Eric Brian is a poor guy who became the son-in-law of a rich family. His dad risked his life to save Alia Brown from a car crash but unfortunate for him, he was knocked down and suffered severe injuries. Alia's husband, Mr. Brown asked him to make his last wish before he dies. His wish shocked the Brown family. He requested Alia's only daughter, Arianna be married to his son Eric Brian. The Brown family disliked the idea because Arianna had marriage plans with Andrew Whicker who is the grandson of the Great Robert Whicker, besides, they never dreamed of giving their beautiful daughter to a useless poor guy. The Brown family had no option than to give Arianna to Eric because the media was circulating the wish in the country. It would be a disgrace to their family and reduce their Company's income if they repay the hero badly in front of the media. They gave Eric to Arianna but decided to treat him cruelly and badly in order for Eric to claim for a divorce. In so doing, Arianna will get the opportunity to marry the grandson of the most wealthiest family in the country. Arianna made Eric drunk and took nude pictures of him together with their house help which served as a source of evidence for a break up to happen. After the breakup, it happened to be that, Eric was actually the true grandson of the Great Robert Whicker. The news was to be announced on the wedding day of Andrew and Arianna!

Chapter 1 The regretted wish

CHAPTER 1

Eric Brian sat on a wooden chair embedded in withered leaves under an isolated tree, he felt the gentle breeze around him. The combination of the temporal peace and the gentle breeze was the best feeling one would ever have from an annoying wife. As Eric was enjoying his peace, the memories of his parents, took away the ecstasy and replaced it with worry. He recalled how his father died from saving a woman who would become his mother-in-law. An evil mother-in-law who despises the son of the man who risked his life to save her?! How the hell should she hate her savior just because he is poor!!

"What a crazy world to live in. A rich man will never sacrifice his life to save a poor man, but a poor man will sacrifice his life to save a rich man hmm....." He grievously mumbled.

Eric's mom died when he was young, from lung cancer. His mom never took him to his grandparents.

Anytime he asked, his mom would say "We have your dad and he is enough". She would bring up another conversation to screw everything up.

As a child, he confused his mom's death to be caused by his daily nagging of the same question, especially the coughs that follow after asking his mom about his grandparents.

He apologized to his dad for being the cause of his mother's death and promised never to ask him too.

"Hey, you useless broke man! Who are you waiting to clear all the dishes? Ida asked out sarcastically.

Eric gritted his teeth. He knew his quiet time is ruined by the lazy maid who shirks all her duties on him.

As a poor son-in-law, he is not respected by anyone in the family, not even the house help. None of these ill-treatments are bothered by his wife Arianna. Who cares even if the house dog sh*ts in front of him?

Eric has no choice but to get up and get the dishes cleaned before his mother-in-law who is the god of the house sees it.

The entire family turned into thunderous laughter as Eric sneaked into the Kitchen behind the parlor.

"Hey! Come back here, you broke useless man", Carlos, Arianna's brother called out.

Eric was irritated by the harsh call and the bad attributes given to him all the time, but who is he to react to Alias's pompous son?

In the parlor is the Manager of Supreme Company who is the only grandson of Robert Whicker the wealthiest man in Greenhill city. Andrew Whicker was the man pleased by the Brown family to marry their daughter Arianna. Unfortunately, something happened which caused the Brown family to give their only daughter to Eric Brian the son of a poor man called, Jude Brian.

11 months ago, a poor hero called Jude Brian saved the life of a rich woman called Mrs. Alia Brown from being knocked down by a car. He saved the woman but couldn't save himself. He was rushed to the hospital and the news spread throughout the country. The doctors diagnosed him as having severe brain bleeding which would cost his life. Seeing the selfless sacrifice of this poor man, Mr. Brown, the husband of the woman he saved, told the doctors to request from him his last wish.

The doctors came with a shocking response to the rich Brown family.

"Mr. Brown, he requested your daughter should be given to his son in marriage," the doctors said

"Can you please ask of his second wish?" Mr. Brown perplexedly asked.

"I am sorry but.... I should say erm... Mr. Jude has given up the ghost" one of the doctors sadly replied.

The Brown family has no option but to marry their daughter to the poor son of Jude Brian.

Previously, Alia disliked the idea and told the family not to do as he has requested, but the media was circulating the wish across the country. It would be a big shame to their family and affect their company "Megdon" adversely if they don't do as the wish says. It wouldn't be good to repay bad to a hero who risked his life to save her in the eyes of the population.

The family agreed to grant the wish by letting their only beautiful daughter be married to Eric Brian but later treat him badly till he divorces their daughter.

This is how Eric got to marry Arianna instead of Andrew Whicker.

"Haven't you seen a rich young manager before?" Carlos uttered

"His dad should have taught him how to identify one before dying" added Mrs. Alia.

Eric got furious when they teased his dad in their sarcastic talks but he has no choice but to clench his teeth and grit his fist beside himself.

"I've got to teach this family an important lesson one day," Eric muttered.

Andrew suddenly burst into laughter "I bet you, this damn man is talking to his dead father"

The entire family also joined Andrew in his laughter. Eric got more irritated and nearly exploded but he walked out of them to prevent his fist from causing trouble for him.

As he walked out, his mind was clouded with a whole lot of stuff. He loved his dad but despised him for making this terrible wish for him. He hated to marry the Brown family because he knows how the rich trample on the poor. If his dad was alive and knew what he was going through, he would have requested nothing from that rich family. A part of him was yearning for a divorce but a part of him wanted to keep his dad's wish.

Eric got out of the mansion and headed to the isolated tree where he sat in the morning recalling his memories. As soon as he sat on the wooden chair, he remembered the last thing his dad told him before vanishing into the thin air "Son, go to... Harold"

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I woke up in a blindingly white hotel penthouse with a throbbing headache and the taste of betrayal in my mouth. The last thing I remembered was my stepsister, Cathie, handing me a flute of champagne at the charity gala with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. Now, a tall, dangerously handsome man walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his hips. On the nightstand sat a stack of hundred-dollar bills. My stepmother had finally done it—she drugged me and staged a scandal with a hired escort to destroy my reputation and my future. "Aisha! Is it true you spent the night with a gigolo?" The shouts of a dozen reporters echoed through the heavy oak door as camera flashes exploded through the peephole. My phone lit up with messages showing my bank accounts were already frozen. My father was invoking the 'morality clause' in my mother’s trust fund, and my fiancé had already released a statement dumping me to marry my stepsister instead. I was trapped, penniless, and being hunted by the press for a scandal I hadn't even participated in. My own family had sold me out for a payday, and the man standing in front of me was the only witness who could prove I was innocent—or finish me off for good. I didn't have time to cry. According to the fine print of the trust, I had thirty days to prove my "rehabilitation" through a legal marriage or I would lose everything. I tracked the man down to a coffee shop the next morning, watching him take a thick envelope of cash from a wealthy older woman. I sat across from him and slid a napkin with a $50,000 figure written on it. "I need a husband. Legal, paper-signed, and convincing." He looked at the number, then at me, a slow, crooked smile spreading across his face. I thought I was hiring a desperate gigolo to save my inheritance. I had no idea I was actually proposing to Dominic Fields, the reclusive billionaire shark who was currently planning a hostile takeover of my father’s entire empire.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.
