After rebirth, Kaylee woke drugged and stumbled into the room of the most dangerous man in the city. One reckless night tied their fates together, and though she recognized him as her childhood friend, she chose to pretend otherwise, determined to use his power for revenge. Yet while she thought she was pulling the strings, he had already been protecting her from the shadows. When her adopted sister tried to burn her alive, he arrived in time, his fury terrifying. "Anyone who dares touch her will pay with their life." He had always known-she was the girl he never forgot.

Reborn Into His Arms: One Night With The Obsessive Devil Chapter 1 Where Did You Get This

"This mess is on you..."

Kaylee Harris trembled. The searing warmth of the broad hand stretched across her waist sent violent shudders through her, even as she fought against the solid body holding her down against the mattress.

The man's heated breath washed over her skin. His mouth moved from hers, dragging slowly along until it reached the soft curve of her throat, where he grazed and bit.

With the drug flooding her bloodstream and the dizzying pull of his scent clouding her senses, her thoughts unraveled into a fog. Pinned within his iron hold, she slipped helplessly between awareness and darkness.

She had never foreseen anything like this. After dying in flames at the hands of that monster, her fiance Declan Edwards, inside what was supposed to be their new home after they got married, she had come back-thrown into the past at the very instant Joyce Harris had slipped something into her drink. While having an affair with her fiance, that vile woman had also thrown her into the bed of some disgusting director and destroy her name beyond repair.

Kaylee had succeeded in knocking the creep out cold and escaping, only to wander blindly into this stranger's room in her dazed state.

Could it be that, even after being given another life, she still had no control over where her path led?

"Don't... don't lay a hand on me," she breathed out weakly. Her hands pressed against the man's chest, trying uselessly to push him away.

Yet the man ignored every word. His hold snapped tighter, and his knee forced its way between her legs without effort.

A sudden, strange pain ripped through her as his long fingers clamped firmly around her waist. Any hint of restraint he might have had vanished in an instant, replaced by something fierce and unrelenting.

With no strength left in her body, Kaylee was unable to resist. She had no choice but to let him draw her closer, enduring the relentless, unrestrained pace he set.

By the time the surge of intensity finally died down, the sky beyond the towering windows had begun to soften with the faint light of early morning.

Utterly drained, Kaylee could not so much as lift a finger. She sank into an uneasy, heavy sleep against his chest.

......

"You've got some nerve." A shadowed, deadly tone cleaved through the stillness.

Before Kaylee could properly surface from sleep, icy fingers locked hard around her neck.

The sudden flare of agony and the sharp deprivation of breath jolted her awake. Her gaze collided head-on with a face that was striking in a way that felt almost sinister.

Her back stiffened instantly when she noticed the tiny mark beneath his eye, along with the unfathomable intensity in his razor-sharp stare.

Why was it him?

As the hazy, heated fragments of the previous night surged back with brutal clarity, a wave of cold fear seeped into her bones. This man was Caden Lloyd-the head of the Lloyd Group, and the terrifyingly influential figure Joyce had once paraded as her so-called "protector" in Kaylee's former life.

Piecing it together in her mind, Kaylee realized that, back then, it had been not long after this very incident that Caden hosted a grand banquet. He had summoned the entirety of Olissey's upper crust to formally present Joyce as someone within the Lloyd family's inner ranks.

If events were unfolding the same way, then their connection must have already been established.

In that past life, Joyce had basked under Caden's absolute protection. No one had ever dared oppose her. With his limitless backing and endless chances, she had risen straight to the top tier of the entertainment world in just half a year.

At the same time, Kaylee had been cast aside and erased, driven into the shadows, coerced into marrying that worthless scum, Declan, only to be killed on the very night of her wedding.

"Mr. Lloyd, what happened last night was a mix-up. I was drugged... and that's how I ended up in your room."

Kaylee pressed her nails deep into her palms, anchoring herself as she struggled to stay steady, even while her heart pounded violently against her chest.

Caden was not someone anyone would risk offending. The Lloyd family already stood at the very summit of high society, and after he took control, Caden had wiped out internal divisions with ruthless precision. His reputation for brutality was well known.

And beyond that... he was completely out of reach. Over the years, countless women had tried to plot their way into his bed. Every one of them had disappeared without a trace.

"Oh? How neatly that lines up!" A harsh smile tugged at Caden's mouth, his eyes stripped of any trace of warmth. "Who was it that drugged you?"

He knew exactly who he was holding. Kaylee Harris-his nephew Declan's betrothed.

Kaylee parted her lips, but no sound followed. She didn't dare name Joyce. Even if Caden chose to believe her, with his ties to that woman, he would most likely treat Kaylee as nothing more than a problem to eliminate just so he could shield Joyce.

"Nothing to say?"

Mistaking her silence for guilt, the frost in Caden's expression deepened, and his hold on her throat grew even tighter.

As air became painfully scarce, Kaylee instinctively scratched at his iron grip.

Her voice came out fractured, thin and strained, as the silver bracelet on her wrist brushed against the back of his hand. "I really... was drugged..."

Caden's eyes dropped abruptly, locking onto the bracelet as if frozen in place.

Before Kaylee could even choke out another word, the suffocating pressure at her throat disappeared. Caden caught her wrist instead, dragging it closer as he examined the piece with a chilling, focused intensity.

"This," he said, his voice sinking into a dangerously quiet register. "Where did you get it?"

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

The heavy thud of the release stamp was the only goodbye I got from the warden after five years in federal prison. I stepped out into the blinding sun, expecting the same flash of paparazzi bulbs that had seen me dragged away in handcuffs, but there was only a single black limousine idling on the shoulder of the road. Inside sat my mother and sister, clutching champagne and looking at my frayed coat with pure disgust. They didn't offer a welcome home; instead, they tossed a thick legal document onto the table and told me I was dead to the city. "Gavin and I are getting engaged," my sister Mia sneered, flicking a credit card at me like I was a stray dog. "He doesn't need a convict ex-fiancée hanging around." Even after I saved their lives from an armed kidnapping attempt by ramming the attackers off the road, they rewarded me by leaving me stranded in the dirt. When I finally ran into Gavin, the man who had framed me, he pinned me against a wall and threatened to send me back to a cell if I ever dared to show my face at their wedding. They had stolen my biotech research, ruined my name, and let me rot for half a decade while they lived off my brilliance. They thought they had broken me, leaving me with nothing but an expired chapstick and a few old photos in a plastic bag. What they didn't know was that I had spent those five years becoming "Dr. X," a shadow consultant with five hundred million dollars in crypto and a secret that would bring the city to its knees. I wasn't just a victim anymore; I was a weapon, and I was pregnant with the heir they thought they had erased. I walked into the Melton estate and made an offer to the most powerful man in New York. "I'll save your grandfather's life," I told Horatio Melton, staring him down. "But the price is your last name. I'm taking back what's mine, and I'm starting with the man who thinks he's marrying my sister."
