Six years ago, I was tied to a cold metal chair in an abandoned warehouse, staring in disbelief at my fiancé and my half-sister. They didn't just steal the medical patent I spent countless nights perfecting. They sneeringly revealed that my fiancé had never touched me, and the baby I was carrying actually belonged another person, whom they had drugged me to sleep with. To cover up their conspiracy and steal my inheritance, my half-sister poured gasoline over my body. My fiancé tossed a lighter, and I screamed in pure agony as the wall of fire swallowed me. I watched them walk away arm in arm without a single glance back. I barely survived, crawling out of the burning hell with my skin charred and my identity reduced to ashes. For six agonizing years, I endured brutal surgeries to reconstruct my face, living like a ghost in the shadows. I couldn't fathom how the people I loved could be so monstrous, leaving me to burn while they basked in the glory of my stolen achievements. But they didn't know I crawled out of that inferno. Today, I stepped into their sprawling estate with a new face, signing a contract to marry that very same comatose man-My fianc é's uncle. I am going to wake my husband, rescue my blind son, and drag my murderers straight to hell.

Rising From Fire: The Betrayed Wife's Return Chapter 1 Flames of Betrayal

"Julian, let me go."

Her voice was a dry rasp, torn by dehydration. Rain hammered against the tin roof of the warehouse, a frantic drumbeat in the suffocating darkness.

A flash of lightning split the sky, illuminating Elara Vance's face for a brief, cruel moment. It was pale, streaked with grime, her cheekbone already showing a dark bruise. She was bound to a cold metal chair, the chains digging into her wrists until they were raw.

She lifted her head, her gaze locking onto the two figures standing before her. They were pristine, untouched by the filth of the abandoned pier. Her fiancé, Julian Kensington, and her half-sister, Lila Vance.

"What is this?" Elara demanded, pulling against her restraints. The metal links bit deeper. "Lila, why are you with him?"

Lila let out a theatrical laugh. The sound scraped against Elara's raw nerves. She glided forward, her perfectly manicured nails catching the dim light as she seized Elara's chin.

"My dear sister," Lila cooed, her voice dripping with venom. "Haven't you figured it out yet?"

Julian remained silent, standing back in the shadows. He was rubbing the heavy signet ring on his pinky finger, a habit he had when closing a deal. His eyes, which once held a warmth she'd mistaken for love, were now chillingly empty. Just cold, hard calculation.

Lila shoved Elara's head back and snatched a sheaf of papers from Julian. She tossed them onto Elara's lap with a flick of her wrist.

"Take a look," she sneered. "Your 'genius' formula. It's ours now."

Elara looked down. It was the patent transfer agreement for the drug she had spent countless nights perfecting. Her signature was at the bottom. A forgery.

Her head snapped up, her eyes blazing with a fury that momentarily burned through her weakness.

"You stole my research!"

"Not stole, Elara," Julian finally spoke. His voice was flat, devoid of any emotion. "You 'voluntarily' transferred it. As payment for cheating on me and getting pregnant with some bastard's child."

The accusation sucked the air from her lungs. A cold dread, slick and oily, coated her insides. Her hand instinctively tried to move toward her stomach.

"No... Julian, this is your child! Our child!"

Lila's laughter erupted again, louder this time, echoing in the cavernous space. "Oh god, she still thinks it's yours, Julian!"

A flicker of disgust crossed Julian's face. "Don't insult me, Elara. I never touched you."

The words were a physical blow. The engagement party. Too much champagne. Waking up in a hotel room, hazy and sore. She had always believed it was him.

"That night... it wasn't you?" Her voice trembled.

Lila leaned in close, her breath hot and sickly sweet against Elara's ear. "Of course not. Julian drugged you that night to make you spill the formula," she whispered, the words a poisoned dart. "Yet you went off to sleep with another man and ended up carrying his bastard child."

Elara's world fractured. She stared at the sharp‑featured man in disbelief. "You drugged me?"

Shunned for her out‑of‑wedlock pregnancy, she had been locked away in the basement like a dog by her adoptive mother. She could not understand why Julian had never once come to see her.

It turned out the child was never his!

Worse still, he had shamefully taken up with her younger sister. The pair had colluded despicably to force her into handing over the formula.

Lila savored her shock, her smile widening. "Too bad you and the bastard have to disappear from the world."

Julian glanced at his watch, his patience wearing thin. "Lila. Enough talk. Finish it."

Lila nodded, her eyes gleaming with a cruel light. She picked up a red can from the corner. The sharp, chemical smell of gasoline hit Elara seconds before the cold liquid splashed over her body, soaking her clothes, her hair.

Panic, primal and absolute, seized her. She thrashed against the chains, the metal clanging uselessly.

"Why?" she screamed, the sound tearing from her throat.

Lila stepped back to a safe distance, admiring her work. "Because everything you had should have been mine! Your talent, your engagement, everything from the Vance name!"

Julian pulled a lighter from his pocket. The small flame flickered to life, dancing in his cold, dark eyes.

"Goodbye, Elara," he said softly, as if discarding an old piece of furniture.

He tossed the lighter.

Whoosh.

A wall of fire erupted, racing across the gasoline-soaked floor toward her.

Lila linked her arm through Julian's, and they turned their backs, walking away without a single glance back.

The scream that tore from Elara's throat was inhuman as the fire licked at her feet. The pain was immediate, searing.

In the last moments before darkness threatened to consume her, one thought burned brighter than the flames: I have to live.

For her innocent child. For this blood debt.

With a final, desperate surge of adrenaline, she threw her entire body backward. The heavy chair crashed against the concrete floor.

Crack!

A metal leg of the chair snapped. The jagged edge sliced through the chain binding her wrists.

Above, a support beam groaned under the intense heat and fell, crashing down between her and the advancing fire wall, a temporary shield.

Choking on smoke, ignoring the agony of her burning skin, she crawled. She scrambled across the filthy floor toward a boarded-up window at the back of the warehouse.

She slammed her body against the rotten planks. Once. Twice.

On the third impact, the wood splintered. She tumbled out of the inferno, falling into the cold, muddy embrace of the rain-soaked ground outside.

And then, nothing.
