Chapter 1 1

THIRD POV

"I want your daughter as a guarantee of cooperation between our packs." He said.

"Sure, you can take Samara with you." As Alpha Liam said, while pushing Samara who was smiling widely with excitement towards Zade. "She is my most precious daughter, and very worthy to be with you."

"Not her." Zade shook his head, and immediately glanced at Meira who was standing far away from the three of them there.

"I want your other daughter. I want her. Meira Hill."

Zade's words instantly made Alpha Liam and Samara's faces change completely. What started out as a look of excitement and confidence turned into a look of emotion, and a deep frown on each of their foreheads. Samara looked back and gave Meira a hateful look. As for Meira, she looked incredulous with her eyes widened, and lips opened, she felt shocked by what Zade had just said there.

"I only want Meira Hill." Zade said once again seriously.

"But, Alpha Zade, Meira is just an ordinary wolf. She can't shift. She's not that special to be with you. She is not worthy at all." Alpha Liam spoke with a confused, disbelieving look on his face all rolled into one.

"Meira is clearly different from Samara." Alpha Liam put his arm around Samara again, and seemed to show Samara to Zade once more. Samara immediately looked at Zade with hope.

"Samara is an extraordinary wolf. She's very special. Even more better than Meira. And definitely, you won't regret having Samara with you."

"Like I said. I just want Meira Hill. No one else. If you don't agree, then I'd better go, and cancel all forms of cooperation that our pack has." Zade got up and prepared to leave them.

"Even if there is only your beloved daughter left in this world, then I would never want her as collateral. And you know what I can do with a pack that does not abide by my wishes for pack cooperation."

"Alright!" Zade's steps were instantly halted when Alpha Liam shouted. Zade turned around, and looked at Alpha Liam standing there.

"Alright. If that's what you want, then you can take Meira with you now."

Hearing that, instantly made Zade smile a little, and also looked very satisfied with the decision that Alpha Liam had just made now. "Dad?" Samara whispered to Alpha Liam in displeasure.

Samara grasped Alpha Liam's arm tightly, and tried not to let Meira go together with Zade. As for Meira, she didn't expect her father to immediately agree to what she thought was crazy and what Zade wanted now.

"But I disagree." With a courage that seemed to come out of nowhere, Meira walked straight up to Alpha Liam, Zade, and Samara there.

"Dad, please, don't agree to that. I don't want to leave from here. This is my home. I also don't want to be a guarantee of that cooperation." Meira looked at Alpha Liam pleadingly.

Although she knew that her father had never once wanted to listen to her, or even hear her voice or see her. But Meira really hoped that the agreement would not happen.

"It would be better if you cancel the guarantee." Meira looked annoyed at Zade who looked calm in front of her now.

"Don't be silly, Meira!" Alpha Liam's jolt instantly made Meira look back at him in surprise. So did Samara.

"Alpha Zade has already made up his mind, so there's no fighting it. Go to your room quickly, and pack up all your belongings. Then leave together with Alpha Zade."

"But Dad... please... don't do this to me." Meira tried to grab Alpha Liam's arm, but was immediately stopped when Alpha Liam looked at Meira with a very sharp look.

Then without saying anything, Alpha Liam immediately grasped Meira's arm tightly, and pulled Meira towards his room. Meira's steps shuffled, following her father's steps. As for Samara, she was holding back the frustration she was feeling right now. Samara's desire to be able to have Zade vanished instantly. And Zade, he sat quietly on the sofa again. Samara turned around and left Zade alone there.

Arriving at the room, Alpha Liam released his grip on Meira very tightly. That immediately made Meira pushed into her room. "Don't ever dare to contradict my words in front of others. You should know, that I myself also don't wish for Alpha Zade to want you. The greatest Alpha seems much more appropriate to be with Samara. Even if it is a guarantee. Because I'm sure, if Alpha Zade will behave very well. And who would have thought, if Alpha Zade could have married Samara. But he didn't. He chose you instead."

Alpha Liam pointed at Meira. "You don't even deserve or worthy enough for anyone in this world."

"But what did I do wrong? I never did anything wrong. I always obeyed your words, and hoped that someday you would be able to love me as much as you loved Samara. Why is Samara the only one you love?" Meira clenched her palms together tightly.

"I don't want to be the guarantee of cooperation that you and Alpha Zade have. All these years I've been living here, just like the omegas, even though I'm your daughter. Your first daughter. Then if I go with Alpha Zade, I will definitely be treated the same way or maybe worse, the way you guys treated me all these years."

"That's even better! I just realized that I should have given you to any pack that wanted you a long time ago. And I don't care about you anymore. You make me so sick." Alpha Liam walked away from Meira, and prepared to leave the room.

"Even if you die or remain an omega, I won't care about you. Pack up all your things, and leave with Alpha Zade. Because you have no place in this pack anymore."

"Why do you hate me so much?" Meira's question instantly stopped Alpha Liam in his tracks.

"All this time, all these years I never once asked why you hated me. But I want to know now. Since I have no place here anymore, then tell me why you hate me so much?"

"Because you are the reason my wife is gone. Had I known that you were born different, then I wouldn't have let my wife carry you, and forced to give birth to you. At the very least, my wife would still be alive with me, even if we had no heir." After saying that, without looking back, Alpha Liam immediately left the room, leaving Meira speechless now.

Bruk

Meira collapsed onto the floor with a tightness in her chest. "So that's the reason why father hates me so much. I never asked even once. If I had known about all those things from the start, I would never have stayed here, I would have just walked away."

Meira covered her face with both palms and cried. "I will leave. I will definitely go away. Until father and everyone in this pack will never be able to see me at all."

***

"So? Where's my guarantee?" Zade looked coldly at Alpha Liam who was sitting right in front of him now.

"Meira will be here soon, after she finishes organizing all her belongings." Alpha Liam replied briefly. The facial expression even still looked hardened, and was holding back emotions now. But his lips seemed to have been locked very tightly.

Shortly after, Meira arrived with a suitcase and a sizable bag, which she slung over her right shoulder. Meira looked flatly at Alpha Liam, and also Zade there. Meira looked exhausted, and did not say anything to them. Zade stood up immediately, as did Alpha Liam.

"Logan, bring Meira's bag and suitcase to the car." Zade said to Logan, his beta.

Logan nodded his head vaguely, and immediately took over Meira's bag and suitcase, and carried them out. Meira remained silent, as if she was daydreaming, and didn't want to care about the things happening around her right now. Zade walked over to Meira, and looked at her without saying anything.

"I'll send you our pack agreement tomorrow." Zade muttered without taking his eyes off Meira there.

"Of course, Alpha Zade. I am happy to cooperate with your great pack." Alpha Liam smiled.

"Hopefully, Meira won't give you any trouble. As a guarantee, you can do anything to her." Alpha Liam looked flatly at Meira who was still staring blankly ahead.

Zade had no response to Alpha Liam's words, and simply nodded his head. After that, Zade grabbed Meira's arm, and pulled her slowly out of the pack. Meira complied. Outside the pack, Logan, Zade's beta had already put Meira's suitcase and bag in the trunk. Zade opened the car door and let Meira into the car. Meira let out her breath slowly. Her eyes were starting to look teary, but she tried to keep the tears from falling.

Zade got into the car from the other side, as did Logan who sat at the wheel. Zade glanced at Meira who was averting her gaze, looking outside the car. Meira looked at her pack. She felt like getting angry right now. But she realized, that she didn't even have the slightest right about the life path she had. Meira was just following the flow of life that was going nowhere. Meira's clenched fists were even stronger, and Zade realized that. Zade averted his eyes as Logan started the car.

"If you have something to say to me, then say it now. While you're already leaving the pack on your father's orders." He muttered.

Meira gave a small glance at Zade who wasn't even looking at her there. Then she sighed once more. Anger, disappointment, resentment, and sadness were all mixed up inside her right now. To the point where it felt like Meira had no idea what to say or what to feel right now.

"What for?" Meira whispered in the end. Zade turned his head towards Meira who was no longer looking out of the car, and instead looked straight at her.

"Isn't this what you wanted after all? Taking advantage of a pack that is much weaker than your great pack." Meira glanced back at Zade for a moment, not wanting to look fully at him there.

"There have been many stories about you, and I believe that they are all true now. You always get everything you want, don't you? So why would I say anything to you?" A single tear fell down Meira's cheek, and with a quick movement, she wiped it away.

"I'm just a guarantee of the partnership that you and my father have. And I know and also understand very well what limits I have now." Meira bit her lip, holding back the sob that was about to escape her lips.

"So, you don't have to worry at all. I won't cause any trouble for you and your pack. You won't even be able to see me there, if that's what you want. I will carry out all the tasks you give me."

After saying all those things, Meira paused again for a moment, and looked back out. "I will be the shadow in your pack."

Zade frowned slightly, but his lips didn't want to say anything. Zade fell silent, and averted his eyes. During the ride, both Zade and Meira were silent. They were both busy with their own thoughts right now.

I sat on the cold tile floor of our Upper East Side penthouse, staring at the two pink lines until my vision blurred. After ten years of loving Julian Sterling and three years of a hollow marriage, I finally had the one thing that could bridge the distance between us. I was pregnant. But Julian didn't come home with flowers for our anniversary. He tossed a thick manila envelope onto the marble coffee table with a heavy thud. Fiona, the woman he'd truly loved for years, was back in New York, and he told me our "business deal" was officially over. "Sign it," He said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion. He looked at me with the cold detachment of a man selling a piece of unwanted furniture. When I hesitated, he told me to add a zero to the alimony if the money wasn't enough. I realized in that moment that if he knew about the baby, he wouldn't love me; he would simply take my child and give it to Fiona to raise. I shoved the pregnancy test into my pocket, signed the papers with a shaking hand, and lied through my teeth. When my morning sickness hit, I slumped to the floor to hide the truth. "It's just cramps," I gasped, watching him recoil as if I were contagious. To make him stay away, I invented a man named Jack-a fake boyfriend who supposedly gave me the kindness Julian never could. Suddenly, the man who wanted me gone became a monster of possessiveness. He threatened to "bury" a man who didn't exist while leaving me humiliated at his family's dinner to rush to Fiona's side. I was so broken that I even ate a cake I was deathly allergic to, then had to refuse life-saving steroids at the hospital because they would harm the fetus. Julian thinks he's stalling the divorce for two months to protect the family's reputation for his father's Jubilee. He thinks he's keeping his "property" on a short leash until the press dies down. He has no idea I'm using those sixty days to build a fortress for my child. By the time he realizes the truth, I'll be gone, and the Sterling heir will be far beyond his reach.

I died on a Tuesday. It wasn't a quick death. It was slow, cold, and meticulously planned by the man who called himself my father. I was twenty years old. He needed my kidney to save my sister. The spare part for the golden child. I remember the blinding lights of the operating theater, the sterile smell of betrayal, and the phantom pain of a surgeon's scalpel carving into my flesh while my screams echoed unheard. I remember looking through the observation glass and seeing him-my father, Giovanni Vitiello, the Don of the Chicago Outfit-watching me die with the same detached expression he used when signing a death warrant. He chose her. He always chose her. And then, I woke up. Not in heaven. Not in hell. But in my own bed, a year before my scheduled execution. My body was whole, unscarred. The timeline had reset, a glitch in the cruel matrix of my existence, giving me a second chance I never asked for. This time, when my father handed me a one-way ticket to London-an exile disguised as a severance package-I didn't cry. I didn't beg. My heart, once a bleeding wound, was now a block of ice. He didn't know he was talking to a ghost. He didn't know I had already lived through his ultimate betrayal. He also didn't know that six months ago, during the city's brutal territory wars, I was the one who saved his most valuable asset. In a secret safe house, I stitched up the wounds of a blinded soldier, a man whose life hung by a thread. He never saw my face. He only knew my voice, the scent of vanilla, and the steady touch of my hands. He called me Sette. Seven. For the seven stitches I put in his shoulder. That man was Dante Moretti. The Ruthless Capo. The man my sister, Isabella, is now set to marry. She stole my story. She claimed my actions, my voice, my scent. And Dante, the man who could spot a lie from a mile away, believed the beautiful deception because he wanted it to be true. He wanted the golden girl to be his savior, not the invisible sister who was only ever good for her spare parts. So I took the ticket. In my past life, I fought them, and they silenced me on an operating table. This time, I will let them have their perfect, gilded lie. I will go to London. I will disappear. I will let Seraphina Vitiello die on that plane. But I will not be a victim. This time, I will not be the lamb led to slaughter. This time, from the shadows of my exile, I will be the one holding the match. And I will wait, with the patience of the dead, to watch their entire world burn. Because a ghost has nothing to lose, and a queen of ashes has an empire to gain.
