Chapter 1 Prologue

December 30 5:00 - 6:16 A.M. There were rays of yellow and orange clawing away at the grey mist of the early hours. The air was thin and cold. Every time he inhaled, the frozen air slashed through his lungs. He was weary but prepared, terrified but calm, yearning to shout but he kept silent as he washed his face on the hard water stained little sink in the corner of his room. The icy water stung and felt like it ran through his veins instead of his skin. He felt weak but heartily ate the meal he was endowed with. The coffee tasted bitter than usual and he felt as if the bread could be chewed up indefinitely. He forced himself to swallow and the coarse lump raked down his throat. Time was running out. He knew it. In any likelihood, if heaven would permit, he still had a collection of things he needs to do. He smiled at his reflection in the broken stained mirror and parted his hair like he always did, to one side. He had walked the earth for 35 years now. He was able to achieve gigantean accomplishments that no other man could ever step up to. At the age of 16, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree with an average of excellent from Ateneo Municipal de Manila. In the same year, he enrolled in Philosophy of Letters at the University of Santo Tomas, while at the same time took courses leading to the degree of surveyor and expert assesor at the Ateneo de Municipal. He passed the surveyor's examination at the age of seventeen, but was not granted license to practice the profession until he reached twenty. He enrolled in Medicine at the University of Santo Tomas. At twenty one, he sailed to Spain to continue his studies at the Universidad Central de Madrid. At twenty three, he was conferred the degree Licentiate in Medicine and on his 24th years of age he finished his course in Philosophy and Letters with a grade of excellent. He travele in Europe, America and Asia, and was able to master 22 languages, which includes Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Malayan, Portuguese, Russian, Sanskrit, Spanish, Tagalog, and other native dialects. He is a versatile genius, taking various professions. He is an architect, artist, businessman, cartoonist, educator, economist, ethnologist, scientific farmer, historian, inventor, journalist, linguist, musician, mythologist, nationalist, naturalist, novelist, ophthalmic surgeon, poet, propagandist, psychologist, scientist, sculptor, sociologist and theologian. He is an expert swordsman. He wrote two novels that would bring liberation and pride for his country and people. But at the present time, he is walking along a stone path. Two men conversed with him. He keeps looking around as if seeking or expecting to see someone. His last word, said in a loud voice: "Consummatum est!"
