My Alpha-Back In Time Chapter 1 THE BARGAIN

Martina's POV

"I am Martina Lopez, at 18, I was a force to be reckoned with.A huge force,I was a pain in the neck.

You wanna know me?

Stubborn? Check. Careless? Double check. Wayward? Oh, you better believe it- Triple check.

My parents , trying to be the perfect parents any teenager in Santa Pack would ever ask for used to say I had a mind of my own.

But ,Nah

I preferred to call it independence. Sweet independence.

Rules were meant to be broken, not to be kept or stored in the fridge .

Yeah, you guessed right and nd I made sure to break as many as I could at any given opportunity.

Responsibilities felt like chains, traps, more like a prison and I was determined to break free.

To be as free as a bird .

That night, despite the warnings and threats of been grounded,I was ignited by rebellion and a thirst for adventure,I wasn't a caged bird,I needed to explore ,to have fun.

I found myself in the heart of party, the most awaited party the seniors at school had talked about.

It was a party against my parents' wishes but to me it was just another day in the life of Martina Lopez

But as the night wore on,the smell of beer ,sweat and cigarettes, the tensions began to boil beneath the surface.

A look, a word, a touch-small slights that remained stubbornly and grew until they could no longer be ignored.

It all began with a whispered insult,a mocking laughter in,It was a spark that dug out the glimmer of emotion that had been building all night.

And then, like when a match was thrown into gasoline, the fight erupted.

It started small, nothing really much or worth been watching.

At first a shove here, a punch there, but it quickly escalated into a full-blown brawl, like as if a book had been thrown in a wildfire .

Fists flew from different directions, curses filled the air as the party descended into chaos. Each party challenging someone into a fight.

It was a whirlwind of chaos, nonsense and scattered words.

But as quickly as the fight had begun, it was over.

Suddenly the sound of sirens laced the night, sending warnings about the piercing arrival of the police.

Panic surged through the fear gripped crowd of teenagers like wildfire.

I stumbled out into the night with the others blindly, with no sense of direction.

The echoes of the party fading into the distance

And then, like a fire to gasoline ,without warning the world and everything in it exploded into chaos.

Gunshots rang out immediately, filling and surging through the still night air like a blade.

It was instantly followed by a heart wrenching pain that tore through me like a volcano like I was been operated on while still conscious.

I fell to the ground, the world spinning around me and I at the centre ,confused,in a dizzying blur.

Blood pooled beneath me, staining the pavement crimson as the darkness crawled in.

I was dying slowly with no one to hold my hand,no last goodbyes ,just running feets that didn't give a hoot about me

As the world faded into shadows, confusion and fear lay it's icy finger on me.

I felt myself drifting, floating down into nothingness and out like I was a puppet.

My body became weightless as if I was a kite, floating ,been controlled by the wind, floating above it all.

Colours swirled around me blindly , dragging me into a dizzying whirlpool, and for a moment, I felt like I was being pulled into another realm.

And then, as if from nowhere, a very great light shone,I lifted my hands to protect myself but it was all futile ,there it was ,a portal appeared before me-an unexplained rip in the fabric of reality that defied imagination and explanation.

I stumbled back in shock, my heart pounding with fear and disbelief. It can't be happening,it only happened in movies.

"No," I whispered, my voice barely more than a desperate plea, inaudible that I wondered if I even said anything in the first place.

"This can't be happening."I said in a small voice looking around me wildly.

But the thing that emerged from the darkness , slowly like the devil himself paid no heed to my protests.

His gaze was cold and casting thousand pieces of fear into ne.

When he spoke, his voice sent ripples of echo through me cutting through the air like a sword.

"It is time," he bellowed, his words echoing in the emptiness around us.

I shook my head.

"Who are you?" I asked trying to push out the air of fear out of my lungs."Why I'm I out of my body ? What is going on here ?"

"Easy child." It said in a slow drawling tone,it's towering bony height made me look like a Barbie doll.

It was clad in black clothes that looked like they had once been shreds of fabric sewn quickly together but looked kind of neat.

He held a long croaked bony staff and a hat making him look like Khonsus, the Egyptian god of the moon.

"You are dead." He said suddenly not even giving me the privilege to ask further questions or relay the bad news to me sweetly.

"No,that's can't be." I yelled ,denial rising like bile in my throat looking around me wildly ."No, I refuse to believe it. I refuse to die!" The words coming out in chocked whispers as tears stung my eyes.

"Stephanie......Deon.....Mallory.....Dwane....."

"They can't hear you." He intoned after watching me for some silent minutes.

Then the figure regarded me with a gaze as cold and unyielding as death itself.

"You have defied the natural order," he intoned, his voice echoing , sending vibrations through the mist of emptiness around us.

Fear clawed at my chest, squeezing it,almost making me choke and cough out my insides as I struggled to make sense of his words.

How could this be ?

The heavy iron gates of the Wilderness Correction Camp groaned as they released me after three years of state-sponsored hell. I stood on the dirt road, clutching a plastic bag that held my entire life, waiting for the family that claimed they sent me there for "rehab." My brother, Brady, picked me up in a luxury SUV only to throw me out onto a deserted highway in the middle of a brewing storm. He told me I was a "public relations nightmare" and that the rain might finally wash the "stink" of the camp off me. He drove away, leaving me to limp miles through the mud on a snapped ankle. When I finally dragged myself to our family estate, my mother didn't offer a hug; she gasped in horror because my muddy clothes were ruining her Italian marble. They didn't give me my old room back. Instead, they banished me to a moldy gardener’s shack and hired a "babysitter" to make sure I didn't embarrass them further. My sister, Kaleigh, stood there in white cashmere, pretending to cry while clinging to her fiancé, Ambrose—the man who had once been mine. They all treated me like a volatile junkie, refusing to acknowledge that Kaleigh was the one who planted the drugs in my bag three years ago. They wanted to believe I was broken so they wouldn't have to feel guilty about the "wellness retreat" that was actually a torture chamber. I sat in the dark of that shed, feeling the cooling gel on the cigarette burns that covered my arms, and realized they had made a fatal mistake. They thought they had erased me, but I had returned with a roadmap of scars and a hidden satellite phone. At dinner, I didn't beg for their love. I simply rolled up my sleeves and showed them the price of their silence. As the wine spilled and the lies crumbled, I sent a single text to the only person I trusted: "I'm in. Let them simmer." The hunt was finally on.

I went to the City Clerk’s office for a routine copy of my marriage license to finalize a trust fund audit. I expected a simple piece of paper, but the clerk’s pitying look told me my entire life was a lie. "The license was never finalized, Ms. Oliver. In the eyes of the state, you are single." The three-hundred-guest wedding at the Plaza and the Vogue features meant nothing. My husband, Gray Cooley, had intentionally filed the documents with a "procedural defect" so he could discard me without a legal divorce. Moments later, an iCloud invite titled "Our Little Secret" popped up on my screen. It was a photo of my best friend, Brylee, holding a positive pregnancy test at our Hamptons estate. Gray’s text to her was the final blow: "Happy anniversary, babe. This baby is the best gift. Once the trust unlocks today, we’re done with the charade." I soon discovered they were even stealing my career, reassigning my architectural masterpiece to Brylee while preparing my eviction notice. Gray's mother called me a "barren mule" in a leaked recording, mocking the infertility I suffered after saving Gray’s life in a construction accident. I wasn't a wife; I was a three-year placeholder used to secure his inheritance. How could the man I bled for treat me like a disposable prop? How could my best friend carry his child while pretending to comfort me through my darkest moments? The betrayal burned until it turned into a cold, hard stone of fury. I didn't cry. Instead, I walked into the penthouse of the Barretts, the Cooleys' most powerful rivals. I signed a marriage contract with Kane Barrett, the man the tabloids called the "Beast of Wall Street." "I want a wedding," I told his father, my voice steady and lethal. "Bigger than the one I had with Gray." If they wanted me gone, they would have to watch me become the woman who owns their world.

The sterile white of the operating room blurred, then sharpened, as Skye Sterling felt the cold clawing its way up her body. The heart monitor flatlined, a steady, high-pitched whine announcing her end. Her uterus had been removed, a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding, but the blood wouldn't clot. It just kept flowing, warm and sticky, pooling beneath her. Through heavy eyes, she saw a trembling nurse holding a phone on speaker. "Mr. Kensington," the nurse's voice cracked, "your wife... she's critical." A pause, then a sweet, poisonous giggle. Seraphina Miller. "Liam is in the shower," Seraphina's voice purred. "Stop calling, Skye. It's pathetic. Faking a medical emergency on our anniversary? Even for you, that's low." Then, Liam's bored voice: "If she dies, call the funeral home. I have a meeting in the morning." Click. The line went dead. A second later, so did Skye. The darkness that followed was absolute, suffocating, a black ocean crushing her lungs. She screamed into the void, a silent, agonizing wail of regret for loving a man who saw her as a nuisance, for dying without ever truly living. Until she died, she didn't understand. Why was her life so tragically wasted? Why did her husband, the man she loved, abandon her so cruelly? The injustice of it all burned hotter than the fever in her body. Then, the air rushed back in. Skye gasped, her body convulsing violently on the mattress. Her eyes flew open, wide and terrified, staring blindly into the darkness. Her trembling hand reached for her phone. May 12th. Five years ago. She was back.
