Chapter 1 Prologue

But... I just found myself in the same room, with the same guy whom I'm trying to forget.

"I want you, Kythe. He sounded desperate despite being seductive.

"I wish we could forget about our situation.

Maling-mali 'to.

His lips touched mine... and before I even knew it, he was already kissing me torridly.

Dapat alam niyang hindi 'to pwede!

Ngunit ganoon pa man, ayaw kong maniwala.

We were both panting like crazy!

Napalunok ako nang ngumisi ito. "No. I'm serious, let's forget everything for a while."

Muli akong napalunok.

He confidently looked at me with assurance in his eyes... "Because I'll make sure that the pain you're feeling right now will be replaced by pleasure," puno ng kumpyansa niyang sambit at akma na akong hahawakan nang pigilan ko siya.

He caressed his thumb just below my eyelids.

Nakapagat ako sa ibaba kong labi. Ano ba 'tong ginagawa namin?

He gave me assurance for some reason... mababaliw na yata ako!

He did some things that I never expected him to do. It's like he was an innocent kid, curiously playing with a toy... except... this is no toy... and he... he is a complete opposite of an innocent kid.

But it was too late when I unconsciously kissed him back.

I was catching my breath when the knock on the door gets louder.

"Damn it," dinig kong bulong niya habang napahilamos ang kanyang palad sa sarili niyang mukha.

"Lorenzo? Lorenzo?!"

The moment our eyes locked, the anger and regret that I saw in his eyes suddenly faded. His face softened.

Napagtanto niyang mali.

For a second... he looked at me, being worried. Like he knew what was bound to happen next. He knew what's coming for us once we step out of this room.

"I'm sorry," he mouthed.

We both wanted to explore so early...to the point where...we lost control.

We were too wild. Masyado kaming nagpadalos. Now...we're both in deep pain.

I watched my husband sign the papers that would end our marriage while he was busy texting the woman he actually loved. He didn't even glance at the header. He just scribbled the sharp, jagged signature that had signed death warrants for half of New York, tossed the file onto the passenger seat, and tapped his screen again. "Done," he said, his voice devoid of emotion. That was Dante Moretti. The Underboss. A man who could smell a lie from a mile away but couldn't see that his wife had just handed him an annulment decree disguised beneath a stack of mundane logistics reports. For three years, I scrubbed his blood out of his shirts. I saved his family's alliance when his ex, Sofia, ran off with a civilian. In return, he treated me like furniture. He left me in the rain to save Sofia from a broken nail. He left me alone on my birthday to drink champagne on a yacht with her. He even handed me a glass of whiskey—her favorite drink—forgetting that I despised the taste. I was merely a placeholder. A ghost in my own home. So, I stopped waiting. I burned our wedding portrait in the fireplace, left my platinum ring in the ashes, and boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco. I thought I was finally free. I thought I had escaped the cage. But I underestimated Dante. When he finally opened that file weeks later and realized he had signed away his wife without looking, the Reaper didn't accept defeat. He burned down the world to find me, obsessed with reclaiming the woman he had already thrown away.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."
