Chapter 1 The Fight

In the Coker Mansion, Mr and Mrs Coker are celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary.

"Happy wedding anniversary." Harold said, smiling as he stretched forth his hands to give them a gift.

They unwrapped the gift and saw a paper and in it was written 'let's go outside.' They went outside and saw a brand new Rolls Royce. Mrs Emily Coker wore a smile of gratitude.

"We are proud to call you our son." Mr Dave spoke with his hand on Harold's shoulder.

'Where is Donald? He said he would be here with the gift.' Clarissa said inwardly.

Candy, who noticed her uneasiness, teased her. "Are you wondering where your loser husband is? He probably doesn't have a penny to give dad and mum for their anniversary so he is hiding... such a loser!" Candy mocked with a smirk.

"Stop it! I will not just stand and watch you insult my husband. Something must have stopped him from coming." Clarissa said firmly, not mincing words.

"Oh goodness, when would you stop covering up for that pauper? He has been a failure since the day we knew him so give it up. He is not coming and by the..." Candy was saying before Donald arrived.

"I'm here." Donald said, his heart racing and his eyes looking strained. He walked to his father and mother in law and presented his gift. Harold glared at him in disdain.

"What is this?" Mrs Emily spoke disgustedly as she opened the pack only to find an old rusty golden wristwatch. Out of anger, she threw it at his face. "You did not only come late for the party but you are also a fool. How could you bring a rag as a gift to your parents? Do you think we are as worthless as you are? How despicable!" Mrs Emily eyed him in disgust.

"But..." Donald tried to speak but Mr Dave shunned him.

"Don't even say anything. I wonder what my daughter found in a mere cleaner like you who cannot even afford to feed himself just depending on his in-laws for his survival. You are worthless and a failure. Impoverished thing." Mr Dave uttered and stormed out of the living room in anger.

Mrs Emily stepped on the old rusty golden wristwatch and smashed it as she rolled her eyes. "Shameless thing!" She exited the room also.

Donald just stood there not knowing what to say or do. There came Harold's laugh of mockery.

"The destitute can never change despite getting married to a wealthy family, he would always be a loser. He must definitely be a gold digger too, that was why he married my innocent sister just to steal some money. Poor, wretched lowlife." Harold scoffed with the expression of hatred written on his face.

"Will you stop that already? Donald is my husband and I will not let you people taunt him this way." Clarissa defended him.

"Oh, so you are in full support of the trash, this rag presented to Dad and mum as their anniversary gift. Clarissa, your good for nothing husband gave our parents an old rusty golden wristwatch, can you imagine the high rate of disregard?" Harold said sizing Donald from his head to his toe with his condemning eyes.

"Donald, don't listen to him, let's go." Clarissa said, nudging him towards their room. Donald followed her.

"Yeah! Follow your wife and let her lead you to the woods where you truly belong. ORPHAN!"

Donald stopped and Clarissa looked towards him wondering what made him pause. Donald clenched his fist as he approached Harold landing him a heavy punch on his belly. Harold reacted back and it led to a fight.

Candy and Clarissa tried to separate them but Donald refused to stop. If it meant him killing Harold, he would gladly do so. Since the day he stepped his foot into that family, Harold has never for once been nice to him.

Candy ran off to call the guards to stop them. Luckily, the guards got there before Donald had immersed Harold into halves. They dragged Donald away but Harold had been severely injured.

"Harold, are you alright?" Candy went over to him, placing her hands under his head. Harold eventually passed out. "Harold! Call the ambulance!"

"He got what he deserves." Donald said as he dashed out of the house.

"Donald..."Clarissa called out running to meet him before she stopped.

"If anything happens to Harold, I would never take it easy with Donald. I will make sure he dies by my hand." Candy said as tears streamed down her eyelids.

The ambulance finally got there and Harold was rushed to the hospital. Mr and Mrs Coker heard about what happened and they drove to the hospital.

"Doctor, is my son going to be fine?" Mrs Emily asked and it was apparent in her shaky voice that she had been crying.

"Right now, he needs rest and we would give him a good massage. Also, we would give him a pain reliever." Doctor Maxwell stated.

"Clarissa, can you see what your husband is doing? That thing you call your husband has been a pain in the neck since he stepped into our family." Mr Dave said as he shook his head.

"Donald leaves my house today. First, he gives us a cheap and poor gift and now he wants to murder our son. I cannot take this anymore. I have been very patient but it seems that your husband doesn't value the fact that he is lucky to be a part of the Coker family. Today is the day I get rid of him for good." Mrs Emily said.

"Mum, please don't do that to Donald. Moreover, it was Harold who taunted him." Clarissa said pleadingly.

***********

Donald sat on the sidewalk bench along the road still angry at Harold's statement. He wouldn't have resorted to that if Harold had minded his business.

He was regretting his actions but in a way, Harold got what he deserves. He rummaged in his pocket before he brought out his button phone and phoned Clarissa.

"Hello, has Harold gotten better?" Donald asked with optimism.

"I'm not sure but the doctor said he would get better eventually." Clarissa said in a sad tone.

Donald, who felt the sadness in her voice said, "I am sorry for the way I reacted. I guess I flared up and I couldn't control myself."

"It's fine. I understand." Clarissa said.

"Thank you for your understanding. I hope Harold gets better very soon." Donald said before finally cutting the call.
