Blurb: "Here." He threw an envelope of a substantial amount on the table. "What! You want to pay me off for that?" I said, angrily. "Yeah. Isn't that enough?" He said, looking like he didn't care. I slapped him hard. "Keep your filthy money" I said, through clenched teeth and walked out. The story centers on Savannah Louis who lives her life working to save up for her sick brother's medical fee. One of the part time jobs she had was working at a pub house. That was where she met Andy Norman who wasn't emotionally available since the time his last girlfriend broke up with him. He slept with different women and gave them money as compensation. They met at the bar she worked at and had an unplanned one night stand and found out later that she was pregnant for him. Andy who doesn't believe in love, nor is he ready to settle down leaves us wondering if he would accept the pregnancy or Savannah would have to raise the baby alone and have more burdening responsibilities.

Chapter 1 The beginning

It was raining heavily, and Savannah Louis was packing her little things. She had been called by her brother's doctor requesting for her presence at the hospital. Savannah quickly got out of the shop after taking permission from her boss.

She opened the glassy door of her shop and got outside, so many people were moving about in the rain. Some were with an umbrella, others were using their hands as an umbrella as they were all looking for shelter.

She saw a cab pass by but didn't stop it, she needed to save money for her brother's treatment. Savannah hung her bag tightly across her shoulder and joined the people who were in the rain without an umbrella.

She was running very fast as the rain poured down heavily, it didn't seem to take pity on the young lady who was distressed. Savannah was crying as she ran hastily, her tears were mixing up with the rain.

She got to the hospital half an hour later, soaked by the rain. She smiled to herself because she had won over the rain, which wanted to be a barrier to her today.

Her auburn hair was wet, she brought out a scarf from the bag she had kept hidden under her shirt and dried her hair with the scarf. She then squeezed her cloth, making water splash on the tiled floor.

She went into the hospital and rushed towards her brother's ward, he was sleeping soundly when she got there. A nurse was in the ward, giving a little boy of about ten years old an injection. The little boy was crying loudly, and Savannah couldn't help but frown. She didn't like the way the little boy was crying, what if he wakes her brother?

"Miss," she looked behind her to see a nurse standing with a tray of medical instruments in it.

"Yes nurse? Is there a problem?" Savannah asked.

"The doctor requests to see you once you arrive,'' the nurse said.

"Oh thank you," Savannah said and faked a smile. "I'll go in and meet him right now,'' she added and stood up from her seat. She glanced at her brother for a long time, not willing to leave him alone but after a while she left for the doctor.

She got to the doctor's office and stared at the door. She was hesitant for a while, scared of what the doctor might tell her. She mustered up courage and knocked on the door, she was asked to come in by the doctor.

Furthermore, she opened the door and went into the office. She found the doctor, a young man in his thirties, going through a file. He was wearing a spectacle and his white coat was hung around his chair. The doctor looked up when he saw her.

"Hello Miss Louis," the doctor greeted with a smile. "Come and have your seat," he added. Savannah twitched her lips and dragged herself towards the doctor. Water dripped from her clothes as she moved closer to the doctor.

"Hello doctor," she forced herself to reply at the doctor's greeting. She took a seat opposite him, shivering lightly.

"You know the reason you are here, Miss Louis," the doctor started and shifted his spectacle to get a clear view of the girl in front of him.

"Yes doctor," Savannah replied.

"But I would have to alert you that your brother's health is deteriorating, Miss Louis. He needs more medications, the one you are currently paying for is too little,'' he said, sounding frustrated. Savannah twitched her lips and fiddled with the hem of her cloth, trying to hide her embarrassment.

"I'm deeply sorry about that doctor," she said.

"You don't have to be sorry, Miss Louis," the doctor said. "What I am trying to say is that you need to add more money for your brother's medication! He has been here for a long time, Miss Louis!" The doctor said, anger rising in his tone. Savannah could do nothing but cry.

She sniffed back her tears and stood up from her seat, with a heavy thud, she fell on her knees.

"Please doctor, give me a little more time and I will surely pay the bills and get my brother out of here!" She pleaded and cleaned her tears with the back of her palm.

She went to see the doctor, and he told her that her brother needed more medications, and she was providing too little. He asked her to do something about it, if she wanted her brother to get better and pass this sickness stage.

The doctor looked at her in pity and was lost in thoughts. He exhaled loudly as he stared at the girl in front of him.

"Stand up, Miss Louis," the doctor said. "Please stand up, I don't like the way you are kneeling on the floor," he added.

"Doctor please, give us a little more time and I will surely pay the money!" She said,

"You've said this word countless times and later came back with an excuse," the doctor said, sounding pissed.

"It's a promise this time, doctor! I will surely pay my brother's medical bills!" She said,

"Then stand up!" Savannah quickly stood up from the floor. "You have just a week to pay your brother's hospital bills, Miss Louis. Just a week, after that week, there will be no more chances for you," the doctor said.

Savannah looked at him, grateful he had given her another chance to look for money, so she could pay her brother's medical bills. She dashed out of the doctor's office after thanking him.

She stopped by her brother's ward, he was still sleeping.

"I promise you will be alright, Danny," she said with determination. She kissed his forehead and walked out of the ward, looking determined to bring her brother out of the hospital.

The rain was still dropping, but it was not as heavy as it had been on her way to the hospital. Savannah glanced at the hospital as she stood in front of it. She was sad about the news she had just heard, she wasn't earning enough and didn't know what to do.

She thought about a solution and later decided to visit her friend Lucy, who was a part-time bartender.

I woke up in a blindingly white hotel penthouse with a throbbing headache and the taste of betrayal in my mouth. The last thing I remembered was my stepsister, Cathie, handing me a flute of champagne at the charity gala with a smile that didn't reach her eyes. Now, a tall, dangerously handsome man walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his hips. On the nightstand sat a stack of hundred-dollar bills. My stepmother had finally done it—she drugged me and staged a scandal with a hired escort to destroy my reputation and my future. "Aisha! Is it true you spent the night with a gigolo?" The shouts of a dozen reporters echoed through the heavy oak door as camera flashes exploded through the peephole. My phone lit up with messages showing my bank accounts were already frozen. My father was invoking the 'morality clause' in my mother’s trust fund, and my fiancé had already released a statement dumping me to marry my stepsister instead. I was trapped, penniless, and being hunted by the press for a scandal I hadn't even participated in. My own family had sold me out for a payday, and the man standing in front of me was the only witness who could prove I was innocent—or finish me off for good. I didn't have time to cry. According to the fine print of the trust, I had thirty days to prove my "rehabilitation" through a legal marriage or I would lose everything. I tracked the man down to a coffee shop the next morning, watching him take a thick envelope of cash from a wealthy older woman. I sat across from him and slid a napkin with a $50,000 figure written on it. "I need a husband. Legal, paper-signed, and convincing." He looked at the number, then at me, a slow, crooked smile spreading across his face. I thought I was hiring a desperate gigolo to save my inheritance. I had no idea I was actually proposing to Dominic Fields, the reclusive billionaire shark who was currently planning a hostile takeover of my father’s entire empire.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
