Chapter 1 PROLOGUE

She held on to the only thing that mattered to her for her dear life, the only thing she cared about. Like a protective mother, keeping her child from harm, away from predators and lurking eyes.

"JUMP."

The voice sounded more fierce, full of anger and hate. She was startled, as she held on to her precious books and hugged them tightly.

"Are you deaf? Jump!"

"But...if I jump, I will die. I don't want to die."

There were still lots of things that she wanted to do, as she thought about the volumes of her favourite novel she was holding tight right now. Who will her favourite character end up with? Who is going to be his mate? She would have taken her life a long time ago, but the only thing keeping her alive was this book that was clutched tightly to her chest.

"The world wouldn't make any difference if you do, you ugly piece of shit. Fucking jump. Who gives a damn if someone like you dies?"

She finally raised her head, and was able to look them eye to eye, but her eyes dropped when she saw him there. The love of her life, the only person she ever thought she could trust, and the same reason she was here in the first place, on the cold and damp rooftop of their school.

"You stinking bitch. I saw you now. I saw you look at my boyfriend." She gnashed her teeth and lunged forward towards her and violently pulled her hair. "You whore. You can't have my boyfriend. You will never have him."

They all grinned, they all laughed and mocked Leila. They all found this scene funny and entertaining, and so did he. Leila was in pains, she was heartbroken. How dare he do this to her? How could he lie that he was in love with her? How naïve and pathetic was she for believing his words? She knew better that the both of them were dating, so why did she trust him?

Leila screamed from the pain she felt as Tasha pulled hard on her hair, dragging her to the edge of the stairs with the malicious plan of pushing her off the edge. Their faces went stiff as they realized Tasha was definitely going to push her off the edge. They realized Tasha was being serious about this.

His face went blank too as he watched his girlfriend drag Leila to the edge. His smile froze, and his body went numb. He didn't mean for this to happen, he didn't think this through.

"Tasha, what do you think you are doing? If you continue to do that she will fall and die." One of her minions said.

"That's the plan. Let her die." Tasha heaved heavily as Leila struggled to get out of her grip. "What are you guys doing there? Help me."

"You have gone insane, we can't help you kill someone. Stop this madness Tasha."

"Madness? You guys are now in on this, the moment we started bullying her for our satisfaction, you have been in on this. I see. You want to make me the bad guy when you guys have done even far worse than I did. Lucy, can you remind me who added snake venom to her drink? Oh.YOU! Or have you forgotten? You didn't know she could have died from that? And you, Tracey, do you remember that time you leaked a fake sex video of her? And it was even recently you did that. Who brought up the idea? Who edited the video and made it look like she was the one? YOUUUUU!"

They all went silent as Tasha recounted all the horrible things they did to her and poor Leila couldn't help but shed tears. Why was this happening to her? Why didn't she end her life that other day? Why was she even born? All these things she thought to herself as she stood there lifeless, with little will left in her to fight to save her life.

"Ewwwww. You got hot and sticky tears on my hand." Tasha finally let go of the struggling Leila and she fell butt hard on the floor.

Suddenly, a loud smack echoed on the roof, the sound of Tasha smacking Leila's face hard.

"Tch. I even had to touch her disgusting face."

"Babe? I think we have tortured her enough. Let her go." Everett; Tasha's boyfriend pleaded.

Tasha stepped away from her as she walked to get the knife and cutlass they planned on "playing with Leila" soon. She picked up the cutlass and like the wind, she cut off her own hand, the one she used in smacking Leila. Everyone went silent as they couldn't believe what they had just witnessed. Her blood gushed and stained the floor and she couldn't give a damn about what she had just done to herself.

She walked to her shaken friends and grinned at them. They were all stunned, speechless even as to what they had just witnessed.

"Tasha..." Everett screamed, "...oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. What the fuck have you done?"

"Stop the bleeding." She commanded, completely ignoring Everett. With shaky hands, one of them tied a clothe around her hand until the bleeding stopped.

"You bitch. Can you see what you've done? You made me cut my own self. That's how much I despise you. I don't want to have you infect me with your ugliness." She spat at her as she stared at her with spite.

Leila was still on the floor, and Tasha's minions feared for their lives as well. No one was safe anymore, Tasha has gone mad.

"Big sis..." Leila called out for Tasha in a low voice but one that was still audible enough to be heard. She raised her eyes to look at her, tears dripping down her face, and catarrh running down her nose. Her face was a mess.

"Big sis? I thought I told you not to call me that?" Tasha lunged forward with a knife in her hand, ready to stab her darling little sister.

"Let's get married," Mia declares, her voice trembling despite her defiant gaze into Stefan's guarded brown eyes. She needs this, even if he seems untouchable. Stefan raises a skeptical brow. "And why would I do that?" His voice was low, like a warning, and it made her shiver even though she tried not to show it. "We both have one thing in common," Mia continues, her gaze unwavering. "Shitty fathers. They want to take what's ours and give it to who they think deserves it." A pointed pause hangs in the air. "The only difference between us is that you're an illegitimate child, and I'm not." Stefan studies her, the heiress in her designer armor, the fire in her eyes that matches the burn of his own rage. "That's your solution? A wedding band as a weapon?" He said ignoring the part where she just referred to him as an illegitimate child. "The only weapon they won't see coming." She steps closer, close enough for him to catch the scent of her perfume, gunpowder and jasmine. "Our fathers stole our birthrights. The sole reason they betrayed us. We join forces, create our own empire that'll bring down theirs." A beat of silence. Then, Stefan's mouth curves into something sharp. "One condition," he murmurs, closing the distance. "No divorces. No surrenders. If we're doing this, it's for life" "Deal" Mia said without missing a beat. Her father wants to destroy her life. She wouldn't give him the pleasure, she would destroy her life as she seems fit. ................ Two shattered heirs. One deadly vow. A marriage built on revenge. Mia Meyers was born to rule her father's empire (so she thought), until he named his bastard son heir instead. Stefan Sterling knows the sting of betrayal too. His father discarded him like trash. Now the rivals' disgraced children have a poisonous proposal: Marry for vengeance. Crush their fathers' legacies. Never speak of divorce. Whoever cracks first loses everything. Can these two rivals, united by their vengeful hearts, pull off a marriage of convenience to reclaim what they believe is rightfully theirs? Or will their fathers' animosity, and their own complicated pasts tear their fragile alliance apart?

I was finally brought back to the billionaire Vance estate after years in the grimy foster system, but the luxury Lincoln felt more like a funeral procession. My biological family didn't welcome me with open arms; they looked at me like a stain on a silk shirt. They thought I was a "defective" mute with cognitive delays, a spare part to be traded away. Within hours of my arrival, my father decided to sell me to Julian Thorne, a bitter, paralyzed heir, just to secure a corporate merger. My sister Tiffany treated me like trash, whispering for me to "go back to the gutter" before pouring red wine over my dress in front of Manhattan's elite. When a drunk cousin tried to lay hands on me at the engagement gala, my grandmother didn't protect me-she raised her silver-topped cane to strike my face for "embarrassing the family." They called me a sacrificial lamb, laughing as they signed the prenuptial agreement that stripped me of my freedom. They had no idea I was E-11, the underground hacker-artist the world was obsessed with, or that I had already breached their private servers. I found the hidden medical records-blood types A, A, and B-a biological impossibility that proved my "parents" were harboring a scandal that could ruin them. Why bring me back just to discard me again? And why was Julian Thorne, the man supposedly bound to a wheelchair, secretly running miles at dawn on his private estate? Standing in the middle of the ballroom, I didn't plead for mercy. I used a text-to-speech app to broadcast a cold, synthetic threat: "I have the records, Richard. Do you want me to explain genetics to the press, or should we leave quietly?" With the "paralyzed" billionaire as my unexpected accomplice, I walked out of the Vance house and into a much more dangerous game.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.
