Magic Love: Dangerous But Addictive Chapter 1 Brutal Devil King

Whitney Qi glared at the tall man in front of her. "Get out of the way," she spat out with a side smirk.

"He really is busy, Whitney. You can come back later,"

Ethan Ji said with a frown, visibly embarrassed.

"Get out of my way!"

Whitney raised her voice. She had studied music in the past, and she was familiar with the nuances one's tone needed in order to evoke certain reactions.

As if to compete with her, the woman inside the room let out a loud giggle that drifted over to where they stood.

So it was like this then. Whitney cast another disdainful glare at Ethan and pushed him aside. The man fell against the wall, but not before catching a glimpse of her expression from the corner of his eyes. It had to be successful this time!

When she pushed the door into the room, Whitney found a petite woman perched on Marvin Lan's lap. At her entry, the said woman raised her chin and flashed a sultry smile over at Whitney, provoking her. Marvin was holding a cigarette between his fingers on one hand, while his other hand was buried inside the woman's clothes. He ignored Whitney. She strode over until she was before the lascivious couple, and Marvin finally spoke. "Get out."

Whitney pretended not to hear anything, and instead proceeded to inspect the woman's breasts which she appeared to be keen on putting up for display. '34D at least, huh?' Whitney mused to herself. 'Seems inconsistent. She's so small, but her boobs are plump. She's a beauty, anyway, so I suppose that's a good thing. She's exactly Marvin's type.'

"Get out!"

The man repeated, angrily this time, since his words earlier had gone unheeded.

"I'll go out right away. After you unfreeze my card that is." Whitney's gaze drifted over to Marvin and she looked him straight in the eye. "Hurry up," she said impatiently. "Just make the phone call already, and I won't spoil your fun any further."

Marvin's expression changed, and his voice turned colder. "So that's what you barged in here for?"

"Of course. How can I not make a fuss when you've effectively cut off access to all my money?"

"Your money? Let's get something clear here. That money is mine!"

The man's words thundered across the room, and the woman in his arms grinned in smug satisfaction, although she remained silent.

Whitney's lips curved upwards, but her eyes held a wealth of scorn. "Well, are you going to help me or not? It's not like I won't survive without you, you know. There are plenty of other men waiting in line to be with me."

Marvin matched both the edge in her eyes and in her tone. "All right then. Go to those other men and stop bothering me! As you can see, I'm busy here."

"Fine, I'll go right now!" No longer in the mood for a verbal sparring, Whitney turned and walked to the door, her high heels clacking loudly against the floor.

Ethan had been eavesdropping outside the entire time, his anxiety growing by the second. In the end he almost stamped his feet in frustration. Now more than ever, he wished he could somehow beat up that idiot, Trent Li. He never should have listened to that guy's disastrous ideas. Now things were only about to get much worse, and they would all suffer the consequences.

Ethan was neck deep in regrets.

Whitney stormed out of the room and he could only watch helplessly as her figure disappeared down the corridor. Then he slowly edged away from the door, mentally counting until all hell broke loose.

He didn't even get to ten before the inside of the room erupted into chaos. Ethan forgot about slipping away and hurriedly fled from the scene.

Marvin had watched Whitney leave, his scowl turning more menacing with every step she had taken. The woman in his arms seemed to have relished the experience, since she remained in place. As such, she was thrown quite forcefully the moment Whitney was out the door, and she landed a considerable distance from where Marvin was seated. The legendary devil had made an appearance. Paying heed to neither the pain in her body nor her messy clothes, the woman scurried out of Marvin's reach and crawled her way out of the room.

Marvin was livid; veins were bulging at his temples, and a muscle ticked at his haw. He rose to his feet, then grabbed his chair and smashed it over his desk. All sorts of things flew in the air and broke into pieces.

Amy Ai, the Chief Secretary, was right next door. She cowered on her table, trying her best to hold back her fear. She struggled to continue with her work, tapping her keyboard with trembling fingers. She ended up making several mistakes and repeating the task over and over. At the back of her mind, she sighed at the fate of the supplies in the president's office. She would have to go shopping and replenish them again. Now that she thought about it, this seemed to be much too worse, and much too sudden, than any other outburst their boss had displayed in the past. Her feigned composure finally crumpled; it just wasn't worth it. She rushed out of her office and fled just as Ethan had done.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

I went to the New York City Clerk's office to handle a simple administrative matter, but the woman behind the glass handed me a nightmare instead. It was a certified marriage license from Clark County, Nevada, filed exactly three months ago. My vision blurred as I read the name in the spouse field: Baxter Noel. I was legally married to the ruthless billionaire whose legal team was currently suing me for intellectual property theft and trying to destroy my career. I remembered the conference in Las Vegas and a drink that tasted far too sweet, followed by a twelve-hour black hole in my memory that I had chalked up to exhaustion. When I sought help at my family's estate, my stepmother and sister didn't offer comfort; they stole my passport, shredded my clothes, and framed me for academic plagiarism to strip away my university fellowship. Even Baxter himself looked me in the eye with cold indifference, claiming he didn't know me and promising to have me arrested for fraud if I ever showed him that document again. Within twenty-four hours, I was homeless, jobless, and being hunted by the most powerful man in the city. I couldn't understand why a man who "eats people for breakfast" would be caught in the same trap as a struggling scientist like me. The confusion turned to pure terror when I looked at the witness signature on the license: Gene Mcclain. My mother, who was supposed to have died in a car crash ten years ago, had signed that paper with a fresh, trembling hand only ninety days ago. "I am holding a grenade, and I have no idea when the pin was pulled." Standing in the biting November wind with nothing but a laptop and a marriage license, I realized I was just a pawn in a much deadlier game. I stopped running and began to fight back, determined to use my unwanted status as the billionaire's wife to uncover the truth about the mother who came back from the dead.

I woke up on silk sheets that smelled of expensive cedar and cold sandalwood, a world away from my cramped apartment in Brooklyn. Beside me lay Ezra Gardner—my boss, the billionaire CEO of Gardner Holdings, and the man who could end my career with a snap of his fingers. He didn’t offer an apology for the night before; instead, he looked at me with terrifying clarity and proposed a cold, calculated business arrangement. "Marriage. It stabilizes the board and solves the PR crisis before it begins." He dressed me in archival Chanel and sent me home in his Maybach, but my life was already falling apart. My boyfriend, Irving, claimed he had passed out early, yet his location data placed him at my best friend’s apartment until three in the morning. When I tried to run, I realized Ezra was already ten steps ahead, tracking my movements and uncovering the secret I’d spent twenty years hiding: my connection to the powerful Senator Grimes. I was trapped between a CEO who treated me like a line item on a quarterly report and a boyfriend who had been using me while sleeping with my closest friend. I felt like a pawn in a game I didn't understand, wondering why a man like Ezra would walk up forty flights of stairs on a broken leg just to make sure I was safe. "Showtime, Mrs. Gardner." Standing on the red carpet in a gown that cost more than my life, I watched my cheating ex-boyfriend’s face turn pale as Ezra claimed me in front of the world. I wasn't just an assistant anymore; I was a weapon, and it was time to burn their world down.

I thought I was waking up in the arms of Arthur, the man I loved. But as the morning light hit the Hamptons estate, the man buttoning his cuffs by the window turned around with eyes like chips of ice. It was Augustus Riddle, Arthur’s cruel younger brother, and I had just spent the night whispering confessions of love into the wrong man's ear. The night I thought was a beautiful beginning turned into a devastating nightmare. Instead of comfort, Gus treated me like a stain on his expensive carpet, scribbling a check for "services rendered" before shoving me into a dark service corridor to hide my existence from his brother. "How much does it cost to buy your silence?" He sneered, before leaving me barefoot in a torrential downpour while he drove away in a luxury Cadillac. Four years later, I am a struggling actress in Los Angeles, working double shifts as a barista just to keep the lights on. My life was finally stable until my roommate dragged me to a high-end dinner to meet her new "influential" boyfriend. The man sitting at the table, looking more arrogant and lethal than ever, was Augustus. He spent the entire night humiliating me, calling me a pathetic amateur and a social climber in front of my only friends. When I fled into the rain and collapsed on the sidewalk, skinning my knee until I bled, he watched from his car. He saw me clutching a plastic baggie containing the taped-together pieces of that four-year-old check—the only proof of my shame. He looked at me like roadkill, rolled up his window, and drove off into the dark. I couldn't understand why he was doing this. Why did he hate me enough to crush me, yet remember that I couldn't handle the smell of cigarette smoke? Why did he leave me bleeding in the street, only to send expensive medical supplies and coffee to my door the very next morning? "I'm moving out." I told my roommates, realizing that Gus Riddle didn't just want to destroy me; he wanted to haunt me. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out with eighty dollars to my name, finally ready to disappear into the city before he could burn the rest of my life to the ground.
