The beauty of the two unlucky sisters that shines and glitters like the rays of an evening sunset. Their beauty was so unimaginable that even a blind man could notice how beautiful they were. Melissa Sentibanes the elder sister had all her beauty centered around her round blue coloured eyes and she was just in her early 20s. Marianah Sentibanes the younger sister was just as beautiful as Melissa. She had this beautiful U-shaped lips that no one could resist kissing them. One could easily describe them as twins.

Melissa and Marianah were living high on the hog from their parents ( Mr and Mrs Mario Sentibanes). They had everything on a silver plate during their childhood but as years passed life became a vale of tears and unfair to them. Tragedy created a feeling of being unlucky within their hearts

Mrs Mario, " it's another beautiful day raise and shine my sleeping beauties." Good morning mother ,they replied. ( Their father walked in) Mrs Mario, " Oh my darling Mario we are really so blessed to have such beautiful daughters." Oh yes , they are really beautiful, Mr Mario agreed.( Their parents walks out of the room).

Hey Melissa can I speak to you about something please? Yes please go ahead but it's better be quick because I don't have time to waste ,said Melissa. Okay ( Marianah breathed out heavily) before she could speak out her mind. Melissa am i allowed to date?, She asked.

Wha.....what? You are not even 18 yet and you are already thinking of dating, don't you think you are quite too young to start a relationship? Well, my dear sister sorry to disappoint you but I just can't allow you to do that or rather wait till you make 18 years, Melissa replied her sister. But I'm in love ( Marianah speaks out emotionally). Melissa, "shhhh shut it,do you want father and mother to hear you?" Whatever Marianah muttered and walked out of the room angrily and slammed the door after her.

(The door knocks)yes. Mrs Mario, "I thought I had some noise coming from your room is everything okay?" Melissa, it's nothing mother everything is fine. Okay,that reminds me your birthday is next weekend have you made the preparation already? Yes mother doing that is just a piece of cake please don't let yourself get worked up ,she replied. Thank you so much mother (she hugged and kissed Melissa's forehead and cheeks) and left the room.

Melissa began preparing herself to go visit her long time friend Theresa. After she was done, she left her room. She walked to the living room and finds her sister Marianah seated on the couch watching TV. You are such a couch potato , she muttered all you do is sit and watch TV the whole day. Marianah," why are you being rude to me? Please leave me alone and just go to whatever you are going ( showing frown face) Melissa stared at her sister angrily wondering why her younger sister would speak to her in such manner. Few minutes later she left to meet her friend Theresa. (Phone rings) Hello,she answered. Hi Melissa, how are you? Are you coming today? Oh hi Theresa, I'm fine thank you, Oh yeah I'm already on my way to your house. Okay that's great I will be expecting you then bye (she ends the call).

Few minutes later Melissa reached Theresa's place.( Thé door knocks) yes, please let yourself in. Melissa entered. Theresa, " Oh my God Melissa it's you I'm so happy to see." Same too girl.(they hugged each other happily). please have a seat. Theresa, "so what's up Melissa,how have you been? I mean it's been a long time since we last saw each other and i really missed you a lot you know and you are looking so pretty. Awwwwah thank you Theresa, to be honest I really missed you too a lot and that's why I really needed to come and see you and also invite you personally to my birthday party next weekend and you are going to help me with the preparation because I know when it comes to decorating i believe you can do it perfectly. Theresa excitedly, " ohoo that's so sweet of you to think that way about me." Well, i really don't want too many people, I prefer it simple. Okay Melissa,but can I ask you a favor. Oh yeah sure,She replied. Theresa," can I invite my boy... friend Serio to your birthday party? What ? You mean you have a boyfriend already , Melissa asked. Yes ,but sorry I didn't tell you.

Serio was a very sweet and romantic person to be with but he was also a party animal. He was working with one of the most popular designing company in city. He had a good taste when it comes to choosing a woman.

Melissa and Theresa had a long chat with each other and they were so happy to see each other because they had not seen each other in donkey's years. It was already getting late for Melissa to go back home.she had to say goodbye to Theresa and after she left.

Melissa reached home feeling exhausted and all she thought was freshen up and take a nap. Few hours later they had their usual family dinner together but while having dinner, Marianah barely touched her food and her mother noticed. Mrs Mario ," what's bothering you Marianah" Hmmm, mother don't mind her, she is just too immature and inexperienced to know what she is getting herself into, Melissa interupts. Mrs Mario," can you just spill out the beans instead of laying insult upon your sister and please don't beat around the bush. Marianah, " I'm in love with someone mother." "Holy cow! do you even have any idea of what it means to be in love? How dare you start dating behind our backs?" she yelled at Marianah. Marianah's eyes were filled with tears and anger. She left the dinning running to the room in tears.she didn't want to either see nor speak to anyone. She wanted to be left alone.

CHAPTER TWO

MELISSA’S BIRTHDAY PARTY

You really need to chill and calm down about whole thing, said Melissa. Marianah gave a deaf hear and played possum. Melissa kept talking to her despite the fact that she pretended to be a sleep. But at last, it seemed like Melissa was getting on her nerves. Enough Melissa enough she shouted, I know you are getting green with envy on me. Just leave me alone, Marianah’s word hit her like a bolt of lightning. Melissa, never you have the audacity to talk to me in such manner, am your elder sister and deserve some respect”.

Melissa took a deep breath to calm down herself. Before she went to bed, she had to close the door and turn off the light. Marianah rolled her eyes in darkness after her sister turned off the light. Next morning Marianah leaves the bed so early but on her way out of the room she saw her mother coming towards their room. She wanted to hide from her mother but unfortunately she had already spotted her.

Maranah was fine with everything. As much as possible, she didn’t want to see anyone. Mrs. Mario was still worried and concerned about her daughter. Mrs. Mario, “Marianah I need to speak you about what happened yesterday at the dinner”, Marianah mother didn’t want to talk about this anymore. So she briskly changed the topic. “Mother when is Melissa birthday party? I want to invite my friends to attend. Seeing her daughter’s reaction, Mrs. Mario sighed. Without giving her mother a chance to say anything she hurried back to her room and closed the door behind her. Mrs. Mario shook her head and didn’t dare to complete her thought. Melissa, Marianah please, can we go together shopping for my birthday party. I am sure you will get some fancy clothes to wear on my birthday. I really want us to look elegant on that day. I will escort you on one condition only if you promise to not stop me from dating my boyfriend Serio, Marianah replied. What, Serio? Never mind okay. I promise. Thank you big sister love you. Melissa gave her sister reassuring look and then hugged her I was ready to go shopping while Marianah prepared herself too but she was taking longer than ever. Hurry up! Melissa snapped impatiently. She was afraid that Marianah would change her mind the longer, she waited. “I’m ready “, said Marianah, Melissa come on let’s be on her our way. On their way their first stop over was a high classic clothing shop. As soon as they entered the store, the shop assistant welcomed them. Melissa pushed her sister gently forwarded and said “Get yourself something elegant you will wear on the birthday”.

The shop assistant studied Marianah and Melissa figure carefully and then nodded with so much admiration “Please follow me, miss”. The shop assistant went to fetch a light pink body hug dress and a light blue short dress from one of the racks and handed it to each of them. This should look good on you. How about you try it in the fitting room. “Marianah, please go ahead and try yours, mine will fit me perfectly even without trying”, said Melissa.

Marianah took it and walked towards the direction the shop assistant pointed. A voice of a woman and a man sounded tinged with a hint of happiness. Marianah suddenly stopped and looked into the next room peep through the crack between the door and its frame. She saw a man resembling her boyfriend Serio with is arm wrapped around a woman’s neck. Marianah could not believe her eyes. Marianah felt betrayed and pain but she didn’t dare to make a sound. She simply endured it. That’s a VIP fitting room miss. You can’t go there”, the shop attendant reminded Marianah, snapping her back to reality.

Oh, okay “Marianah looked away quickly and moved into the room on the left. She tried the dress and she looked so beautiful and sexy in the light blue short dress, she liked it too. After Melissa cleared the bill they headed back home. on their way back, Marianah couldn’t stop thinking about what she saw in the VIP room. Both seemed to be too much involve with each other.

The birthday party arrived, everything was well organized. Melissa was dressed in a light pink body hug dress. It brought out all her glittering beauty. She looked like the ocean princess. Her smile could melt your eyes and her smooth skin shinned like a mirror set in the sun light. Other invited guest was already at the party except her friend Theresa and her boyfriend. Melissa could not wait any longer for Theresa to arrive. Everyone was wishing her “happy birthday”. Mr. and Mrs. Mario Sentibarnes were so happy for her and proud of their daughter.

Finally, Theresa arrived with her boyfriend. Melissa, “phew, you really kept me worried, I thought you would not come”. I am so sorry Melissa “I was caught up a little “, said Theresa. Mellisa knocks the glass to keep everyone’s attention. Melissa I’m grateful you and happy that you all managed to devote your time and attended this birthday party, it really means a lot to me. Mother, Father and my beautiful sister right over there thank you so much for being there for me. Theresa thank you so much for helping me, you are such a wonderful friend. The audience clapped excitedly. Please let join and cut the cake on a count of 3, said Melissa. They sung the birthday song and cut the cake and everyone had a bite. As the party went on Melissa called her sister Marianah to introduce her to Theresa. Melissa, Marianah, this is Theresa my friend and her boyfriend Serio. Theresa this is my sister Marianah “what? Boyfriend?” Mariana interrupts. Marianah eyes went as wide as saucer.

CHAPTER THREE

BROKEN

The sound Melissa introduced Serio s Theresa’s boyfriend hit Marianah like a thunderbolt. She nearly lost her balance. She had to take a step backward to lean against the wall for support. Marianah clenched her fist so tightly that her finger nails dug into her palms. She wanted to hit Serio on the cheeks but unfortunately Theresa caught her hand before the slap could land on Serio’s face. “Let go off my hand”, she said angrily.

She was filled with burning anger and she could not withstand seeing Serio and Theresa together. She ran outside the party room in anger, Serio ran after her to stop her. Serio,” Marianah wait, I can explain”. There is nothing to explain, she replied in a crying tone. Theresa in confusion turned and asked Melissa “What the hell is going on between Serio and your sister Marianah? Melissa could not reply her friend, she was not in position to do so because she had just realized at that moment that Marianah and Theresa were dating the same guy. She remembered her sister mentioned Serio as her boyfriend’s name but she could not tell if she was talking about the same Serio, Theresa’s boyfriend.

Serio continued following Marianah outside as he drew closer he grabbed Marianah’s hand pulling her forcefully backward. Marianah turned to stop and gave Serio a hot slap on his cheek. Their eyes fell on each other’s face as their expression hardened. “Did you ever loved me at all? Marianah asked eagerly. You have better tell me the truth because I’m not ready for your cheap lies. Who do you take me for chopped liver? She couldn’t give Serio any space to talk but finally he interrupts Serio, “please come down Marianah”.

Marianah trying to keep calm, she took a deep breath asked pointedly. “What are you doing here with her?” or did you come to mock me?”. Marianah listen to me. I didn’t mean to hurt you in any way I was so attracted to you and I thought things would work between us but I guess I was wrong because I realized I still love Theresa very much. I’m truly sorry for hurting your feelings, Serio replied with pity.

Marianah’s heart nearly stopped in her chest upon hearing that coming from Serio’s mouth but she maintained her calm expression. Tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably “please forgive me Marianah”, Serio begged. I really didn’t mean to hide this from you because I was afraid it would hurt you terribly.

She grabbed Serio by the shoulder and asked him. Are you going to dump me because of her?”. Well you can both go to hell. I don’t ever want to see your face again, you disgust me, she said as tears continued to roll down her cheeks. Mrs. Mario interrupted, “what is going on here?”, she asked.

Marianah withdrew her hands from Serio’s shoulders and restrained her emotions for the time being. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand and sniffed because she didn’t want her mother to notice that she had been crying. Serio turned around and walked back to the party room. Marianah’s heart was palpitating heavily. It took her a long time to calm down. Marianah smiled at her mother reassuringly but her mother wasn’t convinced by smile. She knew something was wrong with her daughter. “Don’t worry about me mother”, tears welled up in Mrs. Mario’s eyes.

Marianah hugged her mother and patted her on the back. Both went back in the party room but as they approached the room, Marianah saw Theresa and Serio kissing at the extreme corner. “What a bastard!”, she muttered. She could not hold her anger seeing them kissing. She left the mother’s sight, she couldn’t help but run to the bathroom. Her mother followed her to the bathroom hurriedly. Seeing that Marianah was crying next to the bedroom window, Mrs. Mario’s heart sank. She asked in a trembling voice, Marianah what’s wrong?

Marianah’s body suddenly froze and she clenched her fists tightly. She turned around and looked at her mother, plucking up all the courage she could muster. “Mother, Serio has dumped me for Melissa’s friend Theresa”. “What happened? she asked in a shaky voice. “Mother, I ……” Marianah felt embarrassed to speak out the truth and instead the memory of her and Serio kept tears rolling down her cheeks.

Who is Serio? Mrs. Mario knew very well that her daughter had never had a boyfriend at school. How could she have gotten Serio? Marianah bit her lips and lowered her head unable to say a word. I’m sorry mother please understand me she said with sadness. Her mother felt pity for the daughter and she wished she could help her in any way. The mother hugged her and patted her back and said Marianah, “I’m sorry that I couldn’t protect you”. Mother I already said don’t worry about me. I am happy as long as you are by my side. “Thank you so much mother! She let out a huge sigh of relief before giving the mother a sweet smile. The mother left her to take some rest. As time passed and it became dark, the part had closed and everyone had to depart for their homes.

Melissa was left so tired plus everyone else in the house. Melissa where is Marianah mother? She wanted to speak to the sister about what had happened earlier at the party. “you will find her in your bedroom”, said her mum. Melissa was straight to their bedroom as soon as she opened the door she glanced at her Marianah’s face. She looked so gloomy and down hearted. Melissa moved closer to the sister to comfort her. Melissa felt so sorry for the sister after. She told her what had happened. Melissa gave her sister a warm hug. “Everything is going to be okay”, said Melissa. Melissa talk and off they went to bed. “what happened to you? Melissa asked. Marianah told her sister everything, Melissa talked and consoled her younger sister.

CHAPTER FOUR

TRAGEDY BEFELL

The next morning Mr. Mario as usual prepared himself and off he went to work. Mr. Mario was indeed a very noble and competent man. He knew that he had to work tirelessly to give his family a better life. He didn’t want his granddaughter to lack anything because he knew how those rich old men outside crave for young beautiful ladies. He didn’t want his daughter to be lured to their traps.

Later that evening the phone rang suddenly. Mrs. Mario hurriedly went to answer the phone the sound of the phone ringing pierced the silence inside her. Hello! She answered, “I’m calling from Green light general hospital, may I speak to Mrs. Mario or any other family member”, please its Mrs. Mario on the phone “she replied. Madam your attention is needed urgently at the hospital. Mrs. Mario’s eye widened in panic and her heart shook.

Marianah and Melissa overheard their mother on the phone and were wondering what had happened. Mother what is going on? The asked. “Nothing my sweeties, it just a call from the hospital asking me to go there urgently”, Mrs. Mario replied. They asked to go with their mother but she insisted on them remaining at home and take care of the house. “Mother we want to come with you”. No you can’t, please take of the house in case of anything I will let you guys know”, she said. Mrs. Mario left for the hospital as soon as possible but her heart was telling her something wasn’t right. As soon as she reached the hospital she rushed to the reception. “Are you Mrs. Mario Sentibarnes”, the reception asked. Oh yes please I am his wife. Okay wait here and let me call the doctor. Mrs. Mario was now having a bad feeling about what was really going on. The doctor came out of the emergency room and approached Mrs. Mario, Madam I need you to be strong about what I am about to tell you now. Her heart skipped a little. Madam your husband was involved in a terrible accident as a result he got a severe brain damaged, he may not have survived or if he survives then will suffer memory loss forever. Mrs. Mario upon hearing this, she felt helpless and heart broken. She couldn’t believe what the doctor told her until she went and peep through the emergency glass window and saw her husband in a heartbroken condition fighting for her life.

Mrs. Mario could no longer stand on her feet, the news brought coldness and shiver to her skin and she began trembling with great fear. She felt as if the world had crumbled. As if that was not enough, the doctor was out with really bad news for Mrs. Mario Sentibarnes. Madam please calm”, said the doctor. Madam we are really sorry but we lost your husband. Wha…. What? “Please tell me it’s not true doctor”, she asked with deep sorrow. Mrs. Mario begged the doctor in between sobs to save husband. She was trembling while signing the document she could barely hold the pen and then handed it to the doctor. Please doctor don’t allow my husband to die, Mrs. Mario begged again.

The doctor looked at her and sighed. “There is nothing we could do for your husband, your husband obtained a severe injury and he couldn’t have managed to survive. I’m sorry for your loss madam. The doctor’s words hit her like lightning bolt. Mrs. Mario suffered severe dizziness and nearly fainted. Her knees buckled from underneath and she collapsed because she couldn’t bare the pain anymore.

Few hours later she woke up and thought she was just dreaming but, unfortunately it was real her husband was truly dead. She asked to see her husband’s body. Mrs. Mario took a deep breath and approached the door to her husband’s ward. Before she opened the door the door to enter and she had to gather all the strength. She has got left to see her husband. She entered and sat beside the bed where the husband was laid. She could not hold her tears. The nurses in the room looked at Mrs. Mario with sympathy but there was nothing they could do. It was already dark and Mrs. Sentibarnes needed to go home and come back the next day to take the husbands corpse and prepare him for burial. She was so hesitant to break the news to the daughters, because she didn’t know how they would react.

Mrs. Sentibarnes left the hospital in great pain and soon she was home. “Mother you are welcome”, they said. But as soon as they saw their mother’s face. Mrs. Mario started weeping. Melissa, “Mother why are you crying?” And it is already late. Father isn’t back yet being father okay? Mrs. Mario I am afraid your father won’t be coming home today. “Your father was involved in a car accident this evening, he was rushed to the hospital and the doctors tried all they could but couldn’t save your father”. Your father is dead. Melissa, wha…what? Mother tell me it’s not true. Melissa lost her balance she was so shocked by the death of their father. Everything seemed like a dream to them. They felt as if time and space were frozen around them. It was such a sad moment in the family of the Sentibarnes. Marianah, “Mother we really need to stay strong for each other”. Few days later, they managed make all the preparation to put Mr. Mario to ret. After the burial was done, they had to mourn their father for a while after some months, they learnt to live without him, although they still missed him a lot on the other side life was also becoming harsh to them day by day since the death of Mr. Mario Sentibarnes. Mrs. Mario it was very hard for Mrs. Mario to move on with life. It still hard for her to say goodbye to the husband. She wanted to continue grieving her husband. Every night she sleeps with her husband’s picture close to her pillow. Staring at it and weeping I miss you my loving husband. She speaks with great sorrow that filled up her heart.

CHAPTER FIVE

THE JOB OFFER

Melissa standing at the large window behind her bed side was lost in thoughts. She didn’t hear the sound of her mother knocking at the door. She let herself in calling Melissa’s name almost 4 times. Until her mother trounced Melissa raised her shoulder astonished and turned around, oh mother. I didn’t notice you were here. Mrs. Mario, said Melissa my sweetheart, what is really bothering you, do you mind sharing it with me. Moher it’s just that I have been thinking about moving to another city and look for a job. Melissa listen, I know life has not been fair to us since the death of your father, but that doesn’t mean you should make a situation any worse. I know one day our life will be better again. Precisely mother I really need to find a job beside I’m 23 already and I can take care of myself. Mrs. Mario said, “why don’t you give it time first and I’m sure you will get a job here”. No mother ever since father died our life has been moving in circles. Mother I have already made up my mind and will be leaving soon besides I won’t be leaving alone. I will be going with my friend Theresa because she is familiar with the place. Mrs. Mario at last came to agree with the daughter although she felt so sad about it, she wouldn’t want her daughters to be away from her. There was huge relief in Melissa’s face. Mum’s phone rang, she picked the call. Hello Melissa, how are you sorry for bothering you directly bit I really need to speak with your sister in person, her phone has been switched off.

Melissa answered, “sorry to ask but whom am I speaking to?” Oh pardon me mother Melissa, it’s me Serio. Melissa promised Serio that she will speak to Marianah. Melissa knew her sister better than anyone and she knew it won’t be easy to convince her to meet with Serio since she got dumped by him.

Later that day Melissa asked to have a word with Marianah. Melissa said “I wanted to tell you that Ser…Serio called me and requested to meet with you”. What? You spoke to that bastard. He has the audacity to call you. What does that heartless bastard want from me again? Melissa asked her sister to calm down and told her to find out the reason why he is calling. Melissa said “I guess it might be something really important he wants to tell you”. I really didn’t want anything to do with him”. Melissa finally convinced her sister, Marianah was left in a state of wonder but at the same time she was also curious to know why Serio wanted to speak to her in person and why not just to do it over the phone.

The next day Marianah prepared herself and set off to meet Serio her ex-boyfriend. She was feeling a little bit agitated. When she reached, she approached Serio’s table, Serio looked at her with too much admiration. Her sexy body attracted dress in a blue short dress that showed all her beautiful curves with her U shaped lips painted with a red lip sticks. Serio was carried away by Marianah’s beauty and he couldn’t realize Marianah was standing right in front of him. Marianah asked” Are you okay Serio?” Oh Marianah you are welcome, sorry I was in my own thoughts, please make yourself comfortable.

The urge to welcome her prompted him to get on his feet. Marianah said, “what is that you wanted to speak to me about, that you couldn’t just tell me over the phone?” If you think I forgave you for what you did to me then you are mistaken.

Serio asked, “Marianah to calm down”. Serio told Marianah that he had something important to tell her. Marianah thought deeply far in silence. Maybe he wants a second chance with me she thought.

Serio said “Marianah our company is hiring a model to represent the face for our company and I think you would be the perfect candidate. “what do you think, Marianah couldn’t keep her enthusiasm from showing, her face reflected it. She seemed to be in a state of repressed disbelief as she sat still on the chair. She finally accepted the offer. Serio sighed contentedly and smiled at Marianah. Serio said, “excitedly, wow congratulation welcome aboard”.

Marianah was so excited and couldn’t wait to reach home and share the good news with her mother and sister. She couldn’t believe that would be working in the same company with Serio.

Later she went back home, she called Melissa and mother. Marianah said,” guess what I think I just got myself a new job, you can’t believe Serio’s company hired me to represent the face of their company. I’m happy mother this is like a dream come true. Mrs. Mario said, “wow, congratulation my beautiful daughter. I knew one day you would be a model! Melissa wasn’t so happy instead she worried about her friend Theresa would take the news.

Melissa said, “Wow I could have been happy for your little sister if only you were not going to work in the same company with your ex-boyfriend couldn’t you think that would jeopardize my friendship with Theresa”. Melissa relax, Serio and I are over each other it is going to be strictly professional. So don’t get yourself worked up over nothing. I’m sure Theresa will understand unless otherwise. Marianah smiled sideways at Melissa and winked and went to the bedroom. Melissa noticed her sister maybe up to something.

Melissa turned to her mother and asked mother don’t you think Marianah is acting selfish. Otherwise why would she accept the offer from her ex if she really wanted nothing to do with him.

Melissa sweetheart being paranoid, your sister is an adult now. She knows what she wants besides it been three years since she broke up with Serio and don’t think she still has feelings for Serio. Okay mom because I don’t want anything to jeopardize my friendship with Theresa.

CHAPTER SIX

MELISSA LEAVES HOME

It has been 3 years since we lost your father, Melissa while starring at her father’s picture. I really can’t get over your death; I miss your dad. Life hasn’t been the same without you around. She closes the picture to her chest and held it tightly as she wept heavily. She felt a heavy burden in her heart. Her sister Marianah opened the door abruptly and saw her crying with their father’s picture in her hands. Marianah walked to her sister. Marianah said, “Melissa I know that you and dad were so close to each other, but its time you got to let go. Stop torturing your self-weeping. I’m sure if mother sees you here in this state, she won’t be happy instead it will bring her pain and more worries. We all miss him and that is why we need to be strong for each other at all times”.

Melissa said, “Thank you Marianah. I promise to take care of you and mother”. “Anyway I came to let you know that I will be starting work tomorrow and need to help me choose what I should wear on my first day at work”, Marianah said. Honestly Melissa was really happy for the sister but she just hopes her sister accepted the job offer in good faith.

Melissa and Marianah love each other so much although sometimes they behave like cats and rats. Melissa accepted to be her sister’s designer for the next day because she wouldn’t want her sister to look disappointing on her first day at work. She also hopes Theresa tries to understand in case she finds out the whole thing.

Marianah got ready for work the next morning. Melissa dressed her sister in a silk white short sleeveless dress with black snake print leather high heel shoes and red lipsticks. Later Melissa was already prepared to leave for another city. She had to pack everything she needed. Her sister Marianah was not around to escort her however they had already had a conversation at night about her leaving. Marianah work was moving on well. She was doing just great at the company. Melissa phone rang and she pick the call. It was Theresa calling if she was ready to set off. Melissa said,” oh yeah I’m ready. Mother will drive me to your place then we can leave together”. “Melissa’s darling, I’m going to miss you, please always call whenever you need anything and please be careful when you are there because I know there are so many notorious group of people in that city”, her mother said. Her mother drove her to Theresa’s place and later returned home. The silence in the house struck her like a bolt of lightning which made her to think about Melissa.

Despite the fact that Melissa and Theresa are leaving for the city together, they won’t be sharing a house. Melissa was green about the city they were going to. They arrived safely but they felt exhausted and needed to rest. Melissa got herself a small affordable house for herself for a time being. Melissa left home with a hope of sustain a job and start her independent life and help her family to have a better life. She had always wanted the job of designing because she believes it was her talent. As time passed Melissa drop her applications to different companies. Unfortunately, none of her application was responded to. Melissa was so frustrated and stranded as life became more and more grueling. She was so baffled about everything. To her it was like time had frozen. Melissa thought deeply in her lonely room while she laid on her bed facing upwards and staring at the ceiling board. I just feel like going back home, life is so difficult here she murmured. Melissa missed her family so much especially her mother.

One lucky day Melissa decided to take an evening walk along the street. As she walked and being lost in her own thoughts to the extent that she couldn’t realize she was crossing a busy road. A speeding car almost ran over her because it all happened in a blink of an eye. As soon as she realized it she was already lying down the roadside it was a man driving. He quickly stopped the car and rushed immediately to go and check on the person he thought he had run over. Melissa panted heavily as the man approached her. Miss, Miss are you hurt? he asked sacredly. “Please I’m so sorry I wasn’t focused”, Melissa replied. It’s okay I’m fine besides it is my fault for not paying attention”. He let his hand to help Melissa get up. When Melissa caught his hand, they stared at each other for some seconds as if it was love at first sight. He pulled Melissa up with great force that almost landed them a kiss. A romantic silence struck them. The man broke the silence when he introduced himself. Oh nice to meet you miss, please call me Carlos Rodriguez. It’s a pleasure. I’m Melissa Sentibarnes. Carlos said, “wow what a beautiful name! it is just as beautiful as you are. Wow I’m flattered she smiled shyly thank you Carlos.

Carlos said, “Anyway I should get going to my office, please this is my business card. Please call, I hope we shall meet again”.

Melissa took the card with great pleasure her heart melted with joy. Mr. Carlos Rodriguez was the CEO of a textile design cooperation. He became the CEO after his father’s death. Although he is not an easy person to approach but he also has a weak spot.

CHAPTER SEVEN

MELISSA GET HIRED

Melissa walked back to her house elatedly. She grins from ear to ear when she reached her house. Melissa couldn’t wait any longer to see Mr. Carlos Rodriguez again. It was as if she had already fallen in love with Carlos. Later that night Melissa dialed the number on the business card that Carlos gave her. When she called it was Carlos himself who answered. She awkwardly kept quiet but after she gathered all the courage she needed and answered back although she was feeling nervous. Melissa said, “It’s me Melissa the girl you met few hours ago”.

Mr. Carlos admitted remembering her then asked to meet her. Melissa couldn’t believe her ears. She was left in a den of confusion. A lot of thought ran in her mind wondering what possibly Carlos would want to share with her. She asked Melissa to meet him at his office, he texted Melissa the address. The next morning Melissa prepared herself to go and meet Mr. Carlos but she couldn’t help keep wondering.

She wore her dark blue short dress that always showed out her sharp curvy hips. She gazed at herself in the mirror. She took a deep breath to relax herself and she left. As soon as she reached, she asked the receptionist to show her the way to Mr. Carlos Rodriguez’s office. As she was about to walk to Mr. Carlos office. Someone bumped on her shoulder with a sudden force. Not just the hand bag from her shoulder fell on the ground but also herself. Since she was wearing high heels. She lost her balance and ended up falling on the ground with her butt first “ouch, this is so embarrassing”. Melissa groaned in pain and wondered if anybody heard her. Melissa looked around quickly to see if there were people. Oh! I’m sorry miss. I didn’t notice you, I am Lina she explained. But Melissa didn’t buy her foul excuse because she knew she intentionally bumped into her because she seems to be green with envy of her. Melissa said, “Its ok miss Lina bends herself to help Melissa but she was stopped by a cold and serious voice from behind Melissa.

Don’t touch her Mrs. Lina or I swear I’m going to fire you Mr. Carlos Rodriguez never like miss Lina ever since his father employed her because he knows how she bullies other fellow employees. Miss Lina gulfed nervously as Mr. Carlos name in front of Melissa glaring at Lina.

Melissa’s ego snapped at him as his two hands now in front of her offering help to stand. When she was sure of his intention. Melissa didn’t hesitate to grab them. He helped her to get up and when she got on her feet Mr. Carlos faced the pale Lina who was sweating from nervousness. Melissa felt embarrassed and lowered her head down. She didn’t want to look at Mr. Rodriguez in the eye. Lina felt so jealous when she saw Mr. Carlos help Melissa get up from the ground because she had always had crush on Mr. Carlos but never gave any slight attention. Mr. Carlos faced Lina again you when you intentionally bumped into her so she can fall and you act as if it was an accident.

Lina said,” stammering voice, no…no…s….s. it’s just” “one more word from you and I swear this will you last a job in this company”. And what are still standing here for? “O…oh. I’m sorry sir, miss”. “What a horrible day!”, she slowly murmured to herself before picking up again her hand bag. Melissa said, “I’m sorry sir”. Mr. Carlos and Melissa to follow him as he walked towards his office door. After picking her office she followed him to his office. He opens the door and went straight to his desk and sat on his cozy chair. “it’s okay sir it was not big deal. She was so nervous Mr. Carlos asked what Melissa was doing for a living and who she was staying with. Melissa explained everything and in the end Mr. Carlos hired Melissa as his Personal Assistant because he noticed her intelligence and beautiful and would suit that position.

“what…what, your per…. Assistant, she stammered sir you must be joking right. Yes, Melissa I’m hiring you as a personal assistant. Melissa’s eye widened by Carlos words with great surprise. This was the best news of the day for Melissa. She was excited to work and couldn’t wait to share the news with her mom and sister plus Theresa.

Mr. Carlos called all the employees including Lina and introduced Melissa to them as his personal assistant and he introduced each and every one as well to Melissa. After ending dinner, Melissa called her mother to check on them and also gave them the news since it’s been a while since she last spoke with them. Your sister and I really miss you.

I’m fine mother, you don’t know how happy I am to hear your voice. Mother guess what I have some good news for you, I got hired by one of the designing company. I was given a position of personal assistant. Her mother was so happy to hear the news. She couldn’t wait to give her daughter a warm hug.

CHAPTER EIGHT

THE PERSONAL ASSISTANT

On a Sunday night Melissa had to prepare her dinner early because she wanted to go to bed early enough so that she would be able to wake up early on Monday morning. She didn’t want to be late on her first day at work. Melissa knew that waking up in the morning wasn’t her thing even during her school time, she hated waking up in the morning. So she set a minute allowance time before she goes for work. She would use 10 minutes to take a shower, 5 minutes to check her texts and calls, 10 minutes for dressing up and doing her makeup and lastly the other 10 minutes for taking her breakfast.

As soon as Melissa had set everything in place for the next day she walked to bed. She was woken up by the loud alarm she had set. She did as she had planned and without wasting time she set off for work. When she entered the office building, she wore her natural smile with all the confidence in her. She wasn’t late, so she used the few remaining minutes to say good morning and have a little chat with other employees who greeted her. “Well definitely not Lina of course. She hated me before I even got the job and she even hated me more when Mr. Carlos introduced me to them as his personal assistant”. She had always wanted the position of personal assistant but unfortunately for her, she was employed as personal secretary “poor Lina”, Melissa mummed.

As Melissa walked out of the elevator and approached her office door, Lina the secretary came frowning in her door. Lina said, “I have been calling you but you just ignored me”, Melissa replied calmly, “ohm I’m sorry I didn’t hear you”.

“hmm! it’s okay but I just wanted to give you this document. Melissa asked,” what is this?” as she accepted the document. Lina replied, hmm it’s just document, you are supposed to look through it and hand it over to sir Carlos. “wait a minute sis the boss here?” Well little missy why doesn’t you go and find out by yourself.

Melissa rolled her eyes at Lina and enter her office immediately she started checking through the document. She heard the voice of other employees greeting their boss and also heard Mr. Rodriguez asked Lina if she had finished the papers he had given her yesterday. Melissa hurriedly checked the document and she was done, after a while. she went to sir Carlo’s office. She knocked but she was welcomed by a cold voice inside saying “come in”. Melissa gathered all the courage she needed and took a deep breath before she could enter inside. The cold atmosphere inside the room plus the cold voice sent goose bumps all over her body.

Mr. Carlos was seated on his cozy chair showing his pink lips. Melissa couldn’t stop her dirty mind from commanding. I wish I could kiss him right now she murmured. “Good morning Mr. Carlos your document you requested for Sir”. Melissa put the document on his desk but surprisingly Mr. Carlos didn’t even ask. “Do you need anything else Sir?” “My schedule please”. Melissa said, “okay Sir, I will bring it right away”. Afterwards she brought the schedules. Melissa asked, “anything else sir?” Mr. Rodriguez told her to leave and go back to her work, he didn’t even look at her instead his eyes were glued on the document Melissa had dropped on his desk. Melissa walked to the door but she was stopped by the cold voice telling her to call Ms. Lia on her way out to come to his office. “okay Sir” Melissa sighed loudly on her way to Lina’s desk. “Lina”, she looked up when she heard Melissa’s voice. “Mr. Carlos want to see you”. “Ohh okay”, Lina replied while rolling her eyes at Melissa.

Melissa got so busy answering phone calls and checking Sir Carlos schedules. She didn’t notice how time passed so first and it was already lunchtime. Oliver one of the employee that liked her appeared to her office door wearing a hungry face “what up Melissa?” Are you choosing work over food just because it’s your first day at work? look, Melissa even if you work yourself off our boss will never be pleased. He is just one ungrateful jerk. Melissa smiled “fine, I didn’t notice it was already time besides it’s my first day at work right. Melissa got her phone plus the purse and she went together with the driver and other employees to the cafeteria. “And what is it exactly?” asked Melissa. Oliver told her it was about Mr. Carlos. Melissa hurriedly covered Oliver’s mouth so that on one hears her voice except them. Melissa said, “what are you talking about?” Don’t you think that’s gossiping and to make it worse and it is about our boss” Although Melissa hates gossiping she really couldn’t pass this one. She wanted to know everything about Mr. Carlos Rodriguez because she was already falling for him. “So what is it?” I heard his mother is sick of cancer and she requested Mr. Carlos to find himself a wife and got married as soon as possible before she dies. So he has been searching for a wife although Miss Lina always chasing him and displaying her intentions towards him but he noticed her or even thought about asking her out.

Melissa asked, “How did you get all this information. I overheard on the phone earlier talking to his sick mother. “oh poor woman is fighting for her breath”, Melissa said pitifully.

So you mean all these years, Mr. Carlos never had any girl friend at all. “oh come on Melissa of course he had someone but things didn’t work out between them. His ex-betrayed him with another man and that’s the reason why he is so cold and heartless towards women”.

Melissa wondered if Mr. Carlos behavior was different from his personally but all of that happened. She was shocked about the news. She could never have imagined that Mr. Carlos had an ex. Another employee Marcus came and joined their table, “chicken is the best dish ever”. Marcus said while unwarping sand witch on his hands. Melissa twirled her spaghetti on her fork and shoved it to her mouth. It’s so yummy and delicious I didn’t know they can prepare so well like this, I must admit it fantastic.

After they finished their lunch, they headed back to their respective desks. Melissa checked the time from her wrist watch after she rushed immediately to Mr. Carlos’ office to remind him of his scheduled meetings.

CHAPTER NINE

MR. RODRIGUEZ FINALLY ASK MELISSA FOR A DATE.

As soon as Melissa knocked and opened the door she found Mr. Carlos on phone talking to someone. The man on phone sounded like a doctor, because he spoke so loud and clear. They were definitely speaking about someone sick. I guess it was about the boss sick mother. Since I heard the rumor from Oliver. Melissa stood there with a note pad in her hand waiting for her boss to end the call. Mr. Carlos yelled, “I didn’t really ask for your opinion because I paid you enough money to treat her and get better. Just keep monitoring her condition. He hanged the phone off wow! She mentally frowned and slight smiled as she pretended not to have heard anything. What’s my afternoon schedule? Melissa stated fluently that had a meeting with one company that wants to buy this fabrics, His secretary Lina and him will represent their project presentation about the new fabrics. Melissa waited for him to say something but he didn’t move an inch he just starred at his phone for a minute. Mr. Carlos clenched his jaws and his knuckles turned white. Melissa trying to call his attention, Mr. Carlos head snapped towards Melissa and she flinched slightly by the look on his eyes but a s soon he realized that it was Melissa his Personal Assistant standing in front of his eyes softened a little bit and let out a sigh. Melissa asked, “Anything else Sir?” Nothing more you may leave. Melissa needed her head and walked out. As she was on her way to her office she muttered” I think I’m really in love with Mr. Carlos because his presence always sends a shiver to my body and I can’t seem to control myself not to talk of it, look him straight in the eyes. I don’t think he likes me. He only sees her his personal assistant.

Her thoughts keeping coming through can he really be romantic with that cold behavior because I can barely see him smile his face is always masked with seriousness and coldness. Her thought was interrupted by a knock on her door. It was miss Lina the secretary she let herself in without Melissa permission. “What do you want Lina?”. Melissa was shocked by Lina’s expression of jealousy her eyes even wicked more when she left and slammed the door hardly behind her.

Melissa great surprise said,” oh my God what just happened right now. I can’t believe warning me over sir Carlos. Melissa rolled her eyes in a disgusting manner. She thought about speaking to Oliver her new friend at work about what happened and she want to get some little information what Lina and their boss. Mellissa want Oliver ‘s desk immediately Oliver can I speak to you about something. It’s really bothering me. It’s about Lina and Mr. Carlos Oliver said, “I thought you said you don’t gossip or snoop around people’s lives”.

You know what forget it. She walked back to her office five months later Mr. Rodriguez started picking interest in Melissa but still had his goofy and cold behavior. Melissa was able to hide her feelings for Mr. Carlos all this while. However much she was dying inside to kiss and hug Mr. Carlos someday. She didn’t dare to show that feeling. She answered sir, no sir. I’m not in any relationship” Mr. Carlos asked “Are you dating with someone right now?” she replied. I’m sorry sir but where is all these questions coming from. He sighed loudly, he was tensed and annoyed. No sir, but I am about to……….

Good he cut her off before she could have finished her sentence she raised an eye brow. Good so I have the honor to take you on a date miss Sentibarnes. Melissa was caught with surprised she could not believe her wish was becoming true. She had always wanted a romantic date with Sir Carlos.

Mr. Carlos dismissed Melissa and told her he will send the driver to pick her at 8:00pm. Melissa went back and freshens up, chose her best dress for her first date. She wore her makeup. CHAPTER TEN

A DATE WITH MELISSA

After some few minutes of sight seeing the streets they passed by the road seemed familiar to Melissa. She sat tightly still as the driver stopped and parked the car at the parking yard. Ms. Sentibarnes we are here?” the driver said. Melissa asked,” where are we exactly?” But the driver told her they were where Mr. Carlos told him to take her.

Melissa took a deep breath; she was blind folded as the driver led to Mr. Carlos. As soon as she reached the table where Mr. Carlos was, Carlos walked close to Melissa and unfolded her face. She was so shocked when she saw the table design with roses and red wine. He romantically and gently pulled the chair for Melissa to sit. Melissa had never seen Mr. Carlos so soft and romantic since she began working with him.

“Thank you Mr. Carlos”, please just call me by my name Carlos it feels sweet. Okay sir. I mean Carlos. “Melissa I know I have been hard on you”. Melissa’s eye widened Carlos called her by her name because he has never mentioned her name even for once since she came in the company. The thing my mother’s sickness is really waring me off. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor”. His eyes almost filled with tears so he lowered his head down in fear that Melissa would notice. Melissa felt so happy her heart was in position of exploding with happiness. However, she also felt pitiful for the poor mother. Melissa said “Carlos I’m really so sorry about your mother’s sickness but I believe she will be cured” Carlos said “you know I lost my father the same way I’m about to lose my mother too”. Please I beg off Carlos don’t lose hope on your mother. I know she can fight this even if I don’t know or haven’t seen her condition. It’s alright Melissa so what should I know about you.

Melissa replied excitedly, well we are just three of us left my mother and my beautiful younger sister Marianah. We lost our dad in a car accident three years ago and that’s why I ended up here looking for a job and then you hired me but my mother and sister are living together. “Wow, I hope to meet your family someday”. Carlos tried to follow her but she insisted she wanted to be alone. She took a cab and went back home but while in the cab all she thought about was the kiss Carlos gave her. She remembered how sweet and romantic he was towards her. Carlos went back to the table where they were. What a stubborn woman she is! He formed his fist as he clenched the jaws I just opened up my entire heart to her and has the audacity to walk out of me. I have known her for quite some good months and I can say she is perfect for me. She is beautiful and smart and that’s the kind of woman I want to marry. She is not into my looks like other ladies who are easily distracted by my stern look.

Carlos appreciated that fact that Melissa was the first woman as his personal assistant that never showed her body and cleavage in front of him. She never showed any flirtatious smile or acted whenever she was around him. Instead she stayed neutral smiled often and even treated him as a professional. And after what happened at the date. Mr. Carlos became even more and more concerned that Melissa was perfect woman for him because she wasn’t just smart but she also had a strong personality and had a brain on her mouth. MR. Carlos said,” I won’t let her go even if I have to double my effort to just convince her much I love her. I won’t hesitate to do it”. As Melissa returned back she couldn’t help her remember the little romantic moment she had with Carlos. However, she was also a little bit confused about Carlos. She kept wondering if Carlos was truly in love with her or it was just because he wanted to fulfill her mother’s wish as Oliver told her. Her mind was filled up with thought and confusion.

What if he’s not being honest? What if he’s just playing with ,y feelings? Or maybe he wants to use me to forget about the ex. Questions kept running through Melissa’s mind. Melissa said to herself. “Even if I am madly in love with Carlos but I want to be sure if his intention towards with me is real”.
