Chapter 1 Betrayed

Chapter 1:

Cindy's POV

My eyes went up to the sky, and as the moon shone down on me, I couldn't stop smiling at myself.

This was it. The night I could finally be more than just an ordinary Omega in my pack

In our world, omegas were nobodies. We were nothing but slaves and helpers with no future.

No one even thought we could be assigned mates by the moon goddess. We were cursed to live the rest of our lives mate less and ridiculed until we grew old and died.

My parents had been lucky enough to find each other. Both omegas fell in love and had me, but my life was slowly tearing apart until Adams came.

A knock on my door pulled me out of my trance, and I turned away from the window to stare at the small wooden door in my house.

"Cindy, Adams is here to see you!" My mother called from the other side.

My cheeks heated up, and I quickly sat up on the bed. I let my long red hair flow to the side of my neck to show him how beautiful I am. And how lucky I think he is to have me.

"I am up!" I called back, my voice filled with emotions.

Adams and I have been seeing each other. It was a miracle that the son of a beta could be mated to an omega like me, but it had happened.

I gave him my body the previous night, and he had left a love bite on my neck, promising to return tonight to present me to his family.

My heart sizzled with butterflies as warmth spread from my core, where we were so beautifully joined. I could still feel him moving in and out of me.

My wolf purred, both of us reliving the moment.

I was finally going to be promoted in the pack. Other wolves wouldn't just look at me and think of me as a lowly omega anymore. My mate was going to be the beta soon, which automatically raised my rank as well.

My wolf growled, excited at the thought, and even better, tonight after he had claimed us officially, we were going to make love under the moonlight.

A soft tap on the door pulled me out of my thoughts for the second time, and I jumped out of bed to open it.

As soon as the door flew open, the sweet scent of sandalwood and pine filled my nostrils, and my wolf melted as the mate bond burned around us.

"Hey," I whispered as my eyes fell into his hazel orbs.

"Cindy," he whispered in that soft voice that always swept me off my feet.

His fingers reached my cheeks, and he caressed the skin softly.

"You look beautiful," he said, and my cheeks burned again.

The same desire I had felt the night before when he took me washed over me, and my toes curled.

I stepped away from the door and beckoned him to come in, but he shook his head slightly.

My brows pulled together as I returned to him. For the first time, I noticed the uneasiness in his eyes.

"Adams, what's wrong?" I asked him. My hands were already going to his face, but he held them and squeezed them gently.

"I don't want to do it here. Let's go somewhere else." He said.

My wolf made a flip in my head at his words. He wanted us to go to the forest already.

My core tightened, and I felt my nipples stand erect under the thin dress I was wearing.

"Sure. I'll just change then," I stuttered.

I went to my wardrobe and picked a huge jacket to drape over my bare shoulders. Then I joined him at the door once again.

He held my hand and led me down to the living area, where my mother sat knitting a sweater.

"Mum, we are going out. I'll be back soon!" I said, and she smiled, waving at us.

"Take care of her, Adams." She replied with a smile on her face.

Adams gave her a tight-lipped smile, and he pulled me along with him.

The night was filled with growls and howls from different pups who were also claiming their mates. Most were at the pack's square, while others had decided to have a private moment like us.

"Where are we going?" I asked as we walked further into the forest.

"It's a quiet spot just beyond the trees," he said.

I felt the sweat in his hands, and I swallowed the giggle that threatened to escape my lips. He was scared, just like I was.

Claiming a mate wasn't like having sex; it was so much deeper, and sex after that meant we would never be apart.

My wolf rolled in excitement as we got to the clearing.

Adams faced me, and I couldn't look into his eyes as my cheeks heated up in anticipation.

"Cindy, I am sorry about what I am about to do."

My wolf stopped rolling, and we snapped our eyes to his.

"What are you talking about?" I stuttered.

He dropped my hands and looked straight into my eyes with a look I have seen other higher-ranked wolves look at me with.

My heart was already trembling, but I held on to it.

"I have tried to make this work, Cindy, but it can't. You are an omega. You are weak. You are useless. I can't be with someone like you or mark you on this important celebration!"

Tears splattered down my cheeks, and my heart was about to explode.

"No. No. You don't-don't mean that." I whimpered, fighting back my sobs.

I moved closer to him and tried to hold him but he pushed me away.

"There is nothing we can do, Cindy. We can't keep forcing this-I can't keep pretending that this is fine! You are way below my rank, and that cannot work!" He yelled.

I couldn't imagine where he got these horrible words from. Adams was never like this. The man I had given my body to wasn't like this.

"Adams, please, we can Talk about this!" I cried desperately, trying to hold on to him, but he roughly pushed me aside.

"There is nothing to talk about, Cindy! I am rejecting you!" He yelled, and I felt my heart shatter.

"I, Adams, son of the beta, Lewis Thompson reject you, Cindy Norman, an ordinary Omega!"

Nicole had entered marriage with Walter, a man who never returned her feelings, bound to him through an arrangement made by their families rather than by choice. Even so, she had held onto the quiet belief that time might soften his heart and that one day he would learn to love her. However, that day never came. Instead, he treated her with constant contempt, tearing her down with cruel words and dismissing her as fat and manipulative whenever it suited him. After two years of a cold and distant marriage, Walter demanded a divorce, delivering his decision in the most degrading manner he could manage. Stripped of her dignity and exhausted by the humiliation, Nicole agreed to her friend Brenda's plan to make him see what he had lost. The idea was simple but daring. She would use another man to prove that the woman Walter had mocked and insulted could still be desired by someone else. All they had to do was hire a gigolo. Patrick had endured one romantic disappointment after another. Every woman he had been involved with had been drawn not to him, but to his wealth. As one of the heirs to a powerful and influential family, he had long accepted that this pattern was almost unavoidable. What Patrick wanted was far more difficult to find. He longed to fall in love with a woman who cared for him as a person, not for the name he carried or the fortune attached to it. One night, while he was at a bar, an attractive stranger approached him. Because of his appearance and composed demeanor, she mistook him for a gigolo. She made an unconventional proposal, one that immediately caught his interest and proved impossible for him to refuse.

Today is October 14th, my birthday. I returned to New York after months away, dragging my suitcase through the biting wind, but the VIP pickup zone where my husband’s Maybach usually idled was empty. When I finally let myself into our Upper East Side penthouse, I didn’t find a cake or a "welcome home" banner. Instead, I found my husband, Caden, kneeling on the floor, helping our five-year-old daughter wrap a massive gift for my half-sister, Adalynn. Caden didn’t even look up when I walked in; he was too busy laughing with the girl who had already stolen my father’s legacy and was now moving in on my family. "Auntie Addie is a million times better than Mommy," my daughter Elara chirped, clutching a plush toy Caden had once forbidden me from buying for her. "Mommy is mean," she whispered loudly, while Caden just smirked, calling me a "drill sergeant" before whisking her off to Adalynn’s party without a second glance. Later that night, I saw a video Adalynn posted online where my husband and child laughed while mocking my "sensitive" nature, treating me like an inconvenient ghost in my own home. I had spent five years researching nutrition for Elara’s health and managing every detail of Caden’s empire, only to be discarded the moment I wasn't in the room. How could the man who set his safe combination to my birthday completely forget I even existed? The realization didn't break me; it turned me into ice. I didn't scream or beg for an explanation. I simply walked into the study, pulled out the divorce papers I’d drafted months ago, and took a black marker to the terms. I crossed out the alimony, the mansion, and even the custody clause—if they wanted a life without me, I would give them exactly what they asked for. I left my four-carat diamond ring on the console table and walked out into the rain with nothing but a heavily encrypted hard drive. The submissive Mrs. Holloway was gone, and "Ghost," the most lethal architect in the tech world, was finally back online to take back everything they thought I’d forgotten.

I was once the heiress to the Solomon empire, but after it crumbled, I became the "charity case" ward of the wealthy Hyde family. For years, I lived in their shadows, clinging to the promise that Anson Hyde would always be my protector. That promise shattered when Anson walked into the ballroom with Claudine Chapman on his arm. Claudine was the girl who had spent years making my life a living hell, and now Anson was announcing their engagement to the world. The humiliation was instant. Guests sneered at my cheap dress, and a waiter intentionally sloshed champagne over me, knowing I was a nobody. Anson didn't even look my way; he was too busy whispering possessively to his new fiancée. I was a ghost in my own home, watching my protector celebrate with my tormentor. The betrayal burned. I realized I wasn't a ward; I was a pawn Anson had kept on a shelf until he found a better trade. I had no money, no allies, and a legal trust fund that Anson controlled with a flick of his wrist. Fleeing to the library, I stumbled into Dallas Koch—a titan of industry and my best friend’s father. He was a wall of cold, absolute power that even the Hydes feared. "Marry me," I blurted out, desperate to find a shield Anson couldn't climb. Dallas didn't laugh. He pulled out a marriage agreement and a heavy fountain pen. "Sign," he commanded, his voice a low rumble. "But if you walk out that door with me, you never go back." I signed my name, trading my life for the only man dangerous enough to keep me safe.

Rain hammered against the asphalt as my sedan spun violently into the guardrail on the I-95. Blood trickled down my temple, stinging my eyes, while the rhythmic slap of the windshield wipers mocked my panic. Trembling, I dialed my husband, Clive. His executive assistant answered instead, his voice professional and utterly cold. "Mr. Wilson says to stop the theatrics. He said, and I quote, 'Hang up. Tell her I don’t have time for her emotional blackmail tonight.'" The line went dead while I was still trapped in the wreckage. At the hospital, I watched the news footage of Clive wrapping his jacket around his "fragile" ex-girlfriend, Angelena, shielding her from the storm I was currently bleeding in. When I returned to our penthouse, I found a prenatal ultrasound in his suit pocket, dated the day he claimed to be on a business trip. Instead of an apology, Clive met me with a sneer. He told me I was nothing but an "expensive decoration" his father bought to make him look stable. He froze my bank accounts and cut off my cards, waiting for the hunger to drive me back to his feet. I stared at the man I had loved for four years, realizing he didn't just want a wife; he wanted a prop he could switch off. He thought he could starve me into submission while he played father to another woman's child. But Clive forgot one thing. Before I was his trophy wife, I was Starfall—the legendary voice actress who vanished at the height of her fame. "I'm not jealous, Clive. I'm done." I grabbed my old microphone and walked out. I’m not just leaving him; I’m taking the lead role in the biggest saga in Hollywood—the one Angelena is desperate for. This time, the "decoration" is going to burn his world down.
