Never in Linsey's wildest dreams did she imagine the first time she met her husband of three years was in bed. She expected that they would begin to live like a real couple afterward, but Bryson didn't recognize her. He mistook her for a prostitute and hated her to the bone. Linsey thought their paths would never cross again after the divorce. However, it turned out that fate was playing tricks on her. She ended up becoming the legal counsel at Bryson's company. Finally, Bryson recognized her. He fell head over heels in love and couldn't help saying, "Stay with me, Linsey." "What?" Linsey couldn't believe her ears. "Mr. Higgins, weren't you the one who showed no concern about me? Besides, I'm just resigning. Why are you making a big deal out of it?" Bryson was torn between swallowing his pride and losing her forever or confessing his love for her. In the end, it turns out that falling in love comes with great battles. Would he win her back against all odds?

Verdict of the Heart: I'm No Longer Yours Chapter 1 Being Drugged

"We should divorce. The agreement will be sent to you. Please sign it as soon as possible."

Linsey Wheeler was enjoying dinner with a client when she caught sight of the message on her phone, which made her pause momentarily.

Three years earlier, she had married Bryson Higgins, who found their union unsatisfactory. On their wedding day, he had abandoned her to go abroad, making her a subject of ridicule in Ekarora. Now back in the country, he wasted no time in broaching the topic of divorce.

"Ms. Wheeler, don't just sit there. Allow me to propose a toast," the client offered cheerfully.

Yet, Linsey's spirits had waned. She quickly texted back, showing her nod on the divorce, and then stowed her phone.

As the hour grew late, she set aside her fork and bid her farewell. "Mr. Sullivan, I must be going now. I have other matters to attend to."

However, Devin Sullivan, the client, did not want her to leave yet and suggested, "Ms. Wheeler, perhaps you could stay a bit longer? I could drive you home afterward."

Linsey politely refused. "No, thank you. I really need to take care of other matters."

Devin appeared disappointed, but then struck upon an idea. He presented a glass of wine to Linsey. "Then, Ms. Wheeler, please do me the honor of finishing this last glass."

Unable to refuse, Linsey drank the wine. As she was preparing to leave, she suddenly felt an odd sensation. What was happening? Why was she feeling so hot...

Linsey realized something was amiss and clenched her fists, her brow furrowing.

It was then that Devin disclosed his true motives. He offered Linsey a sleazy grin. "Ms. Wheeler, you are both pretty and competent. Spend just one night with me, and your days of hard work will be over. You'll lead a carefree life. How does that sound?"

Linsey shot him a fierce glare. "You've drugged me!" Frustrated, she belatedly realized she had fallen into his trap!

As Devin reached out to her with that sleazy smile, Linsey recoiled in disgust and warned, "Stay away from me!"

Yet, as Linsey continued to resist, Devin did not hesitate. He lunged forward, aiming to kiss her.

"Ah!" Linsey cried out in terror, struggling fiercely. In her frantic state, she grasped a wine bottle from the table and hurled it at Devin.

Devin's howl of pain echoed as she shoved him back and fled the chamber with all her might.

However, the drug was taking its effect, and Linsey felt overwhelmed by a surge of heat throughout her body.

Nearly in despair, she suddenly ran into a man at the corner. Desperately, she clung to the man's arm. "Please help me!"

The man smelled of alcohol and the crisp scent of cedar. Instinctively, Linsey sought comfort in the coolness that radiated from him, hoping to quell the burning sensation within her.

However, it was far from enough for her. She craved more.

In her haze, she heard the man's voice, tense with restraint. "You brought this on yourself."

Suddenly, she felt herself being lifted off the ground and gently placed on a soft bed.

Before Linsey could gather her thoughts, the man, his breath heavy with the scent of alcohol, pressed his lips against hers with a forceful, unbridled kiss that nearly broke through her defenses.

Yet, this was only the beginning. Everything that followed spiraled beyond her control.

On the bed, Linsey found herself beneath the man, her clothes removed with little regard. Her skin burned as his warm hands explored her, igniting an overwhelming arousal.

The room was soon filled with a chorus of gasps and moans, their silhouettes barely discernible in the dim light.

The intense encounter stretched on until it finally ceased.

When Linsey's eyes fluttered open, daylight was streaming through the windows. A sharp, indescribable pain shot through her, a stark reminder that the events of the night were not just fragments of a dream.

She lay there, her mind slowly reconstructing the memories of the night. She had spent the night with a stranger!

Panic set in as she turned to look at the man beside her, only to be struck by astonishment.

To her shock, the man was Bryson, her husband, whom she hadn't seen in three years!

As fate would have it, Bryson had mentioned divorce just yesterday, and now here they were, sharing a bed. Linsey couldn't help but question if this was some twisted jest fate had in store for her.

Noticing he was still asleep, Linsey quickly dressed, intent on leaving quietly. She felt it seemed wisest to leave promptly to prevent any misunderstanding.

However, as she attempted to rise from the bed, her wrist was seized in a firm grip. She turned, only to be met by his intense gaze.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband's Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn't find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn't even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father's legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn's party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara's health and managing every detail of Caden's empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I'd drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause-if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I'd forgotten.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch-a titan of industry and my best friend's father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.
