Delight of the Mafia King Chapter 1 1

Kristin's POV

"....I'm not doing this because I like disturbing you, I'm doing it because I want you to be able to protect yourself" my sister's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, she'd been sitting here for the past half an hour trying to convince me

I just look over to her with my brows raised "Protect myself from what Khloe"? I ask lowly

"Don't be naive, you know what's out there, even if you don't wanna be involved in it, it's going to find it's way to you one way or the other" she says adjusting herself.

"Kristin you need to at least learn how to defend yourself, I won't always be there to protect you" she voiced out looking worried.

"I don't need you to protect me Khloe, I'm not the one who's married to the most renowned assassin in the underworld" I mutter the last part out, ever since our parents died Khloe has taken it upon herself to watch over me like a mother hen and while I appreciate that so much, it gets suffocating sometimes.

She breathes out looking at me, I know she cares about me and all but I just want to have a normal life for once, away from all this drama and mafia shit.

"It's just one training Kris, I promise I won't force you again if you don't want to" she pleads putting her hands on mine, I look at her and see the concern dancing in her eyes, I sigh out before answering her

"Fine, just one training and I'm done" I mutter out and I see her face break into a smile before she pulls me in for a hug.

"Thank you so much Kris, come on, let's get going, Dante's probably waiting for us downstairs" she says getting up and I follow her.

Before we both even leave the room, the security alarm in the whole house blares, indicating we're having a break-in of some sort, she quickly looks at me in confusion.

We both gently walk towards the door as she opens it ever so stealthily, I follow behind her as she walks out of the room, the whole corridor is filled with men going up and down with guns in their hands.

She quickly stops one of them "What's the situation Enzo"? She asks him and he looks a little out of breath

"Donna" he bows in respect "there's been a break-in, an intrusion through the gates, we believe it's a rival mafia but we don't know which one yet, The Don is downstairs with the underboss, they're handling it, I'd suggest you go back inside and I'll have a few men stand guard on your door" he rushed out his hand placed on his Glock.

I'll never get used to seeing so many guns in one place at a time, my heart is beating wildly

"You bet I'm gonna stay in here" Khloe mutters "I'll need that security detail placed in front of the door for my sister's sake, I'm going downstairs" she orders the man and he just nods before walking further and barking orders in Italian for the other men running around, she turns towards me before taking out a small knife and handing it to me.

"Take this and stay inside the room, if anyone aside myself or Dante comes in, use it" she orders and I stand frozen looking at her and the knife she has out for me "Take it Kristin" she yells and I snap before taking the knife, strangely it feels lighter than I expected, I look back up at her to see her bringing similar knives out of a holster on her thighs, but they look bigger than the one with me.

"I'll be back in a minute," she says before walking towards the stairs, I just reel myself back inside the room and gently lock the door behind me, I'm scared shitless.

I should be used to things like this by now but I get scared every time it happens, I'm pacing the room, and I hear footsteps outside before I hear the voice.

"Miss Kristin, are you in there"? I hear the voice of the man from earlier my sister spoke to from outside and I quickly open the door to find him there with two other guys who had guns in their hands

"These are the men outside your door for security, we have everything under control, do not leave the room for any reason," he says and I just nod taking in the face of the men situated outside my room before I nod and go back inside locking the door again

I'm unsettled, I know they said they have it under control but it still doesn't make me feel any better knowing the mansion is under attack.

Suddenly I start hearing gunshots from outside and downstairs, I quickly run towards the bed and sit down, I don't even know what to do.

The gunshots might be from the attackers or Dante and his men taking down the attackers, I hear yelling and running from outside, I quickly stand up and move towards the door, I peep through the hole and see that guards are still there making me breathe out in relief.

I just need to calm down, the knife Khloe gave me is still with me, I clutch onto it tightly, I hear heavy footsteps outside, just around my doorstep, and then I hear heavy thuds like body dropping.

My palms are fucking sweaty and the knife suddenly feels too heavy in my hands, I hear my doorknob turning but I know whoever's on the other side can't get in, it's locked.

I hear an unfamiliar voice saying words I can't comprehend, I close my eyes silently praying for them to just go away, I know they're not Dante's men because they're not talking in Italian.

With one swift kick, the door comes tumbling down from its hinges making me squeal and stand in attack mode with the knife tight in my grasp.

I look at the attacker and I find a very tall and well-built man, I can't see his face because it's covered in a mask of some sort, only his eyes are visible to me.

"Stay back" I voice out using my knife as a threatening tool, but it seems the man isn't even fazed at all "I'll use it" I said pointing the knife at him.

He stops and looks at me with amusement dancing in his eyes, he doesn't say anything, just keeps walking towards me steadily, he doesn't seem to be in a rush because he's taking his time.

I'm afraid but I still put on a brave front, never let them see your fear, that's what Khloe always told me when we were kids.

I take the first swing and I miss but I hope that tells him I will use the knife if I have to, he doesn't stop advancing toward me making me step back in fear.

I quickly take another swing and this time he catches my hand and twists it behind my back making sure his firm chest is pressed to my back as he unlatches the knife from my grasp.

He takes the knife and presses it against my neck making me gasp out "You won't get out of here alive, you know that right"? I ask trying to stall, someone should have noticed that I'm being attacked, why isn't anyone coming to save me?

He doesn't say anything just grunts and he starts fumbling with his pocket, I look at the knife pressed closely to my neck and him being completely distracted, this is my time, Take the damn shot, Kristin, you can do it.

I breathe out before quickly Jamming my elbow to his stomach, I hear him grunt and it gives me enough time to get out of his grasp and run for the door, but apparently, he's faster.

Before I'm able to scream for help, he covers my nose with some type of cloth, and stupid as I am, I breathe in the substance, my vision starts getting blurry and my head feels heavy.

He doesn't let go of me, and soon I start seeing black dots and the room starts spinning, I fall to the ground, and the last thing I see is his masked-covered face staring down at me before everything goes black.

_________________________

In case you're wondering who I am, well my name is Kristin Romano, I'm 23 years old.

Born into a family of crime and the underworld, you can say I'm quite weak, I've never really liked this life, not since my sister was snatched from me at a very young age by my father because he wanted one of his daughters to be more involved in this life and Khloe fit the perfect description.

I only saw her once every year for 15 minutes and I was never allowed to talk to her or even let her see me.

We reunited after our parents died, of course as you can guess someone ordered a hit on their heads and they both were killed making it look like an accident.

My sister Khloe is the best female assassin out here in the underworld and she's married to the Don of the Italian mafia who also happens to be the best male assassin in the underworld, well basically in the Italian mafia.

There have been rumors of a leader in the Russian mafia, a nameless fear, someone who many think is better than Dante in terms of ruling and ruthlessness, the best assassin known to the Russians.

In case you're wondering, Khloe and I are twins.

She has been the one looking out for me since we were young and when our parents died, she offered me a place to stay in her husband's mansion.

I've been here with them for about two years now, I'm not a fan of the mafia but I have no choice since I was born into it.

My father worked with a line of trained assassins, he was a trained assassin as well and so was my mom, so when the time came to pass down his legacy, he chose Khloe which I'm grateful for, he didn't have any male children but he loved us greatly.

My name is Kristin and this is how my story starts.

I was once the princess of the Upper East Side, but now I’m just "debt wrapped in pretty skin." To keep my father alive in a federal penitentiary, I signed a contract I didn't fully understand. I thought it was about restoring my family's name, but producer Barnett Orr treated it like a bill of sale for my soul. Inside his limousine, the air smelled like gasoline and fear. Barnett didn't want a star; he wanted a victim. He bruised my jaw and ripped my vintage silk gown to shreds, laughing because he knew I couldn't fight back without signing my father's death warrant. "Don't forget who owns you, Felicity," he whispered. When he dragged me into Dewitt Knight’s penthouse party, I was a walking disaster. I huddled in Barnett’s oversized jacket, my lip bleeding and my spirit shattered. The elite crowd didn't see a victim; they saw a fallen girl selling herself for a role. A former rival poured red wine over me, and the room erupted in cruel laughter while Barnett told everyone he was just "testing my commitment." I looked up at the balcony, locking eyes with Dewitt Knight. He was a god in a bespoke suit, looking down at me with cold, lethal disgust. He didn't see the bruises or the desperation. He only saw a transaction he found beneath him. "So the rumors are true," he said, his voice cutting through the music. "The Aguilars really will do anything for money now. Even this." I was trapped between a monster who wanted to break me and a man who thought I was trash. No one cared that my father's life depended on my silence. When Barnett cornered me in a guest room later that night, his belt jingling like a death knell, I realized no one was coming to save a girl like me. I fought back with a crystal vase, shattering it against his shoulder, but I was drowning in my own terror. Just as Barnett lunged for my throat, the door was kicked off its hinges. Dewitt stood there, finally seeing the blood on the carpet and the map of purple bruises on my bare back. He chased the monster away, but I didn't feel safe. I locked the guest room door, wedged a chair under the handle, and slept with a silver letter opener pressed against my skin. When I crept into the kitchen at midnight and found him waiting in the shadows, I aimed the blade at his heart. "In this house, no one hurts you," he promised, his voice a low velvet rumble. But in a world where I had already been sold once, I knew that even protection came with a price I couldn't afford to pay.

I was four months pregnant, weighing over two hundred pounds, and my heart was failing from experimental treatments forced on me as a child. My doctor looked at me with clinical detachment and told me I was in a death sentence: if I kept the baby, I would die, and if I tried to remove it, I would die. Desperate for a lifeline, I called my father, Francis Acosta, to tell him I was sick and pregnant. I expected a father's love, but all I got was a cold, sharp blade of a voice. "Then do it quietly," he said. "Don't embarrass Candi. Her debutante ball is coming up." He didn't just reject me; he erased me. My trust fund was frozen, and I was told I was no longer an Acosta. My fiancé, Auston, had already discarded me, calling me a "bloated whale" while he looked for a thinner, wealthier replacement. I left New York on a Greyhound bus, weeping into a bag of chips, a broken woman the world considered a mistake. I couldn't understand how my own father could tell me to die "quietly" just to save face for a party. I didn't know why I had been a lab rat for my family’s pharmaceutical ambitions, or how they could sleep at night while I was left to rot in the gray drizzle of the city. Five years later, the doors of JFK International Airport slid open. I stepped onto the marble floor in red-soled stilettos, my body lean, lethal, and carved from years of blood and sweat. I wasn't the "whale" anymore; I was a ghost coming back to haunt them. With my daughter by my side and a medical reputation that terrified the global elite, I was ready to dismantle the Acosta empire piece by piece. "Tell Francis to wash his neck," I whispered to the skyline. "I'm home."

I lay paralyzed on stiff white sheets, a prisoner in my own skin, listening to the rain lash against the window like nails on a coffin. My father, Elmore Franco, didn't even look at my face as he checked his clipboard. He just listened to the steady, monotonous beep of the heart monitor-the only thing proving I was still alive. Without a hint of remorse, he pulled a pen from his pocket and signed the Do Not Resuscitate order. My stepmother, Ophelia, stepped out from behind him, wearing my favorite pearl necklace and smelling of cloying perfume. She leaned close to my ear to whisper the truth that turned my blood to ice. "It was the tea, darling. Just like your mother. A slow, tasteless poison." She chuckled as she revealed that my fiancé, Bryce, had a two-year-old son with my sister, Daniela. My inheritance had been funding their secret life for years, and now that the money was secure, I was an inconvenience they were finally scrubbing away. As my father yanked the power cord from the wall, the beeping died, and the darkness swallowed me whole. I was being murdered by my own flesh and blood, used as a bank account until I was no longer needed. I died in that sterile room, drowning in the realization that every person I ever loved was a monster who had been waiting for me to take my last breath. Then, I gasped. I woke up in a luxury hotel suite surrounded by silk sheets, five years in the past-the very morning of my wedding. Next to me lay Basile Delgado, the "Wolf of Wall Street" and my family's most dangerous enemy. In my first life, I ran from this room in a panic and lost everything. This time, I looked at the man who would eventually destroy my father's empire and decided to join him. "I'm not leaving, Basile. Marry me. Right now. Today."

My five-year-old daughter was dying in the ICU, her heartbeat replaced by the continuous, electronic scream of a flatline. I gripped her cold hand, my throat sealed shut by a terror so absolute I couldn't even cry out. I dialed my husband Grayson's private number, the one reserved only for me and his assistants. He declined the call instantly. A second later, a text buzzed against my palm: "In a meeting. Do not disturb. Stop calling." Five miles away, Grayson was at a luxury gala, adjusting his silk tie and laughing with Belle Escobar. He told her I was just being "dramatic" and using our daughter's "fever" as an excuse to avoid the event. He had no idea Effie's heart had already stopped. When I finally reached our penthouse, soaked from the rain and carrying Effie's small socks in a plastic bag, Grayson didn't even look at me. He snapped at me for ruining the hardwood floors and asked if I'd left Effie with the nanny just to "feel sorry for myself." Three days later, while I buried our daughter in a small, lonely ceremony, Grayson was at the Hamptons. Belle posted a photo of him golfing with the caption: "A mental health day with the boys." He didn't even attend the funeral, but he returned home demanding I clear out Effie's room to make a study for Belle's son. The injustice burned through me until there was nothing left. I swallowed a handful of sleeping pills, desperate to join my daughter. But instead of the darkness, I woke up to blinding lights and the scent of Grayson's expensive cologne. I was standing in a ballroom, wearing a blue silk dress I had already burned. Above me, a banner read: "Happy 5th Birthday Kaiden & Effie." I was back, exactly one year before the tragedy. This time, I wasn't going to be the grieving wife. I was going to be their worst nightmare.
