Chapter 1 You're Not Indispensable, You Know
Crickets chirped, making their presence known in the silent city.
The HillTop Hospital-- the most exquisite of its kind, in the heart of Country V-- was bustled with activities as at the time the clock stroke midnight. It was a promise of health and medicine; high-end medicine.
"Dr Raelle, the patient in ward 12 needs an appendicitis surgery right now. Doctors Lilian, Naomi and Reed would accompany you for the procedures. To the OP room now!" Doctor Greg ordered as he gave her the patient file.
Doctor Greg was the head doctor HillTop Hospital. A man of few words and thousand actions.
Raelle Reese, a general practitioner, sighed as she took the patient file from him. She was tired.
She had been working double shifts for the past week and today being a Saturday, she was supposed to go back home to get some rest and return by morning.
But it didn't seem like she'd be getting any rest.
"Naomi, Lilian and Reed. To the OP room now. Patient 107 needs a surgery now." She said with little to no tiredness as she stepped into the dressing room.
In a few minutes, they came out, clad In their surgical attire. As the lights of the theatre room came on, Elle sighed.
"Disinfect the patient" she started to dish out orders.
After Reed had done the disinfecting, she sedated the patient and got to work.
"Scalpel..."
"Scissors..."
The surgery went on for hours.
They didn't come out until about four am. Elle immediately made her way to the washroom, cleaned up, picked up her bag and made her way to her small but useful car, ready to go home.
She wanted to sleep.

"Boss, isn't it a little too early?" An obviously sleepy but displeased voice sounded over the phone.
Sven's sweet sleep was disrupted by his boss'bad timing.
His boss was calling him by four am to be at the office at such an ungodly hour.
The demon!
An even more displeased and cold voice responded, "makes me wonder, when you last had an exercise"
The call ended abruptly.
If there was one thing Liam Wilson disliked, it was Lazy People.
They were simply.... Annoying!
Sven scrambled off the bed and ran to the bathroom.
His boss is the Devil himself. He knew the exercise wasn't just 'exercise'.
"If he doesn't sleep, he should at least let others do so. Ahhhrg! You're evil Liam Wilson."
Sven continued to sulk as he came out of the bathroom and started to dress up.
He was in a rush like someone who was running late for their flight.
He picked up his bag and keys and ran out of the house.
He didn't plan on dying soon so he had to be early.

At the CEO'S office in the Wilson's Corporation...
Sven breathed like a maniac as he knocked on the door.
He was out of breath!
He was breathing like one who ran a long distance.
Well, he had!
The elevators were out of use for cleaning when he arrived, so he had no other choice but to take the stairs..
He had climb up 15floors!
"I don't have all day Sven" A cold and impatient voice responded from behind the door.
Sven didn't stand another second. He quickly open the door and entered.
He knew better than to offend this burning furnace.
Liam sat leisurely on the swivel chair in the middle of the spacious office, his legs on the desk. In his left hand, was a pen which he played with.
Sven could swear that the mere sight of his boss' was enough gift for any woman- his well cut hair, pert nose, crystal clear eyes and luscious lips, were more than enough to make one drool.
"Good morning sir" he started with a small smile.
"The Contract with the Callaghan's?" Liam asked meaningful.
He didn't have the energy for greetings.
Sven cleared his throat and pushed back his glasses as he began to recite the information, " The Callaghan's contract had to be annulled. It was obvious that the profit rate after the contract would be only about 25%. But, they sent in another contract yesterday. Rest assured, this one has a trusted profit rate of about 45-50%. Or even more. Then there's also the......"
Liam listened attentively to his P.A speaking as he took note of things important to him.
"That's all sir" Sven's small but masculine voice sounded in Liam's ear.
"Hmm. Fix an appointment with Dr Raelle Reese for 9am today. Also, the meeting with the Mizouri's, attend it. I won't be coming in anymore today. Clear my schedule for today and tomorrow. That'd be all" came Liam's response as he stood up, picking his blazer, ready to make his way out.
Sven didn't understand what his boss meant. "Boss, can I go home?"
If his boss was leaving, he might as well go get some more sleep.
"Hmmm. Don't forget the meeting with the Mizouri's by 12pm."
Liam replied as he walked out.
Sven was left standing in the middle of the office.
He didn't understand what was wrong with his boss.
Usually, his boss would have shouted at him beyond five times in the short time they were in the office. But that didn't happen today.
And his boss wasn't one to ditch work for anything.
Whatever it was, it was serious.
He sighed as he walked out of the office, making a mental note to make an appointment for his boss.

"You're so stubborn" Skyler was angry at his sister.
He had warned her before she wouldn't listen. Now, she was burning up badly.
"A day or two off wouldn't hurt anyone Elle. You're not the only doctor in the hospital"
Even if he knew what she would say, he still spoke.
"Sky, people need me. I'm a doctor" Raelle knew her brother only cared, but she had a duty. She couldn't forsake it.
Skyler was pissed off as he handed her the drugs, "So you have the license to die, right? You're not Indispensable, you know? And I hope this is not because of me, my tuition fees, right?"
Raelle sighed as she swallowed the pills and replied, "no no Sky."
"I hope so. Get some rest"
He said as he walked out.
Raelle looked at her brother's disappearing silohette and she sighed.
"I'm sorry Sky, I had to lie to you. I can't rest if your tuition fees aren't paid"
