I was hired to be the "cure" for the Stuart family's reputation, a wife whose only job was to manage the emotional risks of Casper Stuart's cold-blooded empire. My life was governed by spreadsheets and compliance reports, and my value was measured solely by my ability to remain a silent, perfect asset. On our second anniversary, Casper didn't come home for dinner; instead, a Page Six alert showed him with a Victoria's Secret model at Soho House, his hand possessively on her back. When he finally returned, he didn't offer an apology, but a clinical reminder of my "obligations." I soon discovered he had given my three-million-dollar anniversary bonus-a pink diamond necklace-to his mistress, while tossing me a cheap bracelet his assistant had picked out. When his mother offered me a two-hundred-million-dollar settlement to disappear, Casper tore the contract to shreds in front of me. He whispered that he had bought up every cent of my family's medical and gambling debts, turning my marriage into a life sentence of indentured servitude. To prove his power, he kicked me out of his car in a rainstorm twenty miles from the city, leaving me to walk home barefoot while he drove off with my dog. "Tell her you want to stay," he had commanded in front of his mother, using my mother's life as leverage to keep his "portfolio" intact. I stood in the mud, shivering as the rain washed away the mask of the supportive wife, realizing that to the Stuarts, I wasn't a human being-I was a line item that could be liquidated or crushed at will. But Casper forgot one thing: I am an actress, and I've finally landed the role of a lifetime. I'm done managing his risks; I'm about to become his greatest liability.

Contract Bride: Rising From The Shadows Chapter 1 No.1

The tip of Dosha Young's finger did not tremble as it hovered over the iPad screen. It was a steady, practiced movement, the kind she used to employ when memorizing a script, but tonight, there were no lines to learn. There was only the jagged red line of a candlestick chart.

Stuart Holdings. Ticker symbol: STU.

The stock was down 5.4 percent in after-hours trading.

A notification banner slid down from the top of the screen, obscuring the financial data. It was a push alert from Page Six. The headline was bold and unapologetic: Heir Apparent Casper Stuart Spotted at Soho House with Victoria's Secret Angel Sienna. Is the Honeymoon Over?

Dosha stared at the pixelated image. It was grainy, taken in low light, but the posture was unmistakable. Casper had his hand on the small of the woman's back. It was a possessive grip. She knew that grip. It was the same way he held a fountain pen before signing a merger acquisition.

She didn't feel a pang in her chest. She didn't feel the sting of tears. She felt the cold calculation of a risk manager. This was precisely the kind of emotional volatility her predecessor, the late Elara Vance, had embodied-the kind that had nearly cost the Stuarts their empire. Dosha was hired to be the opposite of Elara. She was the cure.

She took a screenshot.

She opened a secure folder labeled Risk Assessment and dropped the image inside. It landed next to sixteen other files.

Her phone buzzed against the mahogany surface of the desk. The caller ID flashed Harper.

Dosha tapped the speaker icon and set the phone down, her eyes never leaving the stock chart.

"He is a walking phallus," Harper's voice crackled through the speaker, breathless and loud. "I saw the photos, Dosha. I am literally shaking. How does he have the audacity? It is your second anniversary."

Dosha opened an Excel spreadsheet. Under the column marked PR Crisis, she typed: Sienna: Incident No. 17.

"He doesn't have audacity, Harper. He has leverage," Dosha said. Her voice was flat, stripped of the cadence she used to use on stage. "And a very good legal team."

"You are human, Dosha! You are allowed to be angry. You are allowed to throw a vase against the wall."

"Vases cost money. Anger costs energy." Dosha highlighted the cell in red. "As long as he doesn't get Sienna pregnant, my quarterly distribution from the grandfather's trust fund remains secure. A pregnancy would trigger the Morality Clause in the trust. That affects my bottom line."

There was a silence on the other end of the line. It lasted two full seconds.

"God," Harper whispered. "You sound like a calculator. When did you become a calculator?"

"When I realized tears don't pay off bankruptcy creditors."

Dosha hung up.

She stood and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. The glass was cold against her forehead. Below, Central Park was a black void in the center of the glowing city. It was 7:55 PM.

The Anniversary Review Dinner was scheduled for 8:00 PM.

She turned and walked into the dining room. The long table was set for two. There were no candles. There were no flowers. Instead, a bound document sat on her placemat: Annual Performance & Compliance Report.

The elevator chimed in the foyer.

Dosha smoothed the silk of her lounge wear. She adjusted her expression, pulling up the corners of her mouth into a pleasant, neutral curve. It was the face of a supportive wife. It was the face of a woman who didn't ask questions.

But it wasn't Casper who walked in.

It was Liam. Casper's personal assistant looked like he had run up the forty flights of stairs. His tie was crooked. He stood on the marble of the foyer, hesitating before stepping onto the plush rug, as if his shoes might contaminate the silence.

He was holding a bag with the Cartier logo embossed in gold.

"Mrs. Stuart," Liam said. He wouldn't meet her eyes. He looked at a point somewhere over her left shoulder. "Mr. Stuart... Casper... he has been detained. An urgent international conference call came in. The Tokyo markets."

Dosha watched Liam's throat bob as he swallowed. It was a tell. The micro-expression of a man paid to lie but not paid enough to enjoy it.

"Tokyo," Dosha repeated. She kept the smile fixed. "Is the conference taking place at Soho House? Is Sienna facilitating the merger?"

Liam flinched. Sweat beaded on his upper lip. He extended his arm, thrusting the red bag toward her like a shield.

"This is for you. From Mr. Stuart. For the occasion."

Dosha didn't move to take it. She looked at the bag, then at the cold plates of food on the table.

"Put it on the table," she said. "And take the document next to the plate. I need his signature on page four. My KPIs for the year have been met. Remind him to authorize the wire transfer."

Liam looked relieved to have a task. He set the bag down and snatched up the report. He turned to flee.

"Liam."

He froze, his hand on the elevator button.

Dosha gestured to the table. "If you haven't eaten, take the food. It's Michelin three-star catering. It would be a waste to throw it out."

Liam looked at her, really looked at her, for the first time. He looked horrified. He muttered a thank you and the elevator doors slid shut, sealing him out.

The smile dropped from Dosha's face instantly. It was like a power outage.

She walked to the table and opened the red box. A diamond bracelet glittered under the recessed lighting. It was delicate, expensive, and completely impersonal. It was the kind of jewelry a man bought when he told his assistant to "get something for a woman."

She walked to the sideboard and opened a drawer. It was filled with velvet boxes. Necklaces, earrings, brooches. None of them had ever been worn. She tossed the bracelet inside and shut the drawer with a soft click.

She picked up her iPad. She opened a message thread with her agent.

Get me that voiceover work for the animated feature. The NDA is ironclad. I need the cash.

Her phone buzzed. A text from Casper.

Read.

Two words. No apology. No explanation. Just an acknowledgment that he had received the digital copy of the report she had emailed him earlier.

Dosha stared at the screen until the backlight dimmed. She typed back.

Received. Pleasure doing business with you.

I was suffocating in a borrowed Valentino gown at the Met Gala, but it wasn't the corset that was killing me. It was the debt collector, Vargo, stalking me through the crowd like a wolf. Desperate to hide, I ducked into a private lounge and threw myself at the silhouette of a man sitting in the shadows, pressing my lips to his in a frantic plea for cover. When I pulled back, the air turned to ice; I was staring into the ocean-blue eyes of Kingsley Osborn, the billionaire who believed I’d sold his company secrets six years ago. Kingsley didn’t save me; he trapped me. The next morning, he slid a "Marriage Service Agreement" across his desk, revealing he knew everything about my father’s illegal Ponzi scheme and the quarter-million dollars I owed to loan sharks. He offered to pay my debts and protect my father, but only if I signed over two years of my life to be his trophy wife. "I don't want your money, Cassidy. I want your life." The marriage was a cold, calculated war. He forced me into his glass fortress, banned me from contacting my friends, and treated me with a distilled hatred that felt like a physical weight. When I accidentally broke his grandfather’s vintage watch during a nightmare, he didn't see an accident—he saw a crime, threatening to destroy my father if I didn't "charm" his board of directors into submission. I was a prisoner in a three-piece suit, until I found a mislabeled file buried in his company’s server. It contained evidence of a massive, illegal hostile takeover that would ruin Kingsley if the Feds ever saw it. I held the gun that could destroy the man who had cornered me. But as I looked at the champagne roses he’d secretly kept from my "peace offering," I realized I didn't want to pull the trigger. I wanted to see how far he’d go to keep me from leaving.

I was the crown jewel of the Harmon family until the trust fund froze and my world turned to ash. Now, I’m just a girl in a vintage dress I can’t afford, standing in a crowded club, waiting to destroy the man who thinks he owns me. Everything changed when my ex-fiancé, Carter Sterling, didn't just break our engagement, but blocked the money meant for my brother’s medical care. He wanted to see me crawl back to him, broken and desperate, so he could remind me that I was nothing without his name. I didn't crawl; I staged a masterpiece of a breakdown. I shattered glass, screamed about his cruelty, and cowered on the floor until the entire city saw him as the monster he truly was. Carter’s reputation was dead within minutes, but the victory felt hollow because I was still penniless and alone in the cold rain. I realized that in this world, being a victim is just a role you play until you’re strong enough to become the villain. I was tired of being hunted by dogs like Carter, and I knew the only way to survive was to walk straight into the lion’s den. I stood at the iron gates of the Grimes estate, soaked to the bone and clutching a secret that could bring the city to its knees. Isadore Grimes is a man who eats people like Carter for breakfast, and I didn't come to him for mercy. "I’m not here for your money," I told him as the security cameras zoomed in on my face. "I'm here to offer you a better deal than your fiancée ever could." I wasn't just planning to get my inheritance back. I was going to steal the life of the woman who tried to destroy me, one calculated move at a time.

A faint blue line on a pregnancy test confirmed the dream I' d nurtured for four years: twins. I, Sarah Miller, an architect, was about to surprise Mark Johnson, the man I loved, the man who had pulled me from the wreckage of grief after my parents' suspicious death, the man whose real estate empire I had meticulously helped build. But when I reached the exclusive downtown club, laughter spilled from the private room, and a voice asked, "When are you and Lisa Chen making it official?" My world shattered as Mark' s confident voice, stripped of all warmth, replied, "Sarah? Sarah was a means to an end. A very useful tool." Then came the true horror: "She has no idea I was the one who made sure that old farmhouse of hers had a little electrical \'accident.\' Best investment I ever made." He killed them. The man I loved, my savior, was my parents' murderer. Everything I believed was a lie. The twins I carried, conceived in a deceit, were just leverage for him, a means to an heir Lisa couldn' t provide. The overwhelming betrayal, coupled with a searing pain in my abdomen, sent my vision blurring. I stumbled out into the cold, hard rain, racing toward my parents' graves, only to collapse in a pool of blood. The hospital confirmed my worst fear: I had lost the babies. I lay there, numb and broken, until a nurse revealed my unlikely rescuer: David Johnson, Mark' s estranged uncle, the man Mark had ruthlessly driven out of his own family business. He was the one who collected my cracked phone, its wallpaper a perfect picture of a perfect lie, with his stern, disapproving gaze in the background – a witness I had always ignored. This man, haunted by the same demon, would become my unlikely ally. Mark had taken everything from me: my parents, my children, my name, my work. Now, I would take it all back.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.
