PROLOGUE

Max I'm going crazy from waiting all this time. I don't understand why my wife and I cannot enter the delivery room. The doctor emerged from the delivery room, as the door abruptly opened while I was still pacing back and forth outside. "Mr. Jeo..." he started, but I interrupted him. How are my wife and our child doing, doctor? Can I now see them? Did they make it? What caused the delay? I inquired right away. "The infant is doing nicely, Mr. Jeo. His words made my face flush, "She's perfectly healthy...but I'm so sorry to inform you that your wife didn't make it." God, no... it's not my wife. "She gave birth under too much stress for her heart to take. Her heart broke. The doctor said, "We did everything we could to save her, but it was not possible. "She was aware of the dangers. I've repeatedly assured her that there was very little to no chance she would survive this. Mr. Jeo, I apologise." I grimaced. "Relax. What topic are you discussing?" Perplexed, I asked him what she meant. With understanding, she said, "She never told you..." "Mr. Jeo, there was a cardiac issue with your wife. We refer to her condition as cardiomyopathy. Since the beginning of the pregnancy, I have advised her to consider ending it early because there is a high probability that she won't survive to give birth. She added that there was a good chance she may experience a heart arrest before giving birth. "I instructed her to discuss it with you. I thus assumed you were both aware of the hazards when she returned to tell me that you both chose to carry on with the pregnancy." "She never told me," I said to myself. How was she not able to tell me this? Could she lie to me? Pain, anger, and confusion. My thoughts were racing with all these feelings. I was at a loss for what to think or do.
