The Mafia Queen Chapter 1 One

Clang!

The sound of the gates closing was heard as a red haired lady stepped out of the prison yard. She had a bright smile on her face as she walked out to get her things.

"I hope we don't see you again Gabriela." The man handing her her things smiled at her and she chuckled slightly before collecting her bag.

She stepped out to the parSantos lot where she had expected her boyfriend, James, to be waiting for her but she was met by no one.

"Should I get you a taxi?" The worker who stopped next to her asked and she smiled at him before declining politely.

She turned on her phone and a slight smile crept up her lips as she looked at the wallpaper. It was the picture of her and James on their two years anniversary date.

She hadn't used a phone in five years because of being stuck in the prison after she was thrown there for no reason five years ago.

"James." She said excitedly as the person she was calling answered the call. "You should be here by now. Have you forgotten I'll be getting out of prison today?"

"No babe, I didn't forget but something important came up so I couldn't be there yet and I don't know when I'll be back. Maybe you should take a taxi home." He said from the other end of the phone and her excited face turned to a sad one before she hummed and hung up.

"Gabriela." A familiar voice called her and she looked up to see her best friend, Camilla leaning against her white sports car.

Camilla was wearing a white suit with the jacket hung over her shoulders. She looked like a business woman with a bright smile up her lips.

"Camilla." Gabriela rushed to her and pulled her into a hug. Camilla rubbed her back gently as tears of joy rolled down their eyes.

"It's so good to finally see you out of prison. I've been waiting for this day for years." Camilla sniffed as she wiped her tears.

"It's so good to see you and hug you. It's so good to finally get out of those prison clothes. Geez." Gabriela twirled and Camilla chuckled.

"I didn't know you'd be coming to get me. I thought James would." Gabriela sighed and the look on Camilla's face changed and Gabriela could tell something was wrong.

"What's wrong? Did something happen to James?" Gabriela asked.

"You look lean, Gabriela. Weren't you fed well in there?" Camilla tried to change the topic.

"The food wasn't enough but I've gotten used to it. I can't wait to try home-made dishes." Gabriela smiled gently before returning to James's topic.

"What about James? You haven't told me about him." Gabriela said as she got into the car next to Camilla who already rushed in.

"It's..."

"Don't tell me it's nothing because there clearly is something." Gabriela cut her off before she could say nothing was wrong.

"Well Gabriela, promise me you won't throw a tantrum if I tell you." Camilla said as she rested her back and turning off the engine.

"I'm not like that anymore Camilla. I'm no longer a kid." Gabriela sighed and Camilla looked at her with doubt. "Trust me."

"Remember that lady you slapped back in the club that day and got you arrested for assault?" Camilla asked and Gabriela rolled her eyes before nodding affirmatively.

"James and her kinda dated after you left. They have been together since all these years and now they are getting married today. James is at the wedding so he couldn't pick you up to continue you guys secretly dating or break up with you."

Everything seemed to crash around Gabriela immediately she heard everything Camilla said. That couldn't be possible. She trusted James. He would never do anything of such to her but Camilla would never lie about something like that.

Camilla seemed to understand what was going on in her head so she took her phone and showed the screen to Gabriela who looked at it. It was a picture of her boyfriend and a lady smiling beautifully as she looked up at James.

Under the photo, a caption. "Soon to be newlyweds. James and Isabel."

Gabriela suddenly felt angry and she felt the urge to go over to him and beat the hell out of him. "Take me to him Camilla."

"What did you say?" Camilla asked her, shocked. "Don't tell me I heard you right Gabriela. Are you crazy? You want to wreck the wedding so you'll end up in jail for life?"

"I don't care." Gabriela frowned with her fists clenched.

"But Gabriela, this isn't right. There's nothing we can do about Isabel getting married to James. I'm not as influential as they are and your company has fallen." Camilla said nervously and Gabriela glared at her which made her gulp.

"If it's about the influence, whatever." Gabriela took her phone out of her bag and dialed a number offhand and it rang for a few seconds before the receiver took the call.

"Yes. Right now." Gabriela said before hanging up. "Take me to Starlight boutique please."

Camilla obediently did as her friend asked before she threw a tantrum. Camilla stayed in the car as Gabriela stepped into the boutique and got out after a few minutes.

She was dressed in a black shirt, white suit trousers and its jacket hanging over her shoulders. She had dark shades on and her hair was combed to one side.

She looked like a badass CEO who was oozing out a very dangerous aura. "Please Camilla, take me to the wedding venue."

"Why are you dressed like you're going to arrest them all?" Camilla giggled and a wicked smirk formed on Gabriela's lips as she hummed.

"Let's see what will happen when we get there Camilla." Gabriela said as she got into the car and Camilla looked confused but entered the car anyways.

"Don't do anything crazy Gabriela." Camilla sighed as she drove towards one of the well known hotels in the city. Dynamic Hotel.

I stood at my mother's open grave in the freezing rain, my heels sinking into the mud. The space beside me was empty. My husband, Hilliard Holloway, had promised to cherish me in bad times, but apparently, burying my mother didn't fit into his busy schedule. While the priest's voice droned on, a news alert lit up my phone. It was a livestream of the Metropolitan Charity Gala. There was Hilliard, looking impeccable in a custom tuxedo, with his ex-girlfriend Charla English draped over his arm. The headline read: "Holloway & English: A Power Couple Reunited?" When he finally returned to our penthouse at 2 AM, he didn't come alone-he brought Charla with him. He claimed she'd had a "medical emergency" at the gala and couldn't be left alone. I found a Tiffany diamond necklace on our coffee table meant for her birthday, and a smudge of her signature red lipstick on his collar. When I confronted him, he simply told me to stop being "hysterical" and "acting like a child." He had no idea I was seven months pregnant with his child. He thought so little of my grief that he didn't even bother to craft a convincing lie, laughing with his mistress in our home while I sat in the dark with a shattered heart and a secret life growing inside me. "He doesn't deserve us," I whispered to the darkness. I didn't scream or beg. I simply left a folder on his desk containing signed divorce papers and a forged medical report for a terminated pregnancy. I disappeared into the night, letting him believe he had successfully killed his own legacy through his neglect. Five years later, Hilliard walked into "The Vault," the city's most exclusive underground auction, looking for a broker to manage his estate. He didn't recognize me behind my Venetian mask, but he couldn't ignore the neon pink graffiti on his armored Maybach that read "DEADBEAT." He had no clue that the three brilliant triplets currently hacking his security system were the very children he thought had been erased years ago. This time, I wasn't just a wife in the way; I was the one holding all the cards.

My bank account showed exactly $42.18, and my student loan notifications were flashing red. I lived in a sweltering Queens apartment with my Aunt Lydia, where the air was thick with the smell of stale frying oil and the constant threat of being homeless. Lydia handed me a grainy photo of a man twice my age and told me she had already "sold" me to him. He was a dry cleaner looking for a wife, and in exchange for my hand, he would pay off her credit cards and my debt. If I didn't show up for the date that night, my boxes would be on the curb by midnight. I arrived at the cafe in a state of panic, my selective mutism making it impossible to even breathe. In the crowded room, I accidentally sat at the wrong table. Instead of the man from the photo, I found myself facing Gerhard Holcomb—the cold, terrifyingly handsome billionaire whose family owned the very museum where I worked. He didn't send me away; instead, he studied my trembling hands and offered me a different deal: a two-year contract marriage, a two-million-dollar payout, and a strict clause forbidding any children. I signed the papers and moved into his Park Avenue penthouse, thinking I was finally safe. But when I went back to the old apartment to retrieve the only memento of my dead parents, Lydia lashed out, leaving me bleeding from a head wound. Gerhard’s retaliation was absolute—he had her arrested and her building foreclosed on within hours, claiming he was simply "protecting his assets." As I recovered in his silent, glass-walled home, I saw a call from a famous socialite flash on his phone, and a cold truth settled in my gut. I wasn't just a wife; I was a placeholder, a silent shield used to fend off the women from his past. I looked at the massive pink diamond on my finger and realized the silence I had lived in my whole life was about to become my most expensive prison. I had traded a life of poverty for a high-stakes game of shadows, and now I had to survive the man who claimed to own me.

I arrived at the hotel with Julian's favorite takeout, ready to surprise my fiancé before our big merger. But the moment I swiped the keycard, the silence of the hallway felt heavy and wrong. Inside, a red-soled stiletto lay on the marble floor-the same one I'd watched my best friend Lila try on at Saks last week. Through the cracked bedroom door, I watched Julian's back arch as Lila looked me straight in the eye and smiled, wrapping her legs tighter around him to mock my heartbreak. I fled to the penthouse to hide, only to find Grafton, Julian's "crippled" brother, waiting in the dark. To my horror, the man who was supposed to be paralyzed stood up from his wheelchair, gripped my chin with cold fingers, and forced me to sign a contract that gave him control of my family's shares. He knew about my mother's secret medical bills and used them to buy my silence, effectively turning my life into a calculated game of corporate chess. The betrayal tasted like acid, and the injustice of it all burned in my throat. My fiancé was a liar, my best friend was a thief, and the man now controlling my fate was a predator who had been faking his disability for years. I couldn't understand how everyone I trusted had turned out to be a monster. I was trapped between a man who cheated on me and a man who wanted to own me, with no way out and no one to turn to. But when Julian came looking for me, Grafton didn't hide; he stood tall, looming over me with a possessive glint in his eyes. "Help me destroy Julian," I rasped, realizing that to survive the Faulkner men, I had to become the most dangerous player of them all.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
