I'm Kanna Lilith. I was born October 5th. I may look human, but I am not. My life is a complete mystery. I have powers I know of, and powers I have yet to learn. I was created for unknown reasons. My kind doesn't exist outside of myself.

The Unknown Of What I Am Chapter 1 One

I'm not your normal human. No, I am much more. I was born October 5th. Now, I know you won't believe me when I tell you the year, but I think you will figure that out once I tell you about myself. Any who, I was born October 5th 1821. My parents thought I was a witch and had me burned in the town square. Sadly for them, it didn't work. My body ate the flames like it was a delicious meal made just for me. My parents are long dead now, but I can still remember their faces when the fresh flames were taken into my body.

I don't feel pain, I can't be poisoned, I stopped aging at 18 and most of all, I can't be killed. Believe me, I've tried and so have my parents. My name is Kanna Lilith. Mind you, I'm not on any record, though it doesn't bother me.

I walked along the streets in the cover of darkness. My eye sight is better at night than during the day. I've tried to research what I am, but that just led me to dead ends every time. Apparently, my kind don't exist. Because of my parents, I can do all sorts of things. I can put my wounds on someone else, control fire, water and earth, I can use my own blood as poison for others. However, I'm not like that. I am a kind hearted girl that many people take advantage of.

"I wonder if I can shape-shift." I thought and giggled right after. "Nah, I highly doubt I could. Only powers I have are what my parents have done to me." I said aloud.

"Hey Girl. What are you doin' out this late eh?"

I turned and smiled brightly. "I'm just looking for something to do." I clasped my hands behind my back.

"I can give you something to do, Girly." This guy sauntered over to me from the wall he was leaning on.

"What could you possibly have for little old me to do?" I asked, tilting my head slightly to my right.

"Come with me and you'll find out." He smiled.

He's just a normal human. No vampire scent nor any wolf scent on him. Just human stink.

I lightly tapped my finger on my chin thinking. "Should I? Should I not? Fuck it. I've lived through so much worse than what you could possibly put me through." I said. He looked at me strangely for a moment but shook his head and reached for my hand.

"Stop! Don't touch her!" A man who looked to be in his early 20's yelled as he ran toward us.

The man I was talking to ran off quickly down the ally he was going to take me into. I looked at the young man and scowled. "What was that for? I was just about to finally have something to do tonight." I said.

"Are you crazy?! He could have raped you! Or worse killed you!" He yelled. I rolled my eyes and turned to walk away when he grabbed my hand. His hands were very rough like working hands. When he touched my hand, bells and whistles rang off at an annoying volume in my head. I looked at him and saw his eyes were black. I pulled my hand away quickly. "Wolf." I whispered.

He looked at me stunned. "How do you know what I am?" He asked.

"Your eyes turn black the moment you find your mate or when your angry or when your wolf is trying to take over." I stated. "Plus, you smell like a wolf."

He stared at me. "I must take you with me. You are my mate. My father would like to meet you." He said, his eyes slowly returning to their ice blue color.

"No. I am not a wolf, I can't come with you. Your Alpha will have me killed the moment I step onto your lands."

"You won't. I am the next in line to be Alpha after my father. If I tell them that you are my mate, they won't dare hurt you. You are their future Luna." He growled. I stepped back. This shouldn't be happening. No. It's not happening. I'm just sleeping and I need to wake up. I pinched my arm hard with my nails to draw blood. He noticed and stopped me. "Stop that! You're bleeding." He said, leaning down to lick my wound closed. I gasped and ripped my arm from him.

"Don't!" I yelled.

"But you're bleeding."

"I do not want to be responsible for killing you over a small cut like this. I am fine."

He looked at me strangely. "What do you mean by that?" He tilted his head, curiosity getting to him.

"I-- I can't tell you." I turned my head away, feeling like I should tell him, but I'm too afraid. Yes, I'm afraid. Someone who has no fear about going off with small time criminals, is afraid to tell her mate about herself.

"You can tell me anything. You are my mate. Moon knows that we are meant to be together and tell each other everything." He stepped closer to me.

"I can't tell him! I can't tell anyone about who or whatever I am! They may try to kill me again!" I thought. He lightly put his index finger under my chin, making me look up at him."You can trust me." He said softly. "I, Alexander Williams, future Alpha of Nightmoon pack, accept you as my mate." His eyes were soft as he said those words.

"I, Kanna Lilith, an unknown creature, accept you as my mate." I said without thinking, unable to look away from his soft eyes.

He bent down and lightly kissed me cheek. Tingles spread through my body from my cheek. "That was weird." I thought. Alexander smiled at me before stripping his clothes off. I turned away quickly as my cheeks burned hot. The sound of ripping flesh and breaking bones rang through to quiet street. I turned at the sound and found not a man, but a huge pitch black wolf standing in front of me. I blinked a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things, but I wasn't.

I was standing looking straight ahead, looking right into the eyes of this huge wolf. "Get on." His voice sounded in my head. I looked at him shocked. "Mate bond." He said, knowing what I was going to say. "Oh." Was all I said. Was all I could say. Alexander stepped closer to me, I stepped back slightly. "Are you afraid of me?" He asked.

"No! Not at all." I lied. I was terrified of him!

"I can smell your fear, my love. There is no need for you to be afraid. I will never hurt you."

I looked at him for a moment, then slowly raised my trembling hand to brush it over his fur. It was very soft. He stood there, knowing that if he moved, I would jump and run away. I've seen werewolves before, but not this close. Always from a great distance. I could feel the warmth coming from under all his thick fur, so I pushed my fingers deeper into his fur. He was so warm that I stepped closer to him just to feel his soft fur on my skin. "Will you come home with me, my love?" He said.

I jumped at his voice in my head. I knew I shouldn't, but saying no felt so wrong. I don't understand what is happening at all. I stepped back and smiled sofly. "I will." I looked over at his clothes laying on the sidewalk. "What about your clothes?"

"I have more. I don't usually strip, just shift and shred my clothes." He said. I could hear the smile in his voice. I giggled and stepped closer to him, putting my fingers in his fur again. "Do you like my fur that much, my love?" He asked. I blushed and nodded.

"I do. It's very soft."

He laughed. "I guess it's a good thing that I don't really like my human form." I giggled. "Now, climb up. I'll take you to my home." Alexander lowered himself to the ground, but I backed away shaking my head.

"You don't have to carry me. I can walk on my own. You can't live too far if you are out here on your own."

"No, I do live far from here. Moon Goddess has told me to travel to this city in search of something that I would know when I found it. I believe strongly that I have found what I am looking for. Please, allow me the honor of carrying you on my back."

I sighed at him, but smiled and climbed up on his back. "Please tell me if I am too heavy or if I am pulling your fur. I don't want to hurt you."

He burst into laughter. "You heavy? Not a chance." He stood up quickly, forcing me to hold his fur tightly. So I didn't fall off. "You feel like a feather, my love."

I blushed lightly, knowing that I squealed when he got up. "Still." I bit my bottom lip lightly.

He growled lightly, noticing that I was biting my lip. "Down boy! I may be from the 1820's, but I'm still a virgin."

He froze in place. "Say what? 1820's did you say?"

"Yes. I told you, I am an unknown creature. I was born October 5th, 1821." I said as he began to walk east.

"Hmm... That makes you how old?"

"I lost count after the first 100 years." I blushed.

He remained quiet for a while. I was afraid that he was going to reject me after hearing that I am hundreds of years old. "I hope he doesn't." I thought. This was the first time I have ever felt something like this. Not even being burnt alive gave me tingles. I felt no pain from fire.

We were in a very dark forest with literally no sound other than Alexanders paws hitting the ground. "Hey Kanna?" His voice in my head made me jump and fall off him. I landed on my butt with a thud. "Ouch!"

"Are you okay?"

"Yes. I actually don't feel pain. I just learned to make it a habit of saying 'ouch' when I'm supposed to feel pain." I smiled, brushing the dirt off my shorts and legs.

"You really can't feel pain?"

"Nope. Not at all. Here," I looked around, but I didn't find anything sharp enough. " Open your mouth. Nice and wide."

He tilted his head, but he did as I asked him to. I stuck my arm in his mouth. "Now, bite like you are breaking someones neck."

"What?! No!" He yelled, pulling away from me.

"Trust me." I said, putting my arm back in his mouth.

He closed his eyes and whimpered, but bit down hard, snapping all my bones in my arm. He let go as soon as my arm went limp in his mouth and looked at me, but I shook my head and held up the arm he snapped. It was healing rapidly. Faster than a werewolf or a vampire could heal. "You really didn't feel any pain?"

I giggled. "No. Not even a little pinch. Now come here before I end up killing you." I said. I pulled my shirt off and cleaned my blood out of his mouth quickly. Once I dropped my shirt on the ground, Alexander and I watched as my blood ate my shirt away like acid on metal. "That's why I stopped you in the city." I looked at him.

He looked at me, shock clear in his eyes. "That's one fuck of a power you have there, my love."

I blushed lightly, but then stopped due to the memories that came back to me. I shook my head clear and looked at him. He looked like he saw something in my eyes, but didn't ask any questions, just lowered himself to the ground again so that I could get back on.

"What was it that you were going to say before I fell?" I asked.

He laughed. It sounded like he was embarrassed. "I uh-- I don't remember."

I burst into laughter. "I'm sorry. That was funny, because that happens to me a whole lot." I wiped my tears away. I could have sworn I saw a grin on his snout.

"What other things can you do?"

"I can do a lot. I don't think we have enough time for me to tell you everything. Well, I do but you on the other hand, don't."

"Try me."

I smirked. "What are you immortal too?"

"Oh Goddess, no. I'm only 22."

"Well than, you have enough time for me to tell you a little bit. However, you must promise me not to tell a single soul and you must promise that you will not, for a single second, pity me in any way."

He hesitated for a few moments. "Fine."

"Well, as you know, I was born in the 1820's. I grew like any normal girl should. Did chores in the house like any normal girl should for that timeline. When I turned 18, I felt something different about myself, but I couldn't figure it out. So I lived normally. Five years down the road, I wasn't aging and my parents began to believe that I was a witch. They brought me to the church where they accused me of being a witch. The church took the word for my parents and attempted to burn me alive in the town square. That didn't work. My body just ate the flames like it was a meal. After that, I was able to control fire and create it whenever I wanted to. My days after that, were spent locked in the basement and my parents began to inject me with all sorts of poisons. That only served to make my blood poisonous to others and objects. One day, I heard my father tell my mother that he was going to take me to the lake and drown me. He did so under the cover of darkness. They didn't want to be seen with me, in fear that they may be killed for being witches too. He took me to the lake and tied ropes to heavy stones and the other end to my ankles and wrists. As you can see, I'm alive. I was able to control earth and water at the same time because of that. At that time, I was able to feel pain, but when I came back home later that night, I was stabbed, chained, beaten and bruised to the point I was no longer able to feel pain. Due to metal being from the earth, I was able to break them using my powers. I left after I knew they no longer accepted me as their daughter. I never changed my name and I lived off the earth and whatever I could find and clean for clothing, is what I wore. Years had passed like that. I didn't know my parents had another child nor do I know if that child is like me or that child was normal. Anyways, I kept living on my own, only approaching humans when I needed to. More years passed. I made friends with a witch girl. One day I decided to ask her if she could help me find out what I was and why I had these powers when I was born to ordinary humans. It isn't possible that I was born this way is what she said to me. She thought that a witch cursed me so, when she checked, she found that there was no curse at all. Just the fact that I was born like this and that I had much more potential to evolve passed what I was at back then. Sadly, during a war of the Moon Goddess's children broke out and she was called to help her people as she was the strongest witch they had ever seen, she was killed. A vampire hybrid bested her in magic and killed her. I cried over her grave for days. Only when her coven elder came to me, did I leave her grave. The elder questioned me. There were so many questions that I couldn't answer, all because I don't know what I am. The elder performed spells on me to reveal my family history, but that didn't turn out well for them. It only showed my parents, whom were humans. They tried to test my blood to find anything familiar with other night creatures, again, nothing. Not even today's findings have told me what I am. Any who, the elders didn't know if they could trust me or not, so they asked me to leave under the cover of darkness and never return. I spent many years wandering the earth. Going where ever I wanted. Doing whatever I pleased. I tried drinking, but it had no affect on me. I've tried drugs, it had no affect on me. I've tried to kill myself many times in my years, but all ended the same. Me living. I began to give up on finding the answers I was looking for about a week ago. I decided that last night was a good night to go out for a breather and find something fun to do. That man that I was going to go with wasn't going to harm me, I knew what he wanted and I wasn't going to give it to him. Scarring people is something I find fun by the way. Alas, you Mr. Williams, stepped in and made him run away. Now I have a mate and he is taking me home. Also, I am very surprised that you are still alive after all that for a life story. It's quite a boring one I might add." I explained.

He remained silent for a long time. Taking in everything I said. "You parents were assholes." He said.

"I know, but whatever. I'm alive and that's all that matters right?"

"Yes but, why put you through all that when they should have just accepted you as you are for what you are? I mean, my mom is a human and my dad is a werewolf. Mom still loves me for what I am. Same as she still loves my dad for what he is."

"Different times, love. Different times."

"Still!" He growled.

"Still nothing. I'm alive and and now I am your mate. You should be happy. Not getting mad over something that happened hundreds of years ago."

He huffed and kept walking, growling every now and then. I leaned forward, pressing myself close to his body. I was now getting very tired and cold. I shivered as a cool breeze blew through the forest. "Are you cold?" Alexander asked.

I nodded a little bit against his back. He suddenly changed directions and walked toward what looked like a mountain side. As good as my eye sight is in the dark, I was too tired to keep my eyes open and fell asleep on his back.

I was sitting in the Presidential Suite of The Pierre, wearing a Vera Wang gown worth more than most people earn in a decade. It was supposed to be the wedding of the century, the final move to merge two of Manhattan's most powerful empires. Then my phone buzzed. It was an Instagram Story from my fiancé, Jameson. He was at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris with a caption that read: "Fuck the chains. Chasing freedom." He hadn't just gotten cold feet; he had abandoned me at the altar to run across the world. My father didn't come in to comfort me. He burst through the door roaring about a lost acquisition deal, telling me the Holland Group would strip our family for parts if the ceremony didn't happen by noon. My stepmother wailed about us becoming the laughingstock of the Upper East Side. The Holland PR director even suggested I fake a "panic attack" to make myself look weak and sympathetic to save their stock price. Then Jameson’s sleazy cousin, Pierce, walked in with a lopsided grin, offering to "step in" and marry me just to get his hands on my assets. I looked at them and realized I wasn't a daughter or a bride to anyone in that room. I was a failed asset, a bouncing check, a girl whose own father told her to go to Paris and "beg" the man who had just publicly humiliated her. The girl who wanted to be loved died in that mirror. I realized that if I was going to be sold to save a merger, I was going to sell myself to the one who actually controlled the money. I marched past my parents and walked straight into the VIP holding room. I looked the most powerful man in the room—Jameson’s cold, ruthless uncle, Fletcher Holland—dead in the eye and threw the iPad on the table. "Jameson is gone," I said, my voice as hard as stone. "Marry me instead."

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

At home, my father threatened to cut off my mother's life-saving medicine unless I crawled back to Kason to beg for a better deal.
