Chapter 1 Betrayed

"Hey Kennedy," I observed my sister, Alex, hurrying over to my mate, Alex placing her hands on his shoulders, and he reciprocated by wrapping his arms around her waist.
I stared at both as they chatted and laughed, totally ignoring my presence.
"You're touching my mate," I said to Alex, making an effort to mask my irritation.
"Relax, I'm not trying to steal him from you," she replied. As I turned to look at Kennedy, I noticed him giving me a glare.
"Why do you always make me feel embarrassed when we're out? Do you actually not trust me?" he questioned with a tone that was both cold and indifferent, leaving me momentarily taken aback.
Why was he getting so upset about such a minor issue?
"Kennedy, we can resolve this at home. Let's just go back." I smiled at him, attempting to mask the hurt in my eyes.
As I held his hands, he abruptly pulled away.
"I'm so fed up with you! Always playing the victim!" he shouted, drawing others' attention.
A wave of embarrassment hit me as I stared at Kennedy in shock; everything was going smoothly until Alex arrived and spoiled our perfect moment.
Oh, of course! Alex was standing behind Kennedy with a smirk, and I couldn't shake the feeling that she was relishing my embarrassment. But no, Kennedy wouldn't do that. Maybe he's just having a rough day.
"Kennedy," I called, my voice expressing various emotions, but the look he gave me was not what I had hoped for. It was filled with anger and frustration.
"I can't believe I have to stay by your side for the rest of my life. The Moon goodness really excels at punishing people, doesn't she?" he asked, and instantly, his words registered in my mind.
"He was just kidding, right? Kennedy doesn't actually regret having someone like me as a partner?"
I fought back tears that threatened to come out, telling myself, "Perhaps he's just having a tough day; he'll apologize soon enough," as I nodded in response.
I was just about to approach Kennedy when Alex suddenly collapsed to the ground.
"What was she up to this time?"
She quickly got back up, turning to face me.
I'm sorry, Wrenna, for starting a fight between you two. I just wanted to be friends with Kennedy since I didn't have any friends," she sobbed, though it was clear her tears were insincere.
Yet no one wanted to acknowledge that reality and instead labeled me as the villain. "Why is she doing this to me? She's determined to make my life a nightmare!
I saw Kennedy hurry over to her, worry evident in his expression, and my heart immediately started to race. "I really don't want to think about it," I sighed.
As Kennedy comforted Alex, I noticed some people shooting me hostile glances. "Can't they realize she's trying to flirt with my mate?"
"Even her mate can't tolerate her."
"It's clear her mate is going to abandon her for her sister."
The pack whispered in sarcastic tones, and my worst fear finally came true.
Kennedy picked up Alex in a bridal carry and walked away, not glancing back at me.
My heart sank, but I tried to reassure myself that he had his reasons for everything. I realized it was irrational, but I couldn't bear the thought of losing Kennedy.
"Since your partner is clearly leaving you, why can't we be together again, Wrenna?" I heard a voice say, and I turned to see a heavy-set man leering at me.
"Do I know you?" I asked, completely puzzled about his identity.
He moved closer, reaching out to touch my bare skin, but I quickly shoved him away while the onlookers stood by, anticipating something to unfold.
"Why are you shying away from my touch? You liked it when I touched you yesterday," he said with a smug grin, as the whispers surrounding us grew louder.
"Is this old hag trying to mess with me?" I wondered, noticing the looks of disdain from those around me.
"I've always suspected she wasn't right. That disgusting slut. Alex should be with Kennedy; she's better for him," one person murmured, and then it hit me-I was being labeled a slut for being with this unattractive old man!
I attempted to speak up, but my voice felt paralyzed for a moment as others gathered around, staring down at me. The old man merely smirked before leaving. I felt bewildered while my life and reputation were being tarnished by a complete stranger.
Hastily leaving the group, I trudged home feeling disheartened. "How quickly do rumors circulate," I sighed with disappointment, noticing the glares directed at me.
"Where's Alex?" I asked my mother as soon as I entered, but the smile on her face, as she observed my anxious expression, made me realize she was aware of the situation.
"She's in the right place," she replied, but I couldn't grasp the meaning behind her words.
"Why have you always been so selfish since we were kids, Wrenna? Just let Alex have what she's always desired and step aside," she said through clenched teeth before walking off. I attempted to call Kennedy, but my call wouldn't connect.
"You don't belong here, you whore!" yelled May, Kennedy's sister, as I attempted to enter an upscale apartment.
Kennedy was the CEO of an entertainment company in Naics Pack in the northern part of America, but being his mate had cost him many chances. I was seen as a source of misfortune by everyone.
"I didn't do it, I promise," I said to May, my eyes filled with anguish.
"Come on! Everyone knows you're just after my brother for his money," she scoffed before turning to leave.
As I entered, the unusual noises from Kennedy's room greeted me.
"Was he back already?" I considered moving closer to the door. My heart raced and sweat formed on my brow; I sensed that something terrible was about to happen.
The sounds of unpleasant noise disturbed me and I just found myself holding unto the knob tight but opening the door, my world stopped on seeing what was right in front of me.
