Ex With Benefits Chapter 1 The Reunion Party

Nicole raised her 'already short gown' a bit higher and adjusted her make up once more as she stood at the entrance of the very expensive lounge selected for their party. It took her three months and a constant alarm reminder to decide if she was going to attend the reunion and now that she was here, she needed someone to tell her the party was over and she could go home for a rest.

She hated parties, especially dusk to dawn ones, where she needed to take panties to change into the next day. She hated getting wasted and crashing beside someone she didn't know for the night. She hated a lot of things, all that she once loved five years ago.

"Urghh!" Nicole let out a grunt of frustration. If she didn't let it out she might not be able to scale through the torment she would face tonight. Her heart pounded with great pressure and a question kept repeating in her head.

'Would he come?' No, he won't.

She knew he would come, but she couldn't help but answer the question herself. It was like a pain relief for her mental balance, it was what pushed her here with a little confidence boost.

'Relax Nicole, you just need to enjoy the party like a normal lady' she kept assuring herself. She had not taken a step forward to open the door for about thirty minutes now.

She was certain the party had already started. She deliberately arrived late so she could just sneak in without anyone's awareness, if that was possible, but here she was wondering why the hell they chose to lock the door. There was no way she was going in without getting caught.

Nicole moved a step closer to the door finally making up her mind to turn the knob and she heaved a heavy sigh bending the door handle as she opened the door widely.

Nicole's leg freezed as everyone in the room turned their heads towards her and Nicole could see a thousand eyeball stare at her. Everywhere was silent and yes, she was the main attention now.

"What the hell, Nicole!" A loud male voice broke the silence. "Its a reunion not a funeral! Is that a scarf?" A thunderous laugh followed after his words and Nicole could recognize the voice talking. It was the group comedian Denise, he always seem to make a joke about something and she was his first victim tonight.

"Hahaha" Nicole joined the others laughing too. It was stupid of her to have forgotten she had her scarf tied around her chest. Truth be told, she felt insecure about the opening breast space of the dress and she needed cover. It totally ruined the beauty of her dress.

"Who else is seeing Nicole's curve, her hips has gotten wider isn't it?" Richard said as he laugh and teased her and others joined him laughing too. Nicole let out a little blush.

"Nicole has been, hip-dogging all these years" Denise joked, not able to control his own laughter and all those that understood his joke roared in laughter too. Even Nicole let out a small chuckle.

"Damnit!" Cara cussed as Nicole pulled off the scarf from her chest revealing a soft, high up cleavage popping out from her dress. "Girl, how did you become so hot!" Cara couldn't help her complement. Nicole was a gem, a sparkling one in that dress and even as a lady, Cara needed to tell her.

"She got a job, that pays her well!" Denise attacked Cara's compliment back and there was thunderous laugh again. Cara raised her brows at Denise in disbelief for revealing to everyone that she didn't have a job and she stood up from where she sat and took a bottle of champagne from the table running after him in a threatening manner.

"Don't just stand there" Selena finally spoke after admiring Nicole for so long while others talked. She stood up and moved to the entrance where Nicole stood and dragged her from there. "We couldn't start the party without you" Selena said with a smile pushing Nicole to a seat. "Let the party begin!" Selena high pitched voice filled the room as she screamed happiness.

"Yes!" Everyone screamed with excitement too and laugh as music started playing. Nicole looked at her friends and a smile crossed her lips. Its been so long and she must admit that she missed them all.

"Yes!" She whispered under her breath too as she chuckled. She needed to take all shyness away and have fun. She had wasted lot of years being a boring girl and she needed that to change, even if it was just tonight.

Richard moved to Nicole and dragged her from her seat as he wiggle her to the beat of the music. Nicole finally let out a genuine laugh as he spin her around. Richard had always been her favorite person and she was glad to see him again.

Nicole released herself a bit more as she danced to the rhythm of the music. She had all night to spend with these guys and she needed to have the same amount of fun they were having before they all part ways again.

Denise, Richard, Cara, Selena and ... him, Were all reason for her beautiful existence in life and whatever fun she had encountered, she owed it to them.

While Nicole danced, she could remember the exact moments like this back then in school, the late night parties, the sneak from home, the alcohol and sex with - him. The h as a ppy moments, till he just changed.

Nicole suddenly stopped dancing as her source of fear clouded her brain again. Her heart giving a huge thud . He was not here...yet. What would she do when he comes in. She didn't even know how to react to show that she didn't care. Polite hugs are okay, dancing is not. Smiling is OK, too much enthusiasm is not. She set herself up to respond to many scenarios that could happen.

'You're over him, Nicole' Nicole told her self. Who the hell uses five years to get over a guy? Well it was her! And currently she didn't know if she was truly over him.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

I stood at my mother’s open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest’s voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone—he brought Charla with him. He claimed she’d had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.
