Chapter 1 1

"Ms. Sky, you have cancer..."

My face was pale as I asked the doctor, "Om what did you say?"

The doctor pressed his arm over my medical reports and pronounced each word accurately. "Mrs. Sky, your uterus was not fully healed when you had the abortion two years ago. Then, you had an infection and that caused the cells in your uterus to become cancerous..."

I interrupted him with tears in my eyes, "How much time do I have left?"

"The cancer cells are spreading. You have at most about 6 months to live."

I couldn't hear anything else the doctor was saying. My mind buzzed loudly and the words "little time left to live" reverberated in my mind....

That night in Sky Village:

I threw myself on the bed like a corpse, burying my head in the pillow. My heart was filled with sadness.

The person who had sex with me was my husband, Carlos Sky.

For two whole long years, he did whatever he wanted and came out with a cold expression on his face every time he visited.

He never said anything from beginning to end.

Just like today, he had changed his suit when he came out of his shower and was about to leave.

I called his name softly.

He pursed his thin lips and looked at me indifferently.

When I confronted him and looked him straight in the eye, everything I wanted to say got stuck in my throat. In the end, I mumbled, "Go carefully."

I could hear the car being started downstairs. I got out of bed to look at the black car pulling away and called Carlos.

He answered and asked impatiently, "What's the matter?"

Carlos and I had been married for three years. He liked another woman when he married me, but my father-in-law threatened his wife with death and forced him to marry me.

For two years he treated me very coldly and cruelly.

Even when he was with me, he thought of the other. Her name was Suzana Lincon.

I remember that I was only 16 years old when I fell in love with Carlos. It was the early stages of love. When you love someone, you put that person in your heart. At that time he was a teacher.

Even today I still don't know why I fell in love with a man like that, full of reasons, 10 years older than me. Maybe it was because he was handsome and soft-spoken and affectionate, or maybe it was because the first time I heard him, his voice sounded so soft in my ears and awakened me to a world I had no knowledge of at all.

I cannot really say what the real reason was. That year, I followed Carlos for several months until he left his classroom and I couldn't find him anymore.

I couldn't even ask his name.

In the years that followed, I could no longer find that beautiful teacher, so the patriarch of the Sky family came to the Moon company and asked me to be his daughter-in-law.

The Moon family was very rich, they were the most powerful family in Seattle, I was born into the Moon family. Before I met Carlos, my parents died in a boating accident and their bodies were never found.

And suddenly I became the most powerful person in Seattle.

And it was at the most difficult moment of my life that I met the powerful Carlos Sky.

We had met so many times before that he knew I was following him, yet he treated me like any other student and never bothered by my presence, nor did he try to throw me out any of the times. At night he would gently say, "Miss, it's time to go home or your parents will be coming after you soon. It's dangerous to be out there alone."

My heart warmed as I remembered the past.

I felt that Carlos was sweet and caring back then.

I closed my eyes. My biggest regret was that I had accepted to get engaged to Carlos three years ago, after being asked by my father-in-law. I didn't want to because there were many families that wanted to join mine through marriage.

But Mr. Sky showed me a picture. When I saw that familiar face, my heart twisted hard and I began to feel it palpitate.

Because that was the man I thought about every night.

So I made a bold bet.

I bet that Carlos Sky would marry me.

I bet that even if there was no love in our marriage, we would respect each other and treat each other with civility.

I bet that he would take care of me and have concern for me like a normal husband would.

I didn't imagine it would be like this, with him humiliating me all the time.

A year ago, he even ordered someone to get rid of the child, he didn't even care about me, how I felt, he was just rude to me in front of the doctor and that was it: "Natalia Moon you are not ready to be the mother of my son".

Carlos Sky hated me, hated me so much that he got rid of our son!

He had forgotten, but I didn't...

He had forgotten about that little girl who ran after him day and night.

For him, I used the power of my family name to get his father to ask for my hand in marriage, to become his wife and to push away the woman he truly loved.

For Carlos, I was just someone who kept him away from his great love.

I kept thinking about what happened in the past. Perhaps I had been silent too long, Carlos admonished me grimly, "Do not challenge my good will. You know I have no patience with you."

I came back to reality and forced the pain I felt in my heart. I said Carlos Sky in a low voice, let's make a deal.

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé. Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now-billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn't mind. I'd crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one? Wrong. One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That's when it hit me-he didn't love me. He didn't even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn't even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup. So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster-my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise. Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol. Enter him. Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I'd met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes. It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised. But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life. And, as it turned out, the best decision I'd ever made. Because my one-night stand isn't just some random guy. He's richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with. And now, he's not letting me go.

My stepmother sold me like a piece of inventory to a man known for breaking people just to plug the financial crater my father left behind. I was delivered to the Morton estate in the middle of a freezing storm, stripped of my phone, and told that if I didn't make myself useful, my senile grandfather would be evicted from his care facility by noon. The master of the house, Adonis Morton IV, was a monster living in a silent mausoleum, driven to the brink of madness by a sensory condition that turned every sound into a physical assault. When I was forced into his suite to serve him, he didn't see a human being; he saw a source of agony. In a fit of animalistic rage, he pinned me to the wall and nearly strangled me to death just for the sound of a shattering teacup. I only survived by using my grandfather’s secret herbal blends and pressure-point therapy to force his overactive nervous system into a drugged sleep. But saving him was my greatest mistake. Instead of letting me go, Adonis moved me into a guest suite connected to his own bedroom by a hidden door. He didn't just want me as a servant; he needed me as a human white-noise machine to drown out the demons in his head. The nightmare deepened when he took the promissory note that defined my freedom and tore it into confetti. By destroying the debt, he destroyed my exit strategy. He replaced my maid’s uniform with a silver silk dress that clung to my skin but did nothing to hide the dark, ugly bruises his fingers had left on my neck. He branded me as his "primary care associate," a title that was nothing more than a gilded cage. I felt a sickening sense of injustice as he forced me to sign a contract that banned me from contacting other men and required me to sleep wherever he slept. He looked at me with a possessive heat, calling me his "medication" rather than a woman. My family had sold my body, but Adonis Morton was intent on owning my very presence, using my grandfather’s medical bills as a leash to keep me within twenty feet of him at all times. Standing in a neglected greenhouse with mud staining my expensive silk, I realized I was no longer a victim waiting for rescue. If I was going to be his medication, I would learn how to be his cure—or his undoing. I began clearing the weeds with a cold, calculated frenzy, determined to turn this prison into my laboratory. He thinks he has trapped a helpless girl, but I am going to pry open the cracks in his stone walls until his entire world comes crashing down.
