I took a calming breath, feeling my nerves go down, just in time too. The door opened with a soft click, making a creaking, grating sound as it swung open. In came the heavy footsteps, and then the sound of the door closing again. I reined in my growing panic, reminding myself that this wasn't the first time and that nothing was going to happen. I wouldn't give whoever it was this time the pleasure of making me pained and disturbed. I listened to the sound of footsteps as it approached, listening intently for the pattern of feet, before releasing a shuddering breath in relief when I recognized who the intruder was. Kyle. He shuffled a bit closer to my bed and leaned forward, his hand briefly touched the edge of my bed for a second longer than usual, before he withdrew completely. Like I knew he would. He lingered around the room, shuffling around as if he didn't know what to do. Then I felt him walk over the couch where I had carelessly discarded the simple cotton dress I wore today. I cringed immediately, knowing where his thoughts went as I cursed internally at my foolishness for leaving anything of mine out. Despite it being my room.
