless, I didn't cry. I pulled a black USB drive from under my pillow and threw it on the bed. "Divorce papers," I said calmly. "And the complete security blueprints of the Moretti Fortress. Every blind spot. Every tunnel I designed." "Sign the papers and let me go, or I sell this drive to your enemies for one dollar." I left the country with nothing but the clothes on my back, vanishing into a freezing attic in Paris. I thought I was finally free. But three weeks later, Dante kicked down my door, looking at my poverty with horror. "Come home," he begged, tossing a box of diamonds onto my drafting table. "We can be a family." I looked at the man who had destroyed me and opened the window. "You're looking for the girl who loved you," I whispered, throwing the diamonds into the trash alley below. "But you killed her."

The heavy steel door of the industrial meat locker slammed shut, sealing me in at four degrees below zero. Ten minutes ago, I was the woman Dante Moretti promised to burn the world for. Now, I was the rat accused of poisoning his heir. Dante didn’t just lock me in. He looked at me with eyes devoid of warmth and said, "Evidence says otherwise." He chose the lie of his arranged wife, Sofia, over my truth. For months, I endured the price of loving the Underboss. I watched him marry Sofia in a grand ceremony to secure a family alliance. I let him force me onto a table to drain my blood to save her life when she was injured. I took twenty lashes from his family’s enforcers, all while he stood by and watched, claiming it was necessary to "protect" me. He told me to wait. He told me the marriage was a sham. But when I finally escaped and he came chasing after me, revealing that Sofia was a fraud and he wanted me back, I didn't feel relief. I felt nothing. Even after he threw his body over mine to save me from a collapsing building, taking a jagged shard of timber through his chest, I couldn't forgive him. In the hospital, his mother handed me his journal. It was filled with entries about his undying love for me, written on the very same days he allowed me to be tortured. "Tell him the debt is paid," I told his mother as I handed the book back. "He saved my life. I saved his child. We are even." I turned my back on the ICU and walked out into the rain. Dante Moretti might have been willing to die for me, but he never knew how to live for me.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.
