I grew up in a poor family. My foster mother worked tirelessly as a maid to support me. In order to climb out of poverty, I studied hard and got into a prestigious university. But not long after, my foster mother fell seriously ill and quickly racked up two hundred thousand dollars in medical expenses. I tried to borrow money, but instead, I only received humiliation and abuse. I hated my life. Why was I so incompetent? When I was at my most desperate point, I suddenly received a text message from the bank. "Mr. Larson, you've received $1,000,000,000 in your account." I was dumbfounded. A billion dollars? It had to be a scam! But then suddenly, a strange man called me. "Mathews, do you want to know how your biological mother died? Spend a billion dollars within the month, and I'll tell you everything!"

The Beginning Of My Life As A Billionaire Chapter 1 One Billion Dollars

"Mathews, when are you going to pay the bill? Your mother already owes the hospital over a hundred thousand dollars for her treatment!" Brent Kelly, the young doctor, asked impatiently, pointing at Mathews Larson's nose.

"You may be Debby's fiancé, but this is a hospital, not a welfare house!

If you don't pay the bill by today, then I will take your mother off the life support and kick her out of the hospital!"

Like a sharp knife, the doctor's words wounded Mathews' heart.

Mathews trembled with anger, clenching his fists, but he forced a smile and said, "Dr. Kelly, you know I'm really struggling here. Can't you give me some more time?"

A scornful smile traced over Brent's lips as he replied, "Give you more time? Do I look like some shopkeeper from the market whom you can bargain with?"

Brent was well aware that Mathews came from a poverty stricken family.

And that was what gave him the courage to bully poor Mathews so brutally.

In fact, Brent used to be Debby Coleman, neighbor of Mathews' fiancee.

And he had always had a secret crush on Debby, who was not only gorgeous, but also came from a strong family background. That was one of the reasons Brent wanted to pursue her.

However, before he had been able to make his move, Debby had already gotten engaged to Mathews.

"A loser like you doesn't deserve Debby at all."

Brent sneered, giving Mathews an ultimatum.

"I don't care whether you borrow, rob, or sell your organs to get the money. You must pay the hospital bill today!"

After saying that, Brent left.

Mathews stood there, livid, and gritting his teeth.

Brent had been enjoying making things difficult for Mathews ever since his adoptive got hospitalized.

And Mathews had no idea how or when he had offended Brent.

Staring at his adoptive mother, Rosa Astley, lying on the bed with tubes all over her body, Mathews swallowed his anger.

After all, if she had not risked her life to save him and raise him all those years, then he would have died a long time ago.

Mathews was grateful to her and wanted to pay her back for everything that she had done for him.

He took out his phone and dialed a number.

"Hello, Debby, I... I want to borrow some money from you... That is, about one hundred thousand dollars."

Debby was shopping with her mother, Patty Coleman, when Mathews called.

"Is it for your mother's medical fees? I..."

Before Debby could finish her words, Patty snatched her phone away and shouted, "One hundred thousand dollars? How dare you ask for that much, Mathews?

Our family has supported you and your invalid mother for more than 20 years now. Is this how you repay us?

You are a loser, a leech, who only knows to drain our family's fortune!

As for your mother, her life isn't even worth that much money!"

While she was talking, the luxury store's shop assistant bowed to her and said, holding a delicate box in her hand, "Here is your bag, Mrs. Coleman. I have packed everything for you."

Patty looked at her and nodded casually before she took out her credit card and handed it to her.

"120, 000 dollars, right? How cheap! Here, take this card!"

Patty wanted to continue insulting Mathews, but Debby could not stand it at all, so she grabbed the phone back.

"Don't worry, Mathews. I'll figure out a way to solve the problem."

Mathews had mixed feelings as he heard the busy tone on the other end.

In Patty's eyes...

His mother's life wasn't even worth 100, 000 dollars!

However, she found a stupid bag worth 120, 000 bucks to be cheap?

The very thought made his heart explode with anger.

All of a sudden, he got a message from the Hlas Bank. "Greetings, Mr. Larson! 1, 000, 000, 000 dollars has been deposited into your bank account with the last three digits 107."

I married Clive Harrington, the coldest billionaire in Manhattan, under a strict contract that forbade any emotional burdens. When I needed a high-risk surgery to save my sight, I checked into the clinic alone, hiding the procedure from a husband who saw me as nothing more than a legal asset. I thought I could handle the darkness in silence. But while I was blind and bandaged in my hospital bed, my biological mother called, screaming that if I didn't produce a Harrington heir by the end of the fiscal year, she would cut off the life-saving treatments for my disabled sister. I was crawling on the cold hospital floor, desperately feeling for a cane I had dropped, when I touched a pair of expensive leather shoes. It was Clive. He was supposed to be in London closing a multi-million dollar deal, but there he was, watching his "contract wife" groveling in the dark like a beggar. He didn't walk away in disgust. He carried me to a five-thousand-dollar-a-night VIP suite and sat by my bed, listening in chilling silence as another voicemail from my mother filled the room, calling me a "useless broodmare" who was only worth the trust fund disbursements my marriage secured. I expected him to remind me of Clause 34B or hand me divorce papers now that I was "damaged goods." Instead, I felt his thumb brush a stray tear from my cheek, his presence shifting from a statue of ice into a predatory shield. "I thought I was just currency to you," I whispered, my voice trembling behind the gauze. "Just an investment." Clive didn't answer with words. He picked up his phone and called his head of legal with a single, terrifying command: "Kill the Douglas family’s credit lines. Every debt, every lien—trigger them all. If they want a war, I’ll give them a massacre." As he leaned down to kiss my bandaged forehead, I realized the contract was dead. My husband wasn't protecting an asset anymore; he was hunting the people who had dared to touch what belonged to him.

For two years, I was the invisible force behind tech billionaire Kieran Douglas, convinced that our "private" romance was his way of protecting us from the tabloid spotlight. I managed his mergers, warmed his bed, and waited for a future that didn't exist. The illusion shattered at 6:00 AM when a Page Six alert debuted Kieran’s "real" romance with socialite Aspen Schneider. Before I could even process the betrayal, Kieran sent me a cold, professional text: "Order flowers for Aspen. Pink peonies. Her favorite." When I tried to walk away, my own mother called me a disgrace and threatened to lock my inheritance forever unless I married a sixty-year-old businessman to save her failing estate. At a high-society gala that same night, Aspen intentionally crushed my burned hand in front of the cameras, while Kieran stood by and dismissed me as a "mediocre assistant" who had overstayed her welcome. I stood in the cold New York rain, drenched in champagne and humiliation, realizing that every sacrifice I made for Kieran was a joke. I was a ghost in a penthouse that was never mine, discarded the moment his "soulmate" returned. To the world, I was just a placeholder whose time had run out. But Kieran forgot one thing: my father’s multi-million dollar trust fund unlocks the moment I legally marry. I didn't need love; I needed a signature and a shield. I walked into a discreet law firm and signed a marriage contract with a man I believed was the city’s most notorious, scandal-ridden playboy. I thought I was marrying a degenerate "beard" to buy my freedom and secure my revenge. I didn't realize the man who signed that paper wasn't a playboy at all, but Gaston Collins—the most powerful and dangerous man on Wall Street—and he had no intention of letting our fake marriage stay fake.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

I was the titan of Wall Street until an indictment and an ankle monitor turned my penthouse into a gilded cage. To save face, I was forced into a marriage with Elza, a "mute" girl from the Schmidt family whom I treated as nothing more than a silent piece of furniture while my empire crumbled. The night I was poisoned at a high-society gala, a mysterious server in an oversized uniform saved my life with terrifying, clinical precision. They disappeared into the night, leaving me with a silver cufflink and a burning obsession to find the shadow who held my life in their hands. Back home, I took my frustration out on Elza, telling her she was "exhausting to look at" and "smelled like sickness" after her charity visits. Her own family treated her like a stray dog, trying to humiliate her at the next gala by dressing her in what they claimed was a cheap knockoff while whispering to the press that she was nothing but a high-end escort. "Stay out of my way," I would growl at her, never noticing the steel in her eyes. I sat at my table, watching my rivals' stocks plummet and wondering who "The Zero"—the legendary financial ghost—really was. I never suspected that the woman I ignored was the same one solving the equations that were currently burning Manhattan to the ground. The injustice peaked when Elza stood before the city's elite, not as a victim, but as a queen. She dropped over a hundred million dollars to buy back her family’s legacy, revealing a secret fortune that made my own empire look like pocket change. As I grabbed her wrist and saw the small red mole hidden beneath her watch, the truth hit me like a physical blow. The silent wife I had despised was the savior I had been hunting, and she was finally done playing the victim. "We have a lot to talk about, wife," I whispered, realizing I had been sleeping next to the most dangerous woman in the world.
