I was the lowest Omega in the Blood Moon Pack, forced to scrub greasy floors while enduring the daily abuse and kicks of the Warriors. On the night of Alpha Kael's succession ball, the fated mate bond suddenly snapped into place between us. The powerful, ruthless Alpha had found his destined Luna, and it was me, the dirty scullery maid hiding behind the curtains. But the magical peace of our bond lasted only seconds before reality crashed down. Faced with the disgusted whispers of the nobles and the political threats from his Gamma, Kael chose his power over me. He dragged me to the center of the grand hall and publicly rejected me. "I, Kael, Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, reject you, Elara, as my mate." The violently severed bond felt like crushed glass in my lungs, snapping my soul in half and leaving me coughing up dark blood on the pristine marble. Surrounded by mocking eyes and an unnatural chill, I dragged my broken body out into the freezing, fog-filled Shadow Forest to die. I didn't understand why the Moon Goddess would give me a protector only to let him become my cruel executioner. Why was I destined to be nothing more than a pathetic, disposable Omega meant to be trampled on? But as three feral Rogues lunged to tear my throat out under the midnight moon, the searing agony in my veins suddenly vanished. I didn't shift into a weak Omega wolf. Bathed in a blinding, divine light, my body expanded into a towering, flawless White Wolf. Looking at my massive silver reflection in the water, I made a silent vow. I was no longer a servant, and I would make them all kneel.

Chapter 1

Elara POV

The brackish water in my wooden pail sloshed over its rim, seeping a familiar chill into the coarse fabric at my knees.

The black flagstones were slick not with polish, but with a film of grease and spilled ale. Between them, the grout had worn away, and the accumulated filth in these crevices-a caustic mix of lye and wastewater-gnawed at the cracked skin around my fingernails.

This was the Blood Moon Pack castle, a towering Gothic fortress hidden deep within the fog of the Shadow Forest.

And I was an Omega.

The lowest of the low. A convenient target for the Warriors who now loomed over me, their laughter a harsh bark as a heavy leather boot struck my pail, sending a fresh tide of grime across the stones I had just cleared.

Loud laughter echoed above me.

I kept my head bowed, my gaze fixed on the polished black leather of their boots.

They were the fighters, massive men who enjoyed reminding me of my place.

I said nothing, merely righted the pail and resumed my work, the rhythmic scraping of bristles on stone the only reply I offered.

*I had been told my whole life that I was nothing. The girl who scrubbed the black flagstones until her knuckles bled. The girl whose own reflection in the soapy water sometimes flickered with a faint, silvery sheen-a trick of the moonlight through the high windows, I told myself. A foolish hope, nothing more. But tonight, something in the air felt different. *

Hours of labor passed in a dull haze of aching muscles and the biting scent of lye. Tonight was the succession ball.

Outside the high arched windows, the flickering yellow light of gaslamps cut through the thick forest mist.

Elegant horse-drawn carriages arrived one by one, bringing noble families from neighboring territories.

The women wore tight, heavy corsets and wide skirts, while the men were dressed in dark, embroidered tailcoats.

They were here for Alpha Kael.

He was taking over the pack tonight, and he was looking for his Luna.

As an Omega, I was strictly forbidden from entering the grand hall during the celebration.

But I could not resist the music.

I found refuge in the narrow, unlit corridor on the second floor, crouching behind a set of heavy, dust-scented velvet drapes.

I peeked through the fabric, watching the beautiful people dance under the crystal chandeliers.

Through the painted glass window, the light of the full moon touched my skin.

A sudden, violent heat ignited deep within my marrow. My breathing grew ragged, and my skin prickled with an uncontrollable fever, a deep thrumming settling low in my belly that clouded all thought with a raw, primal urgency. The pulse in my throat hammered against my collarbone like a trapped bird.

I was turning eighteen at midnight.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the grand hall slammed open.

The music stopped instantly.

Alpha Kael walked into the room.

He did not simply walk; he commanded the very air he displaced. A palpable weight settled over the room, a suffocating pressure that bent the will and forced every wolf present to bow their heads in a display of instinctual submission.

The entire hall fell into a dead silence.

Right at that moment, a cold draft of wind blew from the open corridor window behind me, sweeping down the grand staircase.

It picked up my scent and carried it down into the hall.

Kael froze.

His broad shoulders tensed under his dark tailcoat.

He lifted his head, taking a deep breath of the air.

To him, my scent was not just a smell.

It was the scent of rain mixed with night blooming jasmine.

Kael's human eyes vanished, replaced by a glowing, predatory gold.

A deep, possessive roar echoed from his chest, a sound made by his inner beast.

"Mine!"

The word shook the glass in the windows.

He ignored the beautiful noble women around him and marched directly toward the grand staircase.

He followed the invisible trail of rain and jasmine.

I trembled behind the velvet drapes, trying to back away, but my body was too weak from the fever.

A large, strong hand gripped the red fabric and tore it aside.

Kael stood over me, his golden eyes locked onto my terrified face.

He reached down and grabbed my dirty, shivering wrist.

The moment his skin met mine, a current, sharp and vital as a lightning strike, shot up the length of my arm. Every nerve, long dormant and numb, fired at once. The hollow ache that had been my constant companion simply ceased to be. In that singular, breath-stealing instant, the world resolved into a sharp, undeniable focus, and a sense of belonging so profound it stole the air from my lungs left me utterly whole.

I looked up at him, breathless and dizzy.

The noble crowd below gasped in pure shock.

The high and mighty Alpha had just found his destined mate.

And she was the lowest, dirtiest Omega in the castle.

*But as his fingers tightened around my wrist, I saw something shift in his golden eyes. The beast's possession warred with something else-something cold and calculating. And in that flicker, the first crack appeared in the perfect, sacred bond the Moon Goddess had forged. *
