(Alphas & Mates Series Book 1) Kyla comes from a generation of trained hunters who hunt bad wolves and bad vampires, but are also friends with good vamps and good wolves! She is a trained hunter. But fter evil vampires destroy her home and kill some of her people, Kyla will do anything to protect what's left. Even if it means surrendering her virginity to someone who is not her mate - a mean, moody, lone wolf. Lucas doesn't like packs anymore, he's a retired alpha, but from the moment he sees Kyla, he wants her. There's something about this curvaceous human hunter. Her people could stay under his wings if she agreed to be his playmate. All she had to do was obey him. He could have her body. She bows to hate him. He didn't care if she hated him as long as she was lying on his bed, kneeling, or in any position he wanted. But what happens when the full moon arrives? Vampires and wolves are closing in, and packs causes trouble. Will Lucas be strong enough to fight for Kyla and her people?

Chapter 1 1- Want In Exchange

This is crazy. Kyla Hunt's rage boiled over as she stared at the ruthless jerk across the large dining room. "You can't be serious," she said.

"I don't want your people to stink around me. I don't trust in humans who travel and hunt in groups."

She scoffed. "I told you why we had to move. The vampires are approaching. We have lost so many good men and good women. It was a miracle we're able to get the kids out in time."

Human hunters are rare, but one of them betrayed them. For food and money, he gave them all the information the vampires needed to attack them. Her father and brother were not ready at that time.

This bloody battle will always be with her. It took them a few weeks to stumble across this town. There are not many local people, and they have been sticking to the forest, waiting for the opportunity to slowly join the community, but this man named Lucas West rejected themi.

His scent covered the town, the forest, and the surrounding area. No sign of any other wolves, just him. Her father and brother had come and been refused residence. Now Kyla is standing in his large house, which is more of a palace, trying to reason with him.

Her family and people, they are all tired. Fatigue can mean bad news for the human body. If it's their turn to get too tired, the vampires will come and take over completely and they're at the mercy of their enemies until they're all dead.

"Do I look like I care?" He poked out a piece of steak and stuffed it into his mouth, keeping his eyes on her.

She held up her hands in surrender. "Sorry for wasting your time. We'll be leaving tomorrow morning. The children are not physically fit for more journey." Kyla didn't know what she had to do to get them moving. She ran her fingers through her hair and turned to leave.

"Are you not going to give me anything?" Lucas asked.

Kyla stopped and looked at him. "E—excuse me?"

"You are the daughter of the chief hunter, am I right?"

"Yes."

"Do you think you can't offer me some peace offerings? Or convince me to let you and those squatters stay?"

"We are not squatters!" Anger rushed up her spine. The need to protect her people is strong, but she also knows that if she fights this man, there is no way she can win.

She is strong, but not yet at his level. He smelled an Alpha. It came out of him in wave after wave, and the smell was so strong that it almost swallowed everything in him. "What do you want? Money?"

"I don't need money."

"Is someone coming to clear your land? We can do it for you."

"No."

This moment gets even more confusing for Kyla. "If you didn't need someone to clear your land or your house, what would you want?"

"I want someone to play with."

This made her frown."E—excuse me?"

He was a grown man, and she very much doubted that he meant playmates.

Lucas sat back down. His gaze swept across her body and then returned to her face.

She knew that as a human being, her blood was rare. Female humans in this era are mostly slender. Kyla had always been a chubby woman with a curvaceous figure. She was bigger when she was a toddler and put on even more weight as a teenager.

After the transformation, she retained all her curves and was one of the curvy women in the group. Her mother was also a curvaceous woman, and Kyla's father doted on her.

Kyla hopes to find her love for herself. She has yet to find a protector. No one in the family made claims of their own and certainly didn't have a strong sense of mating with anyone.

"You know what I mean,"

he said.

"Then be blunt."

"I want someone to play with, um, someone to fuck." His words echoed in the huge hall.

Kyla has been very nervous. "Is this straightforward enough for you? Are you joking?"

"I don't make fun of sex."

She looked over his shoulder. "Do you want to choose women among my people?" For their safety, it is impossible for her to ask anyone to sleep with this man.

"It's not possible."

"Certainly not."

"I want you."

"E—excuse me?"

"You heard it. I want you, no one else," he laughed. "Kyla, be my toy, my plaything, and you and those low-rank ones can stay here forever."

She glared at him. "Don't call them the low ranks."

He shrugged. She couldn't believe she heard this. He's too crazy. He wanted her to be his—toy, and in return, her family and her people would be safe.

"What does it mean? Do I have to go to you every time you call?" she asked.

Lucas sighed. "No, that means your family and hunters will stay here, and so will you. You will not return to your family. You will stay here with me. You will be mine for as long as I see fit."

"When you get bored with me?"

"Depending on how much you have served me, you and your family may remain on my land."

She hates this.

"What if I say no?"

"You go away with your people."

"You don't give me any choice here."

Lucas smiled. "Yes. You don't have any choice. Do you think I should let you stay here out of kindness?"

"Yes. Maybe."

"Our world doesn't work that way."

"Don't you have anyone to protect? Don't you understand the family bond?"

"I know being with a group or pack is fucking vicious," Lucas growled with every word. He no longer looked calm and collected. Now he looks ready to kill. "Because you have set foot on my land, I have the right to kill you all." His every word growled, and she felt his anger.

This man is powerful. He clearly showed alpha tendencies, and Kyla fell to her knees.

"Please. I beg you," she said.

"You beg all you want, Kyla, but that's my only condition. For your people to stay, you'll belong to me."

"Do I have time to—think?" she asked.

He snorted. Your family has a price."

"I should have known."

Her body to save her family!

"You ask me to give my body for my family and people, but I don't— I can't even tell them?"

"Do you think they will allow you to give yourself to me," he asked. "Is your family selfish enough?"

"No," she said without hesitation.

"So, they won't let you. They will move from here to there with danger after them because of their feelings for you, risking death and chaos. Hmmm." He giggled. "And do you need to think about it?"
